ME: Augusta, State Capital
When Maine separated from Massachusetts and became a state in 1820. The first capital of Maine was Portland, but it moved to Augusta because of its more central location. Augusta became the capital in 1832.
Built using Maine granite, the State House was based on the design of the Massachusetts State House.
A gilt copper statue of Minerva, the draped female figure of Wisdom, by William Clark Noble of Gardiner, surmounted the dome.
The weather-worn, long- oxidized copper sheathing of the dome was replaced in 2014 for the first time since 1909-1920. Gone was the long familiar green color. After the scaffolding was removed and the project completed, the dome shined like a new penny for a short time until it turned to brown. The dome will not turn green again for about 30 years.
The governor's office is located in renovated space on the second floor at the rear of the central portion of the Capitol along with the Hall of Flags and the law library.
At the south side of the Capitol grounds, the Maine State Library, Maine State Museum and Maine State Archives are housed in a modern building.

Not much you can see, a very small city (town maybe?, pop less than 20,000), just a quick stop to take few pictures of the State Capital Building, driving a little bit in downtown Augusta, enough to find-out they have two European-style Roundabouts, pretty rare such road architecture in USA and Canada.

Maine is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and south; New Hampshire to the west; and the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the northwest and New Brunswick to the northeast. Maine is both the northernmost and easternmost portion of New England. It is known for its scenery—its jagged, mostly rocky coastline, its low, rolling mountains, its heavily forested interior, and picturesque waterways—as well as for its seafood cuisine, especially lobster and clams.
For thousands of years, indigenous peoples were the only inhabitants of the territory that is now Maine. At the time of European encounter, several Algonquian-speaking peoples inhabited the area. The first European settlement in Maine was by the French in 1604 on Saint Croix Island, by Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons. The first English settlement in Maine, the short-lived Popham Colony, was established by the Plymouth Company in 1607. A number of English settlements were established along the coast of Maine in the 1620s, although the rugged climate, deprivations, and conflict with the local peoples caused many to fail over the years.
As Maine entered the 18th century, only a half dozen European settlements had survived. Patriot and Loyalist forces contended for Maine's territory during the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Maine was part of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until 1820 when it voted to secede from Massachusetts. On March 15, 1820, it was admitted to the Union as the 23rd state under the Missouri Compromise. Maine is the 39th most extensive and the 41st most populous of the 50 United States. With respect to crime rates, Maine is also often considered the safest state in the U.S. Maine is the 'whitest' state in the union.

Franklin Graham's Decision America 2016 Message - Augusta, Maine.
In the Summer of 2016, Franklin Graham stopped in Augusta Maine to deliver his message in front of the State Capitol. The message was critically important- VOTE!
While there are many flavors of conservative in America, we owe it to ourselves to listen closely to the values and tenets that not only gave our Founding Fathers the wisdom to create a more Perfect Union, but also inspired and led some of our greatest leaders. Ronald Reagan, among others drew his strength from the example set by Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Bible.
Let us never forget what is most important in this life. Let's be sure to keep faith, not in man, but in His promise. Blessed is the nation who's God is the Lord.

State Capitals Song
State Capitals Song by
This song is intended to help children memorize the state capitals of the 50 states of America.
The capitals of the United States are expected to be learned by all American school children. We have deliberately tried to cycle through the states in a fairly obvious geographical order -- with a few small jumps to enable the lyrics to have a nice rhyme and rhythm.
We have set the lyrics to what we hope is catchy but unobtrusive music to aid in the memorization process.
Even for children and adults who don't live in the USA, an awareness of the 50 capital cities and states is an advantage.
Please feel free to give us any feedback with regards to pronunciation of the capitals and states in the comments section. As will be clear from a quick listen we are not actually from America, but we hope that each state and capital city has been pronounced correctly -- despite not being said with an American accent!
Lyrics:

Lyrics:
There is knowledge to gain
When learning the 16 counties
Of Maine
On the east of the USA we stay
We are not plain
We touch the Atlantic Ocean
Retain that in your brain
Vacation, stay, come and play!
Androscoggin County
In the south in Maine
Aroostook County
Is the largest county and it’s here to stay
Cumberland County
Touches the Gulf of Maine
In Franklin County
Canada is just a hop away
Hancock County
Has Bar Harbor come and see
Kennebec County
I hold Augusta in me
Knox County
On the coast touching the Atlantic Ocean
And right next door
You have the county of Lincoln
There is knowledge to gain
When learning the 16 counties
Of Maine
On the east of the USA we stay
We are not plain
We touch the Atlantic Ocean
Retain that in your brain
Vacation, stay, come and play!
The County of Oxford
Touches New Hampshire and Canada
Penobscot County
Is oddly shaped as I showed ya
Piscataquis County
Is large and in charge
Sagadahoc County
Is small and doesn’t want to be large
Somerset County
Borders Quebec in Canada
Waldo County
Is in the Middle part of the east. I’ll see ya
Washington County
Touches New Brunswick
York County
Has Wells Beach where the Kids Learning Tube guy use to visit
I am Maine
On the East coast of the USA
Augusta is my capital
Coma vacation here and stay
There is knowledge to gain
When learning the 16 counties
Of Maine
On the east of the USA, we stay
We are not plain
We touch the Atlantic Ocean
Retain that in your brain

More information about the video content bellow:
1. Settled by Europeans in the 17th century and officially declared a state in 1820, Maine is known for its chilly winters. Blanketed in forests, and bordered on one side by thousands of miles of coastline, the state is full of wonders both natural and human-made. For thousands of years, indigenous peoples were the only inhabitants of the territory that is now Maine. The first European settlement in the area was by the French in 1604 on Saint Croix Island, by Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons. As Maine entered the 18th century, only a half dozen European settlements had survived.
2. Maine has its own desert, which spans 40 acres outside the town of Freeport. Though its silt hills are now a popular tourist attraction, the desert originally developed as a result of over-farming in the area.
3. Maine is nicknamed “The Pine Tree State.” The tree appears on the state flag, and, as of 2012, a full 89 percent of the state was covered in forest, making it the most tree-covered state in the US.
4. Maine has a ton of quirky museums, including the telephone museum in Ellsworth, the Maine Coast Sardine History Museum in Jonesport, the Umbrella Cover Museum in Portland, and perhaps most famously, the International Cryptozoology Museum (also in Portland), dedicated to the study of “hidden” or “unknown” animals like Yetis, Bigfoot, and Lake Monsters.
5. Maine is known as “The Birthplace of Prohibition.” The state was the first to ban the sale and manufacture of alcohol in 1851 (although the law was repealed five years later), and in 1880, Portland Mayor Neal Dow, sometimes called the “Father of Prohibition,” ran for president on the Prohibition Party ticket.
6. European contact with what is now called Maine started around 1200 CE when Norwegians interacted with the native Penobscot in present-day Hancock County, most likely through trade. About 200 years earlier, from the settlements of Iceland and Greenland, Norwegians had discovered America and attempted to settle areas such as Newfoundland, but failed to establish a permanent settlement there. Archeological evidence suggests that Norwegians in Greenland returned to North America for several centuries after the initial discovery to collect timber and to trade, with the most relevant evidence being the Maine Penny, a 10th-century Norwegian coin found at a Native American dig site in 1954.
7. The first capital of Maine was Portland. It was established as the village of Casco in 1632, thus making it one of the oldest cities in the US. Today Portland is the state’s largest city. But Portland didn’t remain a capital for long. Just 12 years after Maine became a state, the capital was moved to Augusta. This is an even older city, having been established in 1629 as Cushnoc in an area that was a hotbed of Native American hostilities towards European settlements.
