London's Transport Accessibility Show - 2nd October 2014
This event was held to demonstrate how London's transport network is being improved for disabled travellers and to seek feedback from disabled people. What you see briefly here and what the situation is on the ground may be two entirely different animals. The music track is London to Brighton by Ray Davies, which sounds a bit like the soundtracks from the black and white British Transport Films of the 1940's and 50's. The only thing missing is commentary from Mr Cholmondley-Warner ;-)

Pingley POW Camp , Brigg #1
This is not the original music from the video. I had to do an audioswap.
Derelict POW camp at Brigg near Scunthorpe.
During World War 2 a POW (Prisoner of War) Camp was built on the outskirts of Brigg. Having been built for a capacity of around 750 prisoners most of which were Italian although there were some German.
The buildings at the rear were constructed by the prisoners themselves to live in.
From 1950-1980 the site went under a different name with a different purpose. It was called 'Pingley Farm Hostel' which was a holiday site for people to come to and work on the farm itself. During this time there were modifications made to the site.
Still standing today Pingley is one of the very few POW Camps in the UK that still stands. The other most famous is Eden Camp but that is now a WW2 Museum.
The brick buildings at the front of the camp still remain in farely good condition but as you move to the back they get in worse and worse condition as you reach the buildings built by the prisoners.
Demolished during January 2009.

Kerry Tourism Showcase 2011 Malton Conference Centre Killarney
Building on the success of the Kerry Tourism Bus Promotion in the UK last month, Kerry County Council, Fáilte Ireland, Go Kerry - All Kerry Tourism and the wider tourism trade is mounting a major one-day showcase of Kerry tourism activities, visitor attractions and product providers in The Malton Hotel, Killarney. Participation in and admission to the exhibition was free.
Key to this is ensuring that everyone involved in tourism, from B&B owners to hotel reception staff, from taxi drivers to coach operators, know what activities and events are available in the county, where they are, and who is operating them. What we are looking to do is to keep the visitor in County Kerry for as long as possible to maximise and distribute the economic benefit to everybody, John Griffin, Kerry Tourism Officer explained. Kerry attracts 1.2 million visitors a year and if just one in three of these would remain in the county for one extra night it would be worth an extra €20 million to the local economy.
