Mother and daughter Wendy and Natasha Killeen are sixth- and seventh-generation vignerons shaking things up in historic Rutherglen, with their vineyard full of exciting alternative varieties. Wendy and Natasha took the reins of the Stanton & Killeen winery in 2011 and every day is a balancing act, growing and evolving while honouring the past.

Wine Week 192: Around Rutherglen (and beyond).
Last week Danny was up around Rutherglen. While the region is definitely best known for its stunning fortifieds and bold durifs, Danny brought back a couple of wines that break the mould. The first is a rosé from Scion that's bone dry despite being made from a grape more normally associated with sweet whites. Then there is the Stanton & Killeen Prince Reserva, a wine made for the table with grapes normally associated with Portuguese fortified wines. In between Brad takes us over to the over side of Australia with a great value Shiraz from Xabregas in the Great Southern region of WA.
A Long Weekend in Rutherglen Part 2
Saturday 21st September
After visiting Pfeiffer Winery we had lunch at Poachers Paradise, then visited the Tourist Information office, which has tastings of Rutherglen's famous port and muscat.
Sunday 21st September
We went to church, followed by a lovely morning tea, and were invited to their monthly film night, which was to be held in Corowa. Two of the Rutherglen members offered to drive us there and back.
After church we explored the old town, especially the Rutherglen Hotel, where we were given an unexpected guided tour of the stables and the morgue.
After a scenic walk around Lake King in Rutherglen Park we went to Parker's Pies for lunch.
In the afternoon we walked to two of Rutherglen's great wineries, first Campbells and then Stanton and Killeen.

A bit more than three and a half years ago we featured a Jim Barry Watervale Riesling on the very first episode of WineWeek. 180 episodes in we look at the newest vintage of the very wine, and it's still a ripper! We also check out one of, if not the, best Pinot Noir's from the Mornington Penninsula. The 2008 Yabby Lake is a brilliant drop, and worth every cent! With it bitterly cold in the southern parts of Australia right now we finish up with a Rutherglen Muscat that is the perfect winter warmer from Stanton & Killeen.
