Beachcomber, Seven Mile Beach | Cayman Islands Sotheby's International Realty | Caribbean
Beachcomber is one of the most recent masterpieces from renowned Seven Mile Beach developer Brian E. Butler and saw a re-development of what was the site of the old Beachcomber. The new development is a seven storey building which is home to forty luxury condominiums offering a variety of floor plans, giving owners and vacation renters a choice of two, three and four bedroom apartments. Beachcomber has an incredible feature swimming pool with a curved front, infinity edge which invites you to swim up and enjoy the view across Seven Mile Beach to the vibrant colours of the Caribbean Sea beyond. The distance between the Beachcomber and the water line is one of the largest for any condo complex on Seven Mile Beach, this depth of sand is one of the reasons Beachcomber is so popular among buyers and vacation holiday renters alike. Beachcomber allows and actively promotes a daily vacation rental programme and is one of the most successful on Seven Mile Beach, the property has an onsite manager and other facilities include a fitness suite and underground parking. It should be noted that new purchasers of Beachcomber apartments wishing to take advantage of the rental pool will be required to pay a one time admission fee of US$60k which includes a kitchen and linen package designed to give continuity of service to guests. This fee should therefore be factored into the purchase price for investment buyers looking to calculate return. The location is also very popular as Beachcomber is centrally situated on West Bay Road and offers easy walking to some of Cayman's finest restaurants as well as close proximity to the Fosters supermarket across the road in The Stand.
Adjacent to Beachcomber on its north side is Water's Edge and to the south is The Meridian.

Stingray City 2, Grand Cayman - Christmas cruise
Stingray City 2, Grand Cayman - December 23, 2010. Carnival Conquest Cruise ship.
Helicopter Flight Grand Cayman Island
Take this spectacular opportunity to view Stingray City from a new vantage point. You will take off from the heli-pad and discover the North Sound, a large horse shoe bay with water depths ranging from two to fifteen feet. To your right you will see the east side of the island and the tip of Rum Point as you head towards Stingray Sandbar where the helicopter will circle giving you the opportunity to take photographs of the stingrays. From here you will fly along the Barrier Reef to Stingray City and then across the Island to fly over the Kittiwake to get a fantastic picture of the underwater battle ship off Seven Mile Beach, continue over Seven Mile Beach, flying down the length of the white sandy beach and crystal clear blue waters until you reach George Town. You will enter George Town through the harbor, circling over the cruise ships that are in port before beginning your descent to return to George town heli-pad. We did this flight meanwhile we where at a cruiswe with the Oceania Riviera march 2013

From Olympic pool to shark tank
When he’s not winning gold medals at the Special Olympics, Alec Brice Cox can be found diving inside a predator tank at the Cayman Islands Turtle Centre in West Bay.
Spending hours every day swimming in an enclosed space with sharks may be a terrifying thought for some, but 23-year-old Cox says he’s comfortable with a few friendly nurse sharks and barracudas being his swimming companions as part of his daily work schedule at the centre.
“If we’re talking about a great white [shark], then I’m never going back into a shark tank again,” Cox said.
Last month, Cox swam his way to a gold medal in the 800-metre freestyle at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He also brought home a bronze in the relay and led his Cayman’s swimming team to victory.
But when he can’t be training or competing in a pool, he says, cleaning the predator tank at the turtle centre is the next best thing.
“The environment is very nice, and the people are nice there too. When I’m in the water, I feel free,” Cox said.
Carrying just a microfibre wash cloth and dressed in bright red swim trunks and rash guard, he drops underwater with an air tank on his back and swims to the viewing glass as a large nurse shark glides pass inches from his head. Cox seems unaware of the animal as he begins his job of cleaning algae from the glass. Another shark passes and Cox quickly turns his head to check the shark’s movement. For the next three hours, he carries out his chores.
Lifeguard manager Erin Miller said the biggest threat to Cox and the other divers who do this work is running out of air. “They always have to check their air supply because at 500 PSI [pounds per square inch], they have to surface and have the tanks changed because we cannot take a tank into Divetech at zero [PSI for refilling].”
The sharks and the other fish in the tank are no threat, assures Miller. “We have guys that have been cleaning the tank for over eight years and there have been no incidents,” he said.
Miller said safety procedures are in place if divers do get into trouble – two groundsmen keep a close check on the divers and can get them out quickly if anything goes wrong.
“The sharks usually come very close to the divers but just swim pass. The sharks … are no threat at all … they just mostly suck,” Miller said.
Nurse sharks are bottom-dwellers that are usually found on the ocean’s seabed, where they feed on small fish and crustaceans. Read the full story at caymancompass.com.
Epic STINGRAY CITY ANTIGUA ~ Best underwater & UAV Drone Caribbean ~ WeBeYachting.com
We had the opportunity to visit the Stingray City, where you can snorkel with Southern Stingrays in their natural environment. Located of the coast of Antigua on one of the most beautiful reefs.
With flat, wide bodies, stingrays may not look like fish, but they are!
Stingrays are commonly found in the shallow coastal waters of temperate seas. They spend the majority of their time inactive, partially buried in sand, often moving only with the sway of the tide. The stingray's coloration commonly reflects the seafloor's shading, camouflaging it from predatory sharks and larger rays. Their flattened bodies are composed of pectoral fins joined to their head and trunk with an infamous tail trailing behind. There is 60 species of stingrays around the world.
Some factual information:
1.The largest species of stingray measure 6.5 feet in length and can weigh up to 790 pounds.
2.Stingrays are closely related to sharks.
3.They use this venom to protect them from predators. In fact, Greek dentists once used it as anesthetic.
4. Stingrays eat clams, shrimp, and mussels. Since their mouths on on the underside of their bodies, they catch their prey, then crush and eat with their powerful jaws.
5. While the stingray's eyes peer out from its dorsal side, its mouth, nostrils, and gill slits are situated on its underbelly. Its eyes are therefore not thought by scientists to play a considerable role in hunting. Like its shark relatives, the stingray is outfitted with electrical sensors called ampullae of Lorenzini. Located around the stingray's mouth, these organs sense the natural electrical charges of potential prey.
6. they swing is groups known as schools.
7. Stingrays give birth each year. They can have between 2 and 6 offsprings a year, each which can live between 15 and 25 years in the wild.
8. When they are inclined to move, most stingrays swim by undulating their bodies like a wave; others flap their sides like wings. The tail may also be used to maneuver in the water, but its primary purpose is protection.
9. The stingray's spine, or barb, can be ominously fashioned with serrated edges and a sharp point. The underside may produce venom, which can be fatal to humans, and which can remain deadly even after the stingray's death. In Greek mythology, Odysseus, the great king of Ithaca, was killed when his son, Telegonus, struck him using a spear tipped with the spine of a stingray.
10. Stingrays are totally HARMLESS if left alone, they get a bad rap because on 4 September 2006 Irwin was on location at Batt Reef, near Port Douglas, Queensland, taking part in the production of the documentary series Ocean's Deadliest. During a lull in filming caused by inclement weather, Irwin decided to snorkel in shallow waters while being filmed in an effort to provide footage for his daughter's television programme.
While swimming in chest-deep water, Irwin approached a stingray with an approximate span of two metres (6.5 ft) from the rear, in order to film it swimming away.
According to the incident's only witness, “All of a sudden [the stingray] propped on its front and started stabbing wildly with its tail. Striking within a few seconds”. Irwin initially believed he only had a punctured lung; but the stingray's barb pierced his heart, causing him to bleed to death. The stingray's behaviour appeared to have been a defensive response to being boxed in. Crew members aboard Irwin's boat administered CPR and rushed him to shore. Medical staff pronounced him dead at the scene.
Irwin's death is believed to be the only fatality from a stingray ever captured on video.
Footage of the incident was viewed by Queensland state police as part their mandatory investigations. All copies of the footage were then destroyed at the behest of Irwin's family.Production was completed on Ocean's Deadliest, which was broadcast in the US on the Discovery Channel on 21 January 2007. The documentary was completed with footage shot in the weeks following the accident, but without including any mention of Irwin's accidental death.
AGAIN STINGRAYS ARE TOTALLY HARMLESS IF LEFT ALONE.
We are always glad to hear your comments and cheers from the IGY Simpson Bay Marina in Sint Maarten.

Sunshine, turquoise beaches, palm trees, pastel sunsets, and the stingrays, the Cayman Islands can be quite an appealing destination. The Cayman Islands are a chill destination offering the right amount of adventure and relaxation. Experience
• A blend of American, British, and Caribbean cultures
• Scuba diving, and more scuba diving
• Stingray kisses in Stingray City
• Feeding the hungry prehistoric looking tarpon
• Long walks along the beach, Seven Mile Beach to be exact
• …and a place called Hell? Yes. Read on.
Comprised of three islands: Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac, the Cayman Islands are an Oversees Territory to Great Britain. These three islands are located in the Caribbean southwest to Jamaica, south to Cuba, and east of Belize and the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula.
Little Cayman and Cayman Brac are 75 miles north east of Grand Cayman.
Grand Cayman is a popular stop along the cruise ship route around the western Caribbean.
These islands are also known from the old Tom Cruise movie “The Firm” and for the wealthy to park their assets offshore. Like Bermuda, international banks and other financial institutions and advisories have offices here to support its financial industry.
The islands were uninhabited until the mid-1600s as British explorers from Jamaica arrived and were a colony of Jamaica until 1962 when it became a separate crown colony.
Blend of British, Caribbean, and American
Today the islands have a population of 60,000 with about 3% living on either Little Cayman or Cayman Brac. While the feel is distinctly tropical British and Caribbean, touches of American
They draw many ex-pats from the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Canada who work on the island, whether in financial services, tourism, or the restaurants and bars. Others come from Italy, France, South Africa, Jamaica, and the United States.
One of our favorite Irish pubs on the island is Fidel Murphy’s. Originally it was a Cuban place named Fidel’s. The name Murphy was tacked on to it after it transformed into an authentic Irish pub complete with satellite TV with UK sports channels and Irish draft beers on tap.
At the grocery store, I was pumped to see crumpets, my favorite British breakfast item, for sale. They have other British food brands and treats available too.
In addition, some American touches are on the island from recognized fast food places to well known resorts and hotels.
The downtown area of the island is called George Town, located on the southwest part of Grand Cayman. Souvenir shops, restaurants, and other tourist draws like our scuba shop are located here. It is an active area because of the large cruise ships that anchor just off the shore and their passengers that come to explore.
Escaping away from the crowds, head north east towards Bodden Town and up to the North Side and Rum Point. Along the way, stop off at the less crowded local beaches hidden from the road.
Rum Point has a more laid-back, Caribbean island beach bar feel with wind swept island pines, palm trees, and turquoise waters. Grab some jerk chicken, fried conch, and a frozen margarita at one of the picnic tables on the beach
Grand Cayman looks a bit like a sneaker and Rum Point forms top part of the tongue of this “shoe”. Rum Point is the northern central point of land where the bay meets the Caribbean Sea. The bay is in the form of a horseshoe shape. Its other point is the West End part of Grand Cayman.
Seven Mile Beach
After a visit to Hell, continue down the west coast along the famous Seven Mile Beach, voted the best beach in the Caribbean. This beach is just that, a seven mile stretch of perfect tropical beach with pristine sand and palm trees. The water is calm and at times as flat as glass. Many high end resorts and outdoor beach bars line the way. Taking a stroll you just may see a destination wedding in action by the water’s edge.
The best part though is watching the sunset over the horizon. A gorgeous ombre of pastel pinks, oranges, yellows, blues and more color the sky and reflect on the water.

Coastal Contemporary Villa in Seven Mile Beach, Cayman Islands | Sotheby's International Realty

For more information go to
Villas of the Galleon sits on four hundred and fifty feet of what is arguably the best section of Seven Mile Beach. No trivial matter when discussing a beach that is regularly voted the best in the world, as hotel’s that seek to give their guests the best of everything, both illustrious neighbours to Villas of the Galleon; The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman and The Westin Grand Cayman stand testament to this prime location. Seven Mile Beach is without doubt the best beach the Cayman Islands has to offer, not only for its pristine white sands gently kissed by crystal clear Caribbean waters a “sea of palest em'rald, merging to darkest blue” as the Cayman Islands National Song reminds us, but with its westerly outlook it provides a ring side seat to such spectacular sunsets that even the most staunch atheist might posit the possibility of a divine touch!
Built in 1980 Villas of the Galleon is a beautiful example of the low-rise buildings of a bygone Cayman era where three stories was the allowed building height. Having a two story top unit such as offered at the Villas of the Galleon, which technically created a four storey building would certainly have been viewed as pushing the boundary back in the day, but seems a far cry from the ten stories allowed on Seven Mile Beach now, never mind the talk of Iconic Towers elsewhere within the Cayman Islands. Recently renovated from top to bottom Villas of the Galleon #52 offers the best of both worlds providing what is essentially a brand new, modern apartment, in a low rise low density complex and a two storey home that offers a level of individuality lacking among the more homogenous high-rise apartments. A penthouse corner unit #52 Villas of the Galleon enjoys windows on three sides of the building, a vaulted ceiling and an overall feeling of space and light. #52 holds what is probably the best position in the complex, and the view from the balcony is second to none.
