Australian Steam Trains: Steamrail Victoria's R700 transfer to Melbourne.
Steamrail Victoria was chartered for the Annual Ballarat Heritage Weekend by the Ballarat City Council with the use of steam locomotives K190 and Y112 (SRV Ballarat). A transfer was needed to take the rolling stock and locos from Newport SRV Depot to the location of festivities on Friday the 11th via North Geelong. On Monday the 14th the return transferred occurred back to Melbourne, Minus Y112 which stayed at it's Ballarat East Depot home, whilst Steamrail retrieved Hudson R700 from the facility, which had been decided to be brought to Newport for future restoration. This was placed in the middle of the consist due to no proper braking ability.

Victorian Railways locomotive A2 986 was built in 1915 at the Newport Railway Workshops and at the time was a fast passenger locomotive. 102 years later in 2017, V/Line VLocity VL65 was completed and made a visit to the Steamrail Depot in West Block, Newport Railway Workshops to celebrate Victorian Trains being built in Victoria as well as the lead up to A2 986's return to service tour to Warragul on Saturday 13th May 2017. A2 986 having just being finished in a lengthy 30 year restoration stood side by side with the newest built V/Line Fast Passenger train built in Victoria, VLocity VL65. - 11.05.2017

Hi all just a short vid I filmed yesterday at the 2012 Steamrail open day in Newport, Melbourne, Australia. Shows a broad gauge K class and R class double header pulling a short demonstration train up and down the yard. Also shows an R class on the manual turntable at the end. Sorry I didn't use a tripod as the photo line was packed with enthusiasts hehe.
Was a great day!!

I made my way to Newport for Steamrail Victoria's Open day. This was a great opportunity to see the historical railway workshop where most of the heritage steam loco's and rolling stock was built. It was also a great chance to get up close to the preserved loco's and carriages.
You can see all different type's of steam, electric and diesel loco's in this video, including R classes, T classes and Hitachi EMU's.
I also went on a tour of the west block workshop, still used today for restoring old carriages by Steamrail Volunteers.

Steamrail Victoria Depot - April 2001
The Steamrail Victoria depot in the former Newport workshops tarp shop. Steamrail has since relocated to West Block and the old site is now used as sidings for Metro Trains Melbourne. The tarp shop is fenced off. The video quality is poor but hopefully provides a record of some of the daily activities that took place at the ‘lost’ depot.

On its test run Steamrail Victoria Locomotive R711 is viewed from the train between Goulburn River and Dockereys Road on the 3rd September 2011.
Oil fired R711 is heard accelerating its train to Dysart Siding, passing through Tallarook station and climbing to Dockereys Road providing an impressive performance for passengers and line siders alike.

Hello All,
Today I have a short Chase video of Y112 being transferred from Ballarat to Newport. I took the time to start my journey from Wynham Vale where Y112 made history of being the first Steam Service through the Newly Built RRL.
Y112 is currently the oldest Steam Locomotive which is Preserved in Operational Condition in Victoria.
Y112 is owned by Sovereign Hill, but on mainline lease to Steamrail who operates the engine, and keeps it maintained.
The Service ran from Steamrail's Ballarat Compound to Geelong where the locomotive was serviced. After it departed out at 12:15PM and headed for the RRL to Sunshine where it broke off the mainline again and roamed on the Freight Line where it stabled into Newport Workshops.

Hello All,
Today I have another Railway Chase with Steamrail's latest Restoration, A2 986.
Once again Steamrail planned to have another Test service to Geelong behind locomotive A2 986 this time via Gheringhap.
The train consisted of two wooden carriages and two S Cars and a water tank for the locomotive.
After 30 years of restoration, A2 986 is finally capable of running trains again.

Steamrail Victoria Depot - April 2009 (Part 1)
Over a 2 day period in April 2009 I took a considerable amount of video at Steamrail Victoria’s depot in Newport.
The footage includes some interesting shunting moves during the final days of the Tarp Shop at the time when everything was being moved across to West Block.
There is also a glimpse inside the now demolished admin office otherwise known as Termite House.

Newport Workshops Steamrail yards
Today was a great day at Newport it's also the first time filming up on Mount Newport we see the old carriages around the yard we see the D3'639 the A2'986 K153 R707 R711 R761 Y164 and some steamrail and 707 operations carriages and we also see over Mount Newport some old carriages also stored Hitachi sets 298M-1999T-297M-289M-1981T-290M also 288M-1979T-287M-274M-1909T-273M and the croydon derailment set 284M-1975T-283M-291M-1982T-292M next to the set it 294M-1987T-293M-300M-2007T-299M and we also see Comeng set 583M-1022T-589M (also from the set from the dandenong south rail disaster it lost another Comeng set 305M-1003T-306M which was scrapped in May last year and Comeng set 583M-1022T-589M was stabbed at Newport for three years until it was stored according to Vicsig it only suffered minor damage but why store it for nothing) hope you enjoy this video.
