The best things to do at Christmas in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is known as Christmas City USA, and there are a lot of great things to do here during the holiday season. Find out more here:
Bethlehem Steel Stacks, Bethlehem PA.
Abandoned Bethlehem Steel Stacks in Pennsylvania, now defunct, stands testimony to once a giant that hired over 300,000 employees and reigned for over 140 years... The plant churned up one ship a day during the height of world war II.
Rising costs and low profits including higher pension for retirees is what forced it to file for bankruptcy.

A little Drone 101, some important flight safety rules and regulations...
Buying a drone? Well hold up, not so fast just yet lol...
A few things here to consider...
I'll tell you It's not easy flyin' that thing up there!...
GPS and compass not properly calibrated? and you will lose it!...can't land before the battery depletes? You will crash...or better be ready for some drone hunting or water landings ????
One crash and you are done!
And with all the wind and weather.... which you don't see in the videos .... Drone can have violent reactions to high wind velocity and weather!. Wishy washy shakin' all over! It can be unstable and scary, even with mild winds at takeoff, but the higher you go the more you encounter wind!
Not to mention multiple permissions involved including from FAA and Air Traffic Controllers!!! You are required by law to call them and submit a flight plan that includes your height, distance, when and where, and bearings.
You have to observe any local municipality and township ordinances as well as deal with any sorts of restricted airspace and trespassing laws or you are in violation of federal laws and rules and regulations.
by the way... your flight status and flight record is internally recorded on your drone for later scrutiny by the feds in case you are having any thoughts of violating flight safety rules!...
Police permissions are separate!
You have to follow so many rules and regulations, in the end, you will feel like a Pilot!
it's Federal laws now. Part 107 , section 336 and others.. otherwise you are risking lives in commercial aviation not to mention people, cars and residential areas on the ground!
Too much to follow just for a few seconds of drone flight! Not for the weak of heart!
And of course aircraft registration with the Federal Aviation Authority is separate!
For commercial videos and photography, thousands of dollars are on the line everytime you go up!
And then.... you have to deal with the people wanting to shoot down your drones..lol.. so I am very careful and cautious and get all kinds of permissions BEFORE I fly..... so as to not to disturb anyone with noise levels ( drones can easily be as loud as a lawn mower or more!) or invade their privacy in any manner!...
But.. it IS a LOT of fun! being able to go to places or fly over scenery you would've never thought of or have a chance to be able to go otherwise! AND it gives your photos and videos a totally new perspective!.... things you cannot even pre- compose or imagine unless you are up there! ...so for me ... it is totally WORTH the trouble...EXPENSIVE HOBBY though!
n' I freakin LOVE it!!!
The flexibility it gives you is unrivaled! You feel invincible! middle of corn fields anywhere you go you can quickly just stop and take your shots! Like no one else has ever seen before!
And so far with all the droaning I've done I have locked my drone at 7 miles per hour no more than that with limitations to distance and altitude!
Once I get better at it I will start unlocking those things as it can fly up to 70 miles an hour!
Drones can be awesome and a lot of fun to fly when when you are following rules and regulation.
Even with height restrictions at around 400 meters (roughly 1368 feet) for most of the United States, checking out the height of Eiffel Tower is 982 ft you are allowed to go up to 1368 ft which is freakin' awesome!...
Bethlehem steel stacks are about 282 feet in height... you see me going up to about 300 feet here.
Flying drones can be disorienting, to say the least...as you can quickly lose sight of it against the backlit horizon ( hence the keep within line-of-sight rule!) and in the sun you can't really see the screen on your controller you need both hands at all times on the controls or use a screen guard I couldn't even cover my screen to be able to see it properly..
Well anyhow these are things one has to observe and practice.
Now if you still want to fly one, fly responsibly, use common sense judgement and good luck, be safe and have lots of fun! ????????????????????????????.

(pt#1) A Visit to Bethlehem,Pa {Blast Furnace} w/my son
A little bit of History--Bethlehem,Pa ( Blast Furnace )at Bethlehem Steel--Bethlehem Steel Corporation was America's second-largest steel producer and largest shipbuilder--
After a decline in the American steel industry and other problems leading to the company's bankruptcy in 2001,the company was dissoved and the remaining assets sold to International Steel Group in 2003. In 2005, ISG merged with Mittal Steel, ending American ownership of the assets of Bethlehem Steel....
Their demise is often cited as one of the most prominent examples of the U.S. economy's shift away from industrial manufacturing, its failure to compete with cheap foreign labor, and management's penchant for short-term profits...

Bethlehem: American Utopia, American Tragedy | Seth Moglen
Seth Moglen, Associate Professor of English and Co-Director of the South Side Initiative, Lehigh University; Member (2009-10), School of Social Science, Institute for Advanced Study
April 28, 2010
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was founded by the Moravians in the 1740s as a utopian religious community. At the turn of the twentieth century, it became one of the iconic steel towns of industrial America, a destination for working-class immigrants from dozens of countries and the producer of steel for a century of skyscrapers and battleships. At the turn of the twenty-first century, it underwent the familiar fate of deindustrialization, as steel production and an entire way of life came to an end. Today, a casino has been built on the ruins of the Bethlehem Steel site, as the city seeks to remake itself as a tourist and entertainment destination. In its three main phases—as eighteenth-century city on the hill, as industrial steel town, and as postindustrial brownfield and casino development—Bethlehem stands as a microcosm of America itself, revealing salient features of the nation's development. In this talk to the Friends of the Institute for Advanced Study, Seth Moglen discusses the structures of power that have shaped the city of Bethlehem as well as the aspirations that have emerged in response to them. A member of the 2009--10 School of Social Science Dewey Seminar on education, schools, and the state, Moglen also argues that universities have a distinctive role to play as engines of democracy in postindustrial America.
