The Wadsworth House, Bed & Breakfast, Traverse City, Michigan
Welcome to The Wadsworth House
The Wadsworth House is a recently renovated five-bedroom vacation home in Traverse City’s Historic District. It is located adjacent to Lars Hockstead auditorium, three blocks from West Bay and the heart of downtown.
The Wadsworth has operated for over 100 years, as a rooming and boarding house. Amenities include: a shared kitchen and bathrooms, upscale furnished rooms, incredible location, and a quiet historic neighborhood.
The Wadsworth was initially purchased renovated in December 2012 by the Shaws. They spent countless hours restoring the historical features, and updating rooms and bathrooms.
On May 17th, 2016 Jason and Daena Thibodeau purchased The Wadsworth and continued the renovations and updates. They look forward to continuing the Wadsworth as an inn style vacation getaway.
The History:
The Wadsworth House dates back to as early as 1899 when Mrs. Cora Downing took in boarders. In 1910 the U.S. census listed six residents at 402 Wadsworth. They included Henry and Bertha Sparling – head of household, Mary Louise Fitts-boarder and teacher in Traverse City, Clara Miner-boarder and assistant clerk at the Traverse City clerk’s office, Robert Edwards-roomer and salesman at a local Traverse clothing store, John Hike-roomer and commercial traveler and Etta Minor-roomer who worked as a sales lady at a dry goods store.
The difference between roomer and boarder were meals. The boarders of course were served food and the roomers had a room only. The Wadsworth is currently not serving food, but we do provide a private kitchen with goodies for the guests.
Henry Sparling died in 1951 and the Wadsworth sat vacant for a couple of years until it was purchased by the Anderson family, who ran the home as The Wadsworth House for Girls. The third owner was Francis Vannunen, who deeded the property to Diane Fotchman. Ms. Fotchman continued operations until she sold the home in December of 2012 to William and Deborah Shaw. The Shaws significantly renovated the home over 4 years, until sold to Jason and Daena Thibodeau in May of 2016. The Thibodeau’s have continued (and are still continuing) renovations. The Shaw’s then the Thibodeau’s opened the home as a vacation getaway to Traverse City visitors since 2013.
The Wadsworth is, as far as we know, the only grandfathered-in boarding/rooming house in Traverse City. The Thibodeau’s are operating the Wadsworth under a Traverse City rental license Number CR13-0001.

Places to see in ( Grand Rapids - USA )
Places to see in ( Grand Rapids - USA )
Grand Rapids is a Michigan city on the Grand River, east of Lake Michigan. On the outskirts, the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park has a tropical conservatory and multiple gardens. Its art collection includes works by Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore and Ai Weiwei. Downtown, the Grand Rapids Art Museum spotlights Michigan artists in its rotating shows. Grand Rapids is known for many breweries dotted around town.
A historic furniture-manufacturing center, Grand Rapids is home to five of the world's leading office furniture companies, and is nicknamed Furniture City. Its more common modern nickname of River City refers to the landmark river for which it was named. The city and surrounding communities are economically diverse, based in the health care, information technology, automotive, aviation, and consumer goods manufacturing industries, among others. Grand Rapids is the childhood home of U.S. President Gerald Ford, who is buried with his wife Betty on the grounds of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in the city. The city's main airport is also named after him.
Grand Rapids is the home of John Ball Zoological Garden, Belknap Hill, and the Gerald R. Ford Museum. He and former First Lady Betty Ford were buried on the site. Significant buildings in the downtown include the DeVos Place Convention Center, Van Andel Arena, the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, and the JW Marriott Hotel. The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts is located downtown, and houses art exhibits, a movie theater, and the urban clay studio. Along the Grand River are reconstructed earthwork burial mounds, which were constructed by the prehistoric Hopewell tribe; a fish ladder, and a riverwalk.
Grand Rapids is home to the Van Andel Museum Center. Founded in 1854, it is among the oldest history museums in the United States. The museum's sites currently include its main building, constructed in 1994 on the west bank of the Grand River (home to the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium); the Voigt House Victorian Museum, and the City Archives and Records Center. The latter held the museum and planetarium prior to 1994. Since the late 20th century, the museum has hosted notable exhibitions, including one on the Dead Sea Scrolls, and The Quest for Immortality: the Treasures of Ancient Egypt. A non-profit institution, it is owned and managed by the Public Museum of Grand Rapids Foundation.
Heritage Hill, a neighborhood directly east of downtown, is one of the largest urban historic districts in the country. The first neighborhood of Grand Rapids, its 1,300 homes date from 1848 and represent more than 60 architectural styles. Of particular significance is the Meyer May House, a Prairie-style home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1908.[48] It was commissioned by local merchant Meyer May, who operated a men's clothing store (May's of Michigan).
The house is now owned and operated by Steelcase Corporation. Steelcase manufactured the furniture for the Johnson Wax Building in Racine, Wisconsin, which was also designed by Wright and is recognized as a landmark building. Because of those ties, Steelcase purchased and restored the property in the 1980s. The restoration has been heralded as one of the most accurate and complete of any Wright restoration. The home is used by Steelcase for special events and is open to the public for tours.
Grand Rapids is home to many theaters and stages, including the newly reconstructed Civic Theatre (also known as the Meijer Majestic), the city's largest theater; DeVos Hall, and the convertible Van Andel Arena. In Grand Rapids Township, the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park combine 125 acres (1 km2) of world-class botanical gardens and artwork from such American sculptors as Mark di Suvero and Alexander Calder, and French artists Edgar Degas and Auguste Rodin. The Gardens' amphitheater plays host to numerous concerts each summer, featuring such acts as Jonny Lang, The Pointer Sisters, Lyle Lovett, Cowboy Junkies, and B.B. King.

RV Travel: The Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theatre - Honor, Michigan - Roadside America
While traveling in our RV in Michigan, we came across this neat roadside attraction.
Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theatre & Diner is a historic drive-in theater and diner in Honor, Michigan on US Highway 31. It opened on July 4, 1953 and was one of seven remaining drive-in theaters in Michigan in 2003. It has a snack bar, children's play areas, putt-putt golf, beach volleyball, home-run derby and an area for dogs. Entertainment events include Hula-Hoop contests and Elvis impersonators. The Cherry Bowl is the only remaining drive-in theater in Northern Michigan. The Cherry Bowl's sound system uses the original vacuum tube motiograph amplifiers powering speakers at speaker posts. An FM Radio option is also offered. The drive-in theatre is open in the summertime. The Cherry Bowl has converted to digital HD projection. [Wikipedia]

Manistique Drive In Movie Nights
FREE Drive-In Movie Nights are back! Schoolcraft Tourism & Commerce has hosted six movie events since the summer of 2016 at the long shuttered drive in theater across the highway from the Schoolcraft County Airport, the most recent of which was early this past June.
April and Jason Collins own the property on U.S. 2 and have allowed Don Erickson and Eric Sherbinow of the U.P. Film Union to produce movie events that bring back the bygone days of the drive in theater. The events typically feature a blockbuster movie from the not too distant past followed by a campy, unknown “B feature” as was the norm during the heyday of the drive in.
Drive in theater screens were once a common sight across the United States. At one time there were over 4000 of these screens dotting the landscape of our nation. The advent of home video in the late 70’s and early 80’s brought about the rapid demise of the drive in theater. Today there are fewer than 400 drive ins left.
While the Manistique drive in is officially among those listed in the permanently closed column of websites that keep track of such things the STC manages to occasionally breathe some life back into the only outdoor movie screen left in the Upper Peninsula.
Saturday July 14th will be the next time that our beloved little drive in comes back to life adding one more exciting event to Folk Fest weekend. The drive in events are family friendly and the best part is that they are free of charge.
Movie licensing for a public showing is expensive but thanks to local businesses and organizations who provide sponsorship, the STC and the Film Union are able to put these events on. Past sponsors include: Limestone Federal Credit Union, Manistique Hockey Association, Wheaty’s Pub, Jack Pine Lodge, Big Spring Inn, Grover Real Estate, The Mustard Seed, Savings Insurance Agency, Superior State Agency and Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital.
The July 14th drive in event is being sponsored by Putvin Healthmart Pharmacy in Manistique.
A drive in movie would not be complete without the concession stand and STC drive in events feature concessions operated by local non-profit organizations with all proceeds going to that organization. Each of these concession operators serves their choice of beverages and snacks and they set their own prices. Items that can usually be found at the concession stand include assorted soft drinks (with hot chocolate at cooler times) theater size candy, hot dogs, pizza, and fresh popped theater style popcorn.
St Francis de Sales School will be operating the concession stand for this upcoming event.
For a bit of nostalgia you won’t want to miss this chance to step into the past at the next STC drive in theater event. The show starts at dusk (usually a half hour after sunset). Moviegoers sometimes arrive as early as five or six o’clock but gates officially open at eight o’clock. Be sure to bring items that will ensure your comfort such as lawn chairs, blankets, warm clothes (it gets chilly after sundown), sunscreen and insect repellent.
While fun activities of all kinds are encouraged, fireworks, cooking grills and other sources of open flame are prohibited for safety’s sake.
See you at the drive in!

Lake Huron
Lake Huron (French: Lac Huron) is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. Hydrologically, it comprises the easterly portion of Lake Michigan–Huron, having the same surface elevation as its westerly counterpart, to which it is connected by the wide Straits of Mackinac. It is shared on the east by the Canadian province of Ontario and on the west by the state of Michigan in the United States. The name of the lake is derived from early French explorers who named it for the Huron people inhabiting the region. The huronian glaciation was named due to evidence collected from Lake Huron region. The northern parts of the lake include the North Channel and Georgian Bay. The main inlet is the St. Marys River and the main outlet is the St. Clair.
