A duo of street musicians played a merry tune in central Simferopol, Wednesday as life the Crimean capital appeared to have returned to business as usual.
Pedestrians clapped and tapped their feet to the music, with the musicians sitting a few hundreds metres away from the Supreme Council building, where clashes between pro-Russian and pro-Ukrainian demonstrators erupted last week.

How Crimeans are reacting to move toward Moscow
After Sunday's referendum, Crimea's parliament dispatched a delegation to Moscow to work out details of joining Russia, reflecting the jubilation of that region's ethnic Russian majority. But not everyone in Crimea is happy about the results. Chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Warner talks with Judy Woodruff from Simferopol about the reactions on the ground.
Putin intervened when he sensed plans were being made for Crimea.!
My opinion is that some people have been meddling in Crimea. They think they have been very clever. They wanted to use Crimea against Russia. And Russia stopped them. My opinion is it stopped the issue in one move.
Such matter must be resolved with love. You cannot resolve them with cunning and wolfish behavior. You cannot resolve them with traps and trickery. Only with love. You must love Crimea as much as you love Russia. Both are the servants of Allah. If you do not respect someone, he will not respect you. If you hate him, he will hate you. That is no good. Putin is normally a very active and positive person. If you love the Russian people and nation and state and watch out for them, all of Russia will be at your command. Under such circumstances you can do what you will. Isn't that right? Putin is an upstanding man. Must if you try to get results through lovelessness and selfishness, the other side will smother you in selfishness. If you try to be cunning, they will swamp you in cunning. If you try to play games, they will play ten times as many games with you. You cannot obtain anything good through traps and trickery. Only through sincerity and honesty and love.

Russia: Army choir performs hymn to Polite People of Crimea
The Alexandrov choir of the Russian Army performed a new piece, entitled Polite People, for the audience at Luzhniki stadium in Moscow on Wednesday as part of celebrations for Victory Day.
First performed in Evpatoriya in Crimea on Apr 10, the lyrics were written by the head of the culture department within the Russia Defence Ministry Anton Gubankov, with the musical accompaniment composed by deputy head of the Alexandrov ensemble Vyacheslav Umanets.
Polite People is an expression which gained rapid popularity on social media after being used to describe Russian troops stationed in Crimea.
