Stockgrove Country Park

Rushmere Country Park, Heath and Reach, Bedfordshire, England

Rushmere Country park is a heavily wooded area in Heath and Reach, Bedfordshire, England. The park straddles the counties of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

The park is an amalgam of two parks, the former Stockgrove Country Park and the newly acquired Rushmere. The newly enlarged area now covers over 400 acres.

Rushmere Country Park incorporates a largely wooded area, plus grasslands and a small lake. It is popular with walkers with dogs, and has two cafes serving hot food - one at the old Stockgrove entrance and one at the new Rushmere entrance, which also has a visitor centre.

Official opening of the extended National Nature Reserve at Rushmere Country Park

A special celebration event has taken place in the Lower Meadow area of Rushmere Country Park to mark the extension of its National Nature Reserve (NNR) area. Newly designated land around King’s Wood and Rushmere will see its NNR status grow from 87 hectares to almost 150 hectares. This recognises the continued partnership working of adjoining land owners Central Bedfordshire Council, the Greensand Trust, Tarmac and the Wildlife Trust. The newly extended space is home to many rare plants and animal species, such as the Barbastelle bat and Purple Emperor butterfly.
