Walks in England: Exploring Stanmer Park in Brighton
Today the lovely Julia and I are exploring the parkland of a delightful manor just north of Brighton, Stanmer Park. We are there to look at the house, the church and the donkey wheel, not to mention the ancient yew tree in the church yard.
The village of Stanmer, Stanmer House and Stanmer Church would once have been the estate of the house. All were private until bought by Brighton's Council in 1947. It is a Local Nature Reserve.

The Park - Queen's Park Brighton
Continuing our mini series looking at parks and how they fit into society, Julia and I take a look at Queen's Park in Brighton.
Queen's Park is a public park in Brighton, England. In 1825, Thomas Attree, a property owner and developer in Brighton, acquired land north of Eastern Road—already known as Brighton Park—to build a residential park surrounded by detached villas, inspired by Regent's Park in London.

Wild Living - Camping in Stanmer Park, Brighton
I met one of the volunteer rangers of the forest surrounding Stanmer Park and had a conversation about the land and people camping there. It was sad to hear how people have been disrespecting the land, there is a lot of rubbish around which I have been making an effort to clear a bit of every day. It was clearly expressed to me that camping was not allowed in the park, however the ranger was willing to turn a blind eye for a couple days after I spoke of my desire to clean up some of the mess throughout the forest and also once they saw that I didn't appear to have any mental problems that would cause me to be a nuisance or danger to others enjoying the land.
So glad to be sharing with you! The amazing journey continues!

Mr Bean Episode 1 Filming Locations at Stanmer Park
In February 2016 following a weekend in Brighton, I paid visit to the area of Stanmer Park, a few miles outside of Brighton city. This small estate was previously owned by the Earl of Chichester, and was used in 1989/90 for the filming of the very first episode of the hit British sitcom Mr. Bean. In the first half of the very first episode, Mr. Bean completes an exam before then attending church. Stanmer House, a Grade I listed mansion dating from 1722 is featured in the initial few minutes of the episode, as the hall in which Mr. Bean completes an exam. Following on from this, Mr. Bean goes to church, standing next to a perturbed older man (played by Richard Briers). The church featured in the episode which Mr. Bean parks outside is the anglican Stanmer Church, a mere short walk away from Stanmer House, which you will see in this video. Stanmer Church became redundant to regular public worship in 2008, but is opened every Sunday to visit by a local Preservation society.
Filmed on my iPhone 6 on 15th February 2016.
