New Life Being Breathed Into Old CPR Steamship Terminal
VICTORIA -- The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority says the old CPR building is almost tenant ready.
A coffee, specialty wine and beer store, retailers and a pub walking out to the causeway are all possibilities for the revitalized space.
The Authority expects to choose the right tenants in the next month or so and hopes to have the doors open in 6 to 9 months.
The next phase of the development is hoped to include a common use ferry terminal for the Coho and the Clipper. Both companies say they are interested in hearing and seeing more.

Also the last Countess Maria dei Medici, who lived adjacent to the Eschen Villa hand wrote a poem for Vanessa as a child… Not many People can say that!
Vanessa got her teaching Degree in Salzburg but her real love and talents were for cooking.. after moving to Vancouver Island, she honed her chef skills under the eye of her brother in law Dieter von Schellwitz who had been the first executive chef at the famous Ilikai Resort in Waikiki, and had chef career in New York and San Francisco.
Coming to Vancouver Island via Culture City itself – Salzburg Austria – A true Austrian,Vanessa has pure Mozart flowing through her veins and a delicious piping hot Austrian ApfelStrudel in the Oven for her many guests! Vanessa and her 70’s husband owned and operated the Austrian Chalet, an 80 room hotel with 3 Restaurants in Campbell River BC

Greater Victoria Harbour Authority Wins Lease of CPR Steamship Terminal Building
VICTORIA - The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority has won the lease and the keys to the CPR Steamship Terminal building in Victoria's Inner Harbour.
The Harbour Authority has big plans for the historic building, including eateries, retail and office space. Eventually it wants to turn back the clocks, returning the building to its roots as a terminal.

Entering the Inner Habour of Victoria in the late 1950s in the summer
This is taken from the front deck of a CPR steamship, if I were to guess, I think it was Princess Elaine.
The first 30 seconds show the MV Kalakala when she was part of the Washington State Ferries.
At 0:45 you get a good view of the BAPCO paint plant at Laurel Point. BAPCO was for a long time the largest paint plant in Canada west of Toronto
The date has to be between 1955 and 1960 because those are the years the Kalakala sailed to Victoria. I will try to narrow it down some more.
I will try to identify which CPR steamer is at the dock at the end of the film clip
I have slowed the original clip by half to allow for people to see the details of the Inner Harbour better

Revitalization Plan for Victoria Inner Harbour
VICTORIA - Thousands of visitors flock to Victoria's Inner Harbour every year. But it has been decades since the landmark has seen any changes, and many say it's time.
The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority's proposed revitalization of the CPR Steamship Terminal is a start.
But the non profit says this is only the beginning. Phase two of the project would transform the building back to a ferry terminal for the Clipper and Coho ferries.
The GVHA says the land vacated by the Clipper terminal building could potentially be used for a fine arts development, such as a museum or performing arts district, with a First Nations touch.
The decision would be a collaboration between many partners including the GVHA, the Provincial Capital Commission, and the City of Victoria.

Craigdarroch Castle (Victoria, BC)
Craigdarroch Castle is a definitively Victorian experience. It is a shining example of a “bonanza castle” — massive houses built for entrepreneurs who became wealthy during the industrial age. In this case, the industrialist was Robert Dunsmuir, a Scottish immigrant who made his fortune from Vancouver Island coal.
This legendary Victorian mansion, built between 1887 and 1890 on a hill overlooking the City of Victoria, announced to the world that Robert Dunsmuir was the richest and most important man in Western Canada. He died in 1889, leaving his entire estate to his wife Joan, who lived in the Castle until her death in 1908.
The immense fortune of the Dunsmuir family is reflected in the four floors of exquisite stained glass windows, intricate woodwork and fabulous Victorian-era furnishings.
Exploring Victoria, B.C.
Victoria, B.C. has many interesting attractions but we were most impressed with Butchart Gardens. Its flower displays are very impressive. We also liked afternoon tea at the Empress and the Royal B.C. museum. Victoria is also a good place to get fit with its biking, running and sea kayaking opportunities.
