Stanthorpe was known as Quart Pot Creek about 150 years ago. There was also a private tin-mining town nearby called Stannum.
When it was time to amalgamate the two communites, they called it Stanthorpe.

no steam train today due to the fire risk but the 1960's diesel engine filled in. it was period dress day. the town crier, Bob Townsend, is welcoming the train as usual.
Heritage diesel to Stanthorpe
For the Stanthorpe Apple 'n Grape festival weekend, SDSR ran a steam train on Saturday 5 March to Stanthorpe and Wallangarra, and a heritage diesel train to Stanthorpe on Sunday 6 March.
Diesel hydraulic 45 is privately owned and was turned out extremely well. Three trailing Kuranda class cars were well within its capabilities.
