With only a short amount of time in Hungary we knew Budapest had to be the place to visit, travel and vlog. Today was exploring the Buda side of the city starting with Chain Bridge, then up to Buda Castle and further around to Fishermans Bastion.
The Chain Bridge has so many interesting stories about it's build, but we love the story of the Hungarian stunt pilot flying underneath, year before we visited in 2018.
Walking over the Chain Bridge we arrived at the base of the Buda Castle, aka Budapest Castle. There was a festival on so we couldnt get full access to the Castle grounds sadly, but the view back over the city of Budapest and the Chain Bridge made it worth it.
Further around to Fishermans Bastion we discovered the most epic little church, more views of Budapest and hundreds of people. Definitely walk the back streets of Fishermans Bastion and get lost in the little lane ways.

Today we depart Budapest on a bus to Zagreb. We've used Flixbus a few times now, generally it's a good travel day and the bus is nice enough, but today we did hit a few hiccups passing from Hungary boarder into Croatia. To be fair, thats a travel day though and as you can see from the vlog it wasn't really a big deal. Also, the delays arriving into Croatia aren't really the fault of Flix bus at all.
Regardless, we're in Zagreb and excited to share more of what Croatia has to offer! There's lots of new vlog content and travel videos to share from Croatia so stay tuned for more!

Budapest’s Golden Assembly
Standing on the banks of the Danube River, the Hungarian Parliament Building is a stunning example of neo-Gothic architecture. Commissioned in 1880, it took over 1,000 people and 24 years to build. Unless you know your way around, it’s easy to get lost in this massive structure, which features 10 courtyards and hundreds of offices linked by an endless array of corridors. Aside from being home to Hungary’s National Assembly, the building also houses the nation’s crown, worn by 50 rulers, dating back to the 12th century.

HOW TO REACH THE CASTLE HILL IN BUDAPEST -- True Guide Budapest
The Buda Castle is located on top of the Castle Hill on the Buda side of the river Danube. Despite its elevated location, it very easy to access.
In this video, I show you 3 traditional methods (walking, taking bus #16, taking the funicular), 2 lazy methods (taking one of the lifts or an escalator) and 1 touristy method.
I. Traditional methods:
(1) walking
- steep hill walk starting from the left side of the funicular in Clark Adam ter
- stairs from the other side of the tunnel
- taking a tram to Batthyanyi ter, walking through the square by the left side of the market, little Paris square, hidden staircase and lift by the side of the Hilton
(2) take bus #16, 3 stops and you're there
(3) Funicular / Cable car (we call it Sikló that stands for water snake), be prepared for long queues
II. Lazy methods:
(1) Take one of the lifts

My 30 Day Eurail Pass - Budapest, Hungary
Back to Budapest, it's been years since I first visited Budapest for a Viking River Cruise down the Danube to Nuremburg, Germany. I didn't spend much time here last time, so I was really looking forward to exploring the city again.
I stayed at a very nice hotel, the Lanchid 19, A Luxury Collection, right below the castle on the river. It was easy enough to catch the bus right at the bridge to get to the other side. I was able to navigate the buses, trams and subway pretty well, just one wrong direction this time.
I met with some locals from Couchsurfing, the first was Marcell, a music student who had never met anyone from Couchsurfing before. We hung out at his local bar, that's where everyone from his school hangs out, even one of his teachers stopped by and had a drink with us.
After our meeting I wandered around the city, it was nice to see how the buildings and monuments looked lit up after dark. I made my way back to my hotel and was looking forward to my first full day in Budapest.
Today I had a food tour with Taste Hungary, their Culinary Walk. We met at the Central Market, an amazing building full of food and other products to buy. The food tour was so good, we got to taste so many local foods. The various salamis were great, the picked veggies, especially the watermelon, that was surprising. We had the traditional Langos, Unicum digestive drink, a delicious chocolate shop, a nice local lunch spot for more meat and some goulash, and an old coffee shop for some coffee and pastries. Our last stop was wine and cheese tasting, so good, I even liked their dessert wine, and I don't drink alcohol.
Later that evening I met up with Petra, a local college student who showed me around the city, some of her favorite spots. We did quite a bit, had some good Hungarian pancakes, meat and dessert. Had some wine, some great inexpensive pizza and tried to get into a temple bar, but it was too crowded.
I also met Anna, who had a photography exhibit at a coffee shop where I just happened to stop by for a hot chocolate. She was showing some really nice photos along with her friend Pele.
I had a great time in Budapest, time went by so fast, I need to go back again!

Europe Bus Travel from Budapest, Hungary to Krakow, Poland
Join us as we travel from Budapest, Hungary to Krakow, Poland on Flexibus as part of our Europe bus travel series. Having spent a few weeks in Kyrgyzstan we took a return flight back to Budapest, Hungary but only for a stopover.
Originally we had planned to travel around the Balkans but we quickly changed that to the Baltics after experiencing high temperatures in Budapest and realizing it would only get hotter if we headed further south. With this mind we settled on starting our journey north in Kraków, Poland.
Overall, the journey was comfortable and rather scenic especially as we crossed through Slovakia. Upon arriving, before we even considering checking in, we first had to grab some pierogi. Afterwards we ended up getting super lost trying to catch a local tram because of bad directions.
When we finally did arrive at our AirBNB we were in awe of how big and nice it was. Given our excitement we had to pop open a bottle of wine to celebrate.

Well good morning good morning from Budapest. We are back from Kyrgyzstan. We really didn't vlog any of that because our flight was like at what six in the morning. Yeah. We were up at four. We were so drowsy and we just slept on both flights. Yeah, we were proper zombies. Yes. And we figured it was the exact same journey just back to here. Yeah. But yeah we are going to vlog today. We've made a very quick change of plans. Oh my gosh.
Haha. Originally we were going to go to the Balkans. Yes. And now we're going to the Baltics. Yes because we arrived here in Budapest and it was so hot we couldn't function. And we were just thinking like are we really going to go further south where the temperatures are like mid 30s and even going to be going up to 40s. We were like no that is not a good idea. Let's head north instead where it is a bit cooler.
Yeah, so it has been put on the backburner. We're definitely going to go in the late fall. Yes. But just not now. Anyways, today we are off to Krakow, Poland.
Alright, Flixbus again. Why flixbus?
Because it is cheap. It is cheaper than taking the train or flying. And how much were the tickets for this one?
We paid 11 Euros and it is a seven hour bus ride. That is not bad.
So the update is that we've arrived in Slovakia. I think we're somewhere in the middle. Yeah. And yeah I think we have about two and half or three hours left to reach Poland and cross the border.
And it has been a beautiful beautiful drive. Like Slovakia is man that is a country I'd like to explore more in the future. Mountains and forests.
Yes, lots of forests and just lots of quaint little towns. It looks really cool.
So I do like to know where we are. So we are in Ruzomberok. I probably butchered that fiercely. And we're on the way to Krakow.
And you know what? I think most travelers after like arriving to their destination are just like dead set on like getting right to their accommodations and checking in and whatever. But no not for us. We're hungry and so before we even think about going to our AirBNB we're going to find some food here.
Surprise surprise actually there is no surprise. What is the 1st thing that we're ordering in Poland? We're having Pierogi. Oh, of course.
We made it. We are on the 5th floor. Actually it took us a while to get here because we had been sent instructions and the two trams we were told to take. Yeah. One of them wasn't running at this time. Okay.
But we're here. We made it to the apartment. It is really cool. Like it is so cool.
Yeah, long day. Anyways, we've got wine in hand. We've got great adventures in Krakow so expect food reviews and a city guide and an apartment tour coming soon. Urgh.

Arriving at Budapest Airport - Budapest Ferihegy International Airport - Air Travel Video
We are at the International Arrivals area at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) in Budapest Hungary. The international passenger arrivals area is easily navigated to, from your flights arrival gate. Once in the baggage claim terminal you can fetch a baggage trolley..... if you happen to have the 300 HUF´s that it costs (not much, but who has small change in local currency when they have just gotten of the plane).
This is the first time I have ever experienced being charged to use a baggage trolley in an airport, not a particularly warm welcome from the airport, hopefully something will be done about that! Check the footage to see if you can see anybody who had the 300 HUF´s for the baggage trolley.
Apart from the above, the baggage claims area is spacious and efficient and it did not take us long to receive our luggage. There were also clean toilet facilities available for passengers. We then proceeded through customs (also very efficient) into the arrivals terminal. In the arrivals terminal we quickly were able to identify the tourist information desk, the airport transfer shuttle / city transfer shuttle and there was no shortage of taxi drivers offering their transport services. We chose to purchase our Budapest Tourist Card (72 hours) at the airport and then opted to be driven to Budapest City Center with the Airport Shuttle. We shared this shuttle from the airport to Budapest City Center with two other couples. We were last to be dropped off, but the service was very quick and we enjoyed the extra sightseeing trip we got out of that.
All in all we found that the International arrivals terminal and services at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) were efficient and effective (accept the practice of charging for a baggage trolley!!).

???????? Prejudice and Pride in Hungary: Inside the Far Right | Radicalised Youth
Hungary was the first country to close its borders when around one million refugees arrived on European soil in 2015. The country's far-right Fidesz party swiftly positioned itself as the self-proclaimed defender of Christian Europe under the leadership of anti-immigrant nationalist leader, Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Following a global trend, growing numbers of Hungary's youth are joining far-right wing and neo-Nazi movements, such as the Highwaymen's Army (Betyarsereg), to fight for a way of life they believe is under threat.
The Highwaymen are affiliated with the country's far-right political movement, Force and Determination, and believe in racially-justified violence. They went to 'help' the military forces at the country's southern borders when migrants passed through Hungary on the Balkan route in 2015. And some of their members are currently on trial for intimidating Roma.
We never prepare for a fight, we are ready for a fight, says Adam, a 27-year-old who joined the Highwaymen in 2016. I like being a member of the Highwaymen's Army because it means togetherness ... In order to apply, you obviously have to be Hungarian, and white. Jews should avoid us. They're not only not allowed to join, but if he asked to join the Highwaymen's Army I would smack him in the face.
Political analyst Bulscu Hunyadi believes that most of these youngsters do not join far-right organisations because they are obsessed with the ideology, because they are neo-Nazis per se. Most of the time they join these organisations because they want to join a community, they want to belong to a group of people. And step by step, of course, they start believing in this ideology.
Botond, an 18-year-old high school graduate with ambitions to forge a career in Hungary's far-right politics, is still looking for a movement to join and is determined to defend Hungary against liberalism and multiculturalism.
I feel like I have to fight, fight for my country ... There is a war against the white race. Nowadays, you can say whatever you want except if you are heterosexual, if you are white and if you are a Christian, says Botond, who goes on regular vigilante patrols in the city in search of what he calls degenerates.
However, this perceived threat is a myth ... because nobody is threatening Hungary, we don't have immigrants at all, zero immigration, but this is the one political topic everybody's discussing, explains Gaspar Tamas, a philosopher and political scientist.
If you want to learn what the world might look like very soon, regard Hungary. And Hungary's an extreme of the predicament the whole world is going through.

Central Europe Tour (2019) - Part 3 - Hungary
Leaving Poland behind, we made our way south, through Slovakia into Hungary.
First stop was in the quaint villiage of Orawka, Poland to view St. John The Baptist Church built in 1651ad (the oldest existing wooden church in the region.
Rolling through the Tatra Mountains of Slovakia with a couple stops, we finally arrived to Hungary's Capital City of Budapest.
The next day on the Guided tour, we made our way to view the Hungarian Parliament, the Royal Palace, and Heroes' Square. Over the Elizabeth bridge into the Buda Hills, we visited Castle Hill, Matthias Church, and Fisherman's Bastion and then some.
We topped off the evening with a Danube River Cruise and Dinner.
