Hundreds of Sofia residents celebrated the departure of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski outside of the National Assembly building, Wednesday, after the former PM's resignation letter to parliament paves the way for an interim government to take over and for a general election in October.
Following widespread protests in Bulgaria for Oresharski to quit since 2013, with a call for new elections, an end to corruption in the banking system and for reformation of the judicial system, Oresharki's resignation comes over 400 days later after such demonstrations began.
Anti-government protesters had clashed with police during the initial protests in 2013, with the government building getting occupied by activists demanding for the government to step down and violent scenes sweeping across the capital.
Many of the merrymakers chanted 'victory'as they marched to the parliament building, whilst drinking champagne and beating drums.

English translation below.

STRANGEST Places in Bulgaria
From decaying soviet monuments, to the bridge that’s possibly possessed by the devil, here are 12 strangest places in Bulgaria. But first, we’d like to give a shout out to all our bulgarian subscribers out and be sure to let us know in the comment section that you’re watching.

4. Alyosha Monument!
As we’ve mentioned before, Bulgaria was certainly a part of the Soviet Union, whether they liked it or not and possibly as a form of propaganda, massive monuments were constructed to represent soviet strength. Here we see the Alyosha monument which stands 36 feet tall in the city of Plovdiv. Built in 1957, this was meant to memorialize the Red Army gaining control of the city after fighting off Nazi forces during world war II. The striking presence is rather clear, as it sits on the top of a hillside, overlooking the city. Inhabitants of the town have mixed feelings about the monument. While some believe it’s a dark reminder of sovie t rule, others find it to be a work of art that attracts tourism to the area. The people of the city even thought about turning it into a giant coke bottle but instead, they just left it the way it is. It’s also used as an observation town, where people can take in amazing views of the valley around them. What do you think about this relic of soviet rule? Should Bulgaria hold onto Soviet monuments for tourism purposes or should they transform them into something less imposing. Let us know in the comment section and maybe we’ll feature you in an upcoming video!
3. Bulgarian Soviet Friendship Monument
Also located in the province of Varna, another imposing soviet moment stands stall made of solid concrete. This stands right on the coastline of the Black Sea, so that it can be visible to incoming ships. The location of the monument also has historical importance to it. It was built on Turna Hill which saw quite a bit of bloodshed, where russians launched an attack against the Ottomans in 1828. It takes 300 steps to reach the top and the monument is 160 feet across. The four sculptures you see are of 4 soviet soldiers who are coming to rescue 3 seemingly helpless Bulgarian women. The monument tries to display soviet heroism and wants to represent how they’ve saved Bulgaria from foreign rulers throughout history, while they were sort of a foreign occupier themselves. It took 10000 concrete to build along with 1000 tons of armature iron for the structure. On the positive side, the Soviets added more than 20,000 trees to this project surrounding the monument which helps out with the environment at least. The structure opened in 1978 but was left abandoned after the fall of communism. Today it’s still visited by many tourists in the area.
2. Kaliakra
The rocky coastline of the black sea in some locations can certainly create some dramatic breathtaking scenes. Located North of Varna, this peninsula is known for it’s still cliffsides, medieval fortresses and spooky history! According to legend, 40 Bulgarian women decided that they would rather jump off the cliffside and into the black sea, rather than being capture by the ottomans and used as harem girls. Many claim that they’re ghosts still linger throughout the cliffsides late at night. Other legends tell tales about an officer of alexander the great who seized a large amount of treasure then he decided to hide out here. However, on his way, he was met by a huge storm that sunk his ship! Could there still be treasure lingering nearby? Visitors of this mysterious piece of land can explore ruins of a fortress that was built here, a statue of an admiral F Ushakov dolphins and also the wind power generators that provide electricity to nearby areas.
The Devil’s Bridge
Be careful about crossing the Devil’s bridge in Bulgaria, because it might just be possessed by the Devil himself. There are a few Devil’s Bridges throughout Europe but many claim that his one is one of the creepiest in the world and that the devil actually helped in the final construction.. It also gets this name for the ghoulish reflection it makes on the water and if you turn this photo vertically, you can see the horns and evil shape of the eyes! Legends also claim that a body of the builder's wife was hidden inside this structure and builder had to made a pact with the devil to complete it. ! Some believe if you look around the wilderness around the bridge, you can find the devil’s footprints on the stones. Sofia - Bulgaria
Sofia is one of the hippest cities in Bulgaria. In the past 10 years, Sofia has changed from a boring, sad-looking place to a modern and lively capital. To be honest, Sofia couldn't be called a tourist atraction. On the contrary, Sofia, despite the fact that it is the administrative city of Bulgaria, is an amazing destination for a non-stop partying experience. In fact, only in central Sofia there are over 300 bars, restaurants, discos and cafes you could spend a nice time in. The book market and the flea market are also interesting spots in Sofia.
As Bulgaria has only recently joined the EU, the prices are still much lower than those of Western EU states. As a result, Sofia is a cheap alternative, with an interesting twist. It isn't beautiful, it isn't clean, it isn't well organised, but it provides the grounds for an amazing holiday, spent in a luxurious hotel overlooking the mountain, and with over 300 bars, restaurants, discos and cafes in a radius of less than 2km, the capital is also an easily accessible city.
For those travelling on a budget, hostels (available on the internet) are definitely an alternative. One useful tip for those who need a ride to town: pay attention to the taxi drivers- they will usually try to charge you more, and always choose cabs that are registered to a cab company (The official currency is Bulgarian Lev, so your bill is in bulgarian leva and not in Euros. Usually the taxi drivers will tell you the exact sum of money that is written in the electronical device but in Euros. 1 Euro = 1.95583 Bulgarian Leva. So, for example from the Airport to the City Center of Sofia should cost you around 10-12 leva which is 5-6 Euro. A good taxi company is OK Taxi) . A few words in Bulgarian may be more useful than you imagine.
Sofia is a city that's needs to be seen from all angles - the bad and the good. There are a lot of sights that should definetely be visited. You will see at least half of them around the Tsar Osvoboditel boulevard.Such are The Largo (Ploshtad Nezavisimost),The Bulgarian National Bank, the first city garden located infront of the National Theatre Ivan Vazov,The Former King's Palace nowadays the National Art Gallery, the Russian Church,Voennia Klub (the Milatary Club),Tsar Osvoboditel monument, the National Assembly of Bulgaria, the National University Saint Kliment Ohridski, the St.Alexander Nevsky Cathedral etc.The boulevard finishes at Orlov Most (Eagle's Bridge) where is the National Stadium Vassil Levski and from where starts Sofia's largest park - Borisova gradina or The garden of Boris. From Orlov most can be seen the monument of the Soviet Army,a symbol of Bulgaria's communist past. The monument is one of the three places where young people from the capital gather along with Ploshtad Bulgaria (Bulgaria Square infront of NDK - the National Palace of Culture) and Patriarha (Patriarh Evtimiy Square).
The transport infrastructure of the city is very well developed.Sofia has a major bus and train station and also a very busy airport serving various destination around Europe,Asia,Africa and also offering charter flights to many other places. The public transport is the best one in the country - there is one subway line, second one under construction,9 trolleybus lines,16 tram lines,93 bus lines and around 50 marshroutka lines (very fast private minibuses covering almost all of the city. From the airport you can take bus line 84 or 284.The second one will lead you directly in to the city centre, right behind the monument of the Soviet army. From there you can walk on foot to Orlov most. That's one of the busiest places in the capital - from there you can get to almost anywhere in the by bus, marshroutka or trolleybus. The ticket for the tram, metro, bus and trolleybus lines is 1 lev or around 0,50 euros. For the marshroutka the price is 1,50 leva or 0,75 euros.
If you arrive in the city by train or bus (the Central Train Station and the Central Bus station are right next to each other) you can catch tram lines 1 or 7 which pass through Lavov most (Lion's Bridge) which is very close to the Women's Market - Sofia's central bazaar. After that they continue and will take you to the large Sveta Nedelya Cathedral, the statue of Santa Sophia and TZUM - the city's central departement store.Very close by is the Catholical cathedral of Saint Joseph. If you continue with the tram you'll travel through out Sofia's busiest and longest shopping street - Vitosha Boulevard or shortly Vitoshka. After you pass it,you will see the large Ploshtad Balgaria (Bulgaria Square) and the National Palace of Culture.
There are a lot of hotels in Sofia, most of which are in the city's outskirts. But there are a few right in the city centre like Grand Hotel Sofia and Grand Hotel Bulgaria.
