Orenburg Embankment - Europe-Asia Bridge

Orenburg Embankment (Belovka or Pushkin Boulevard) - Orenburg, Sovetskaya Street
Belovka or Belovsky Yar or Pushkinsky Boulevard is the name of the boulevard from the Belovsky Yar precipice (Krepostnoy Yar) of Orenburg, located in the very center of the “historical core”. The toponym comes from the name of the merchant A. A. Belov, who in the XIX century opened a restaurant-cafe Station here. The place became a favorite among the townspeople. The architectural ensemble of Belovka consists of a series of buildings built in the XVIII — IXX centuries.
The pedestrian bridge in the city of Orenburg is a symbol of the city. The bridge is unique, as it connects two banks of the river, located in different parts of the world. The Ural River symbolically divides the city into Europe and Asia. In the center of the bridge there are two border posts with the coat of arms of Orenburg. On one is the inscription Europe, on the other - Asia.
The bridge was built in 1982, but the very first bridge appeared here in 1835, only at that time it was wooden. The length of the bridge is 220 meters.
On the Asian side of the bridge is Zauralnaya Grove with shady trees and coastal landscapes. On the European side there is a favorite place for recreation and walks of citizens - the embankment of Orenburg, where the monument to V. Chkalov and the observation deck are located.

SOUTH KOREA: RUSSIAN PRESIDENT PUTIN VISIT
Russian/Nat
Signalling displeasure over U-S plans for a national missile defense (NMD) system on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin described a 1972 nuclear arms treaty as the root and trunk of world security.
Russia has said the N-M-D would violate the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, which bans such systems under the belief that a country would not launch a nuclear strike if it were unable to protect itself against retaliation.
Any attempts to change the treaty will shake the strategic root and trunk of world peace and security, Putin said during a visit to North Korea.
In another reference to U-S missile defense plans, Putin said like many people in South Korea, Russia has concerns about attempts to deploy weapons in space.
A close ally of Washington and host to 37-thousand U-S soldiers, South Korea has not taken a public position on the U-S project.
Some Seoul officials privately worry that it could disrupt its fragile rapprochement with the North, a fierce critic of
Washington's plan.
China, a major trading partner of South Korea and a traditional ally of North Korea, is also a critic of U-S missile defence.
In Washington, however, President Bush indicated he would push ahead with the N-M-D which is designed to thwart any attacks by perceived rogue nations such as communist North Korea.
Washington's European allies are concerned, and Russia last week presented NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson with an outline for a non-strategic missile defense proposal for Europe to counter the American initiative.
Russia has also said that if the United States withdraws from the 1972 treaty, Moscow would feel compelled to abandon agreements that limit numbers of long-range nuclear weapons.
During his trip to Seoul, Putin also pledged to support the reconciliation process between the two Koreas.
Putin, who is trying to expand Russia's role in Northeast Asia as well as Europe, is scheduled to depart later on Wednesday for Vietnam.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
An easing of tension on the Korean peninsula is impossible without the elimination of weapons of mass destruction. In line with our interest in global missile non-proliferation, Russia is prepared to play a role in this matter.

On the basis of this treaty (Anti Ballistic Missile treaty) stands the world's security system. A great many international agreements are based on this treaty. Therefore I am sure that any attempts to violate this treaty will shake the root of world peace and security.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
