Stockholm Travel Guide - Sweden Memorable Moments
Stockholm Travel Guide - Sweden Memorable Moments
Stockholm is the capital and largest city of Sweden, with nearly 2 million inhabitants within its vicinities. The inner city is made up of 14 islands connected by some 50 bridges on Lake Mälaren, which flows into the brackish Baltic Sea, and passes the Stockholm archipelago with some 24,000 islands and islets. Stockholm is a cosmopolitan place with both classical and modern architecture, and a captivating Old Town, Gamla Stan.
Despite its northern location, Stockholm has fairly mild temperatures throughout the year. As a result of its northerly latitude, the city sees a dramatic seasonal variation in sunlight, from more than 18 hours of daylight around midsummer, to around 6 hours of daylight in late December.
Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, SL (Stockholm Public Transport) runs an extensive subway, commuter train and bus system as well as some light rail and ferry services, all using an integrated ticket system called SL Access. Stockholm has a metro system called the Tunnelbana, commonly abbreviated T-bana, and symbolised with a blue T on a round white sign. With exactly 100 stations, it is extensive for a city of this size, and will get you around almost all the downtown places as well as many inner suburbs.
Districts of Stockholm :
The inner city
Norrmalm
Norrmalm contains the central business district known as City, with several department stores and shopping malls, museums, hotels and restaurants.
Östermalm
Östermalm is an affluent borough, including Nationalstadsparken, the National City Park. The Stureplan square is a hub for upmarket shopping and nightlife. Södra Djurgården or simply Djurgården is an island-park, with several major tourist venues - the Skansen open air museum, the Gröna Lund amusement park, and the Vasa Museum.
Gamla Stan
An island with great waterfront views, the northern part of the Old Town is dominated by the Royal Palace and the Swedish Parliament.
Södermalm
Södermalm is a rugged island with buildings of all ages. It is always commonly referred to as Söder (The South). Fjällgatan offers some of the best views of Stockholm and the Baltic Sea inlet.
Kungsholmen
Kungsholmen is an island at the western inner city, with Stadshuset (Stockholm City Hall) at its eastern tip.
Suburbs and bordering towns
Western Suburbs
The Western suburbs, Västerort, were built up during the late 20th century. Stockholm-Bromma Airport dominates the area. Vällingby, founded in the 1950s, is one of Europe's first planned suburbs. Solvalla is a prominent horse-race stadium. Kista is an international centre of information technology.
Northern Suburbs
Solna and Sundbyberg, just north of central Stockholm, are two separate cities within the Storstockholm. Danderyd and Täby, to the north-east, are affluent municipality suburbs that can be reached by underground and bus or Roslagsbanan.
Stockholm archipelago
Vaxholm is the gateway to the northern Stockholm archipelago. Värmdö, the largest island, similar to the mainland. Sandhamn, a resort-island in the outer archipelago. Utö, a rural island with an abandoned silver-mine.
Lidingö
Lidingö is a separate city within the Storstockholm (Greater Stockholm) area.
Ekerö
Ekerö in Lake Mälaren is the only Swedish municipality with two UNESCO World Heritage sites: Royal residence Drottningholm and Viking Age settlements Birka.
Southern suburbs
The southern parts of Stockholm municipality, Söderort, is best known for the stadium cluster: Globen the Globe Arena, clearly visible from most of Södermalm.
Södertörn
Södertörn is the peninsula of eastern Södermanland

Stockholm
Stockholm Rocks.
Below is a comprehensive review of my visit with links to many of the attractions below.
I arrived in #Stockholm on three hours sleep. I was jet lagged beyond measure on SAS. After landing at #Arlanda Airport, I decided to take the Flygbusarna bus into town on the Liljeholmen route. It costs 119 #Swedish Krona (SEK) or about $12.60 USD for adults and 109 SEK or $11.54 for youth. I’ll list their website below.
I stayed the Niro Apart Hotel. It was an amazing place to stay. It came with a queen sized bed, sink, dishwasher, Fridge/freezer, ample storage and nice sized bathroom with shower. The going rates go from $90-$107. Look for the feature video coming soon. Check their website below for current rates.
After check in, I obtained my Stockholm Pass which gets you into 60+ attractions across the Stockholm Metro area and the Hop On-Hop Off Bus. The public transportation in the county of Stockholm is regulated by SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik or Stockholm Public Transport). The company offers transport services by bus, subway, tram, train or even boat. It doesn’t matter what means of transportation you choose in your day, they are covered by the same types of tickets. My group was given an SL Access Card which allows for extensive use of the Public system. (see link below).
I walked over to Stockholm’s City Hall or Stadshus. This is a must see for it’s gardens and courtyards. It’s also a great place for some amazing photos. From there, we walked over to the Royal Palace where we were treated to an impromptu violin concert/photo shoot. Moving around the building, we headed over to Gamla Stan or the Old town. Take a stroll along its cobblestone streets and sample meats and cheeses, shop for clothing, souvenirs, and stop for a meal or a beverage in one its outdoor cafes.
That afternoon, I took the subway over to Museum Island. I first visited the famed Vasa Museum which houses one of the oldest ships I can ever recall. Then I briefly visited the Nordic Museum. I was not very impressed with the first few exhibits and quickly left. That’s not to say that you may not like their material. To be fair, I was sleepy and was trying to see as much of Stockholm in the two and half days as I could. Check their website for current exhibits.
Afterwards, I took a train into Centralen (the main Subway station). From there, I explored some of Stockholm’s most chic Department stores and fashionable avenues. I decided to have lunch at Sweden’s McDonald’s called Max. It was quite tasty. I strolled through Kungstradgarden, a spectacular green space/performance space in the middle of Stockholm.
From there, I went back to Fridhelmsplan for a meeting and then went back to the Royal Palace to take a boat on a Royal Canal Cruise. It was so smooth. So if yo have motion sickness of any kind, don’t worry. You won’t feel it. It was covered through our SL Access Card. They also provide narration in several languages through headphones.
Jet lag would catch up to me as I slept through several alarms. It was now noon time and I was in a mini-panic. Got myself and managed to get to Skansen Open Air Museum. This is a combination museum, zoo, aquarium, historical site and entertainment venue. Whether you’re riding solo, with a group of friends or with your family, there is a good time to be had by all. My recommendation is to go on a weekend with more things are open. Although, I didn’t have to jostle with crowds, there were several eateries, stores and attractions that were not open the weekday I went. See more at the link below.
Our final half day, we visited Fryshuset. A grade school that triples as a Community Youth Center and concert venue. Lastly, we visited was to Drottiningholm Palace. It was pretty neat to see so much art, furniture and the like from Sweden’s Royal history. There are also magnificent gardens and a Chinese Pavilion well worth the walk. You can get there by bus/train or by boat.
Stockholm is now one of my favorite world cities to visit and you should check out as well.

Visiting Sörmland - A Stockholm Weekend Break, Sweden | AD
Welcome to beautiful Sörmland – a region filled with nature and gorgeous countryside, just outside Stockholm.
I’ve just got back from an incredible weekend break from Stockholm, visiting a region called Sörmland. Only an hour from the capital, it’s an area known for wild cooking, beautiful serene lakes, castles summerhouses and magical forests.
I’ve visited Sweden several times, but only stepped foot in the cities of Stockholm and Gothenburg. Beautiful cities though they are, I was ready to slow down the pace and head out to the countryside. My Stockholm country break would take me to Gripsholm Slott (castle), Trosa and villages close to Nyköping.
This video has been produced in partnership with Visit Sweden and Sörmland Country Break (Visit Sormland).

48 Hours in Stockholm!
Hi everyone! A few weeks ago we went to Stockholm for a few days and vlogged the whole trip with you to share you some of my favourite spots in the Swedish capital.
1. We stayed at the gorgeous Bank Hotel in central Stockholm right by the water! The building of the hotel - as you can probably tell by its name, has been used as the home of several banks during most of its time. The food at the hotel is delicious (especially the Grapefruit brûlée at breakfast) and the interior is stunning. Its location makes it super easy to get pretty much everywhere in the city by Uber, public transport - or what we did most of the time, foot.
2. Herman’s is a vegetarian all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant with an amazing view over the Stockholm harbour. There was so much to choose from, the food was D E L I C I O U S and it was really affordable - especially considering the great quality you get. We were stuffed after!
3. Gamla Stan is probably one of the most pictured places in Stockholm. Its the old part of town with lots of colourful houses, cobbled streets and a bunch of little restaurants and bars. Gamla Stan is also the home of the Royal Palace and a cathedral and as a big history enthusiast was a must place for me to visit!
4. Le Hibou is the small rooftop bar of the Bank Hotel with a great view over Stockholm. The cocktails (and mocktails!) are super delicious and Nordics inspired. Who needs a Cosmopolitan in Stockholm when you can drink a Reindeer cocktail?
5. On your second day we went for lunch at Taverna Brillo, a lovely Italian restaurant with our friends from By Malina! The place was SUPER packed, which speaks volume for the quality of service and food. We shared the meatball (when in Sweden..) pasta and truffle pizza…. would recommend.
6. For our final dinner we went to Ciccio’s, the best restaurant in Stockholm, on recommendation of our friends at By Malina and we are not surprised it holds that title! The Italian-American based food is absolutely delicious, the ambience in the restaurant is welcoming and comfortable and the staff were outstanding! We let our lovely waiter chose our dishes for us and that way tried a little bit of everything - from antipasti, to pasta and fish! You should definitely book a table at Ciccio’s if you plan on visiting Stockholm - I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
7. Rosendal Gardens were our final stop before having to return to the UK. The place reminds me a lot of Petersham nurseries, with the same rustic vibe. Our visit at Rosendal Gardens officially started Autumn season for me and we celebrated that with yummy soup and more home-made Swedish food!
I definitely want to return to Stockholm during summer and eat fikka (unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to on our last trip) and maybe experience mid-summer?
What are your favourite places in Stockholm? Let me know in the comments below!

Inside stockholm city hall in Sweden on spb tour bus
Stockholm City Hall (Swedish: Stockholms stadshus or Stadshuset locally) is the building of the Municipal Council for the City of Stockholm in Sweden. It stands on the eastern tip of Kungsholmen island, next to Riddarfjärden's northern shore and facing the islands of Riddarholmen and Södermalm. It houses offices and conference rooms as well as ceremonial halls, and the luxury restaurant Stadshuskällaren. It is the venue of the Nobel Prize banquet and one of Stockholm's major tourist attractions.
