Ever stand BEHIND a waterfall, complete with Petroglyph on the rock wall?
Minutes south of Ladysmith's Saltaire neighbourhood is a quiet little creek and waterfall with a beautiful trail, stairs and viewing platform right beside the Trans Canada Trail. But it's only quiet in the summer!
In the rainy season, it is impressive!

Continuing with our waterfalls on Vancouver Island series and our second vlog in Ladysmith, BC, today we visit Stocking Creek Park. We drove to the park from Thicke Road. This is another beautiful rainforest with a creek that leads to the falls. We chose a nice short trail to the falls on this trip since we had taken a longer hike in the morning.
If you are looking for a short, easy hike, with beautiful scenery then Stocking Creek Park offers several winding trails. If you would like to be a little more adventurous like us, you can cross the river, and you can climb down to the falls, so there is some potential for a little more. I know that we have often overlooked Ladysmith as a destination, however the rainforests and waterfalls here are absolutely stunning. In addition it is quite an easy drive from Victoria and makes a nice day trip.
Stocking Creek Park, Cowichan Valley, BC
Beautiful trails and a picnic area make Stocking Creek Park the perfect place for a nature walk. There are many trails meandering through the rainforest that lead to the creek and to the falls.
The Cowichan Valley Trail also runs through the park offering a connection south to Chemainus and north to the Town of Ladysmith. Finch Place offers access to the Cowichan Valley Trail.

Duncan Lake 2016
Duncan Lake in the West Kootenays, BC, is an amazing quadding area. You can travel north along Duncan Lake for about 40km, then another 40 along the Duncan River, and 40?km after that, where you are supposed reach the valley that turns left towards Butters Lake but we didn't do the last 1/3 of the trip. The valley eventually ends up in Glacier National Park but there are no trails up that way. All of this is done in a straight rift valley that goes north-south all day long. The road is excellent, fast and very quiet. We didn't meet any other riders the whole day. From about the 80 km mark (the left turn bridge we turned around at) you can see the Razor's Edge and Mount Templeman. Oh yeah, carry spare gas...

Daytrip to Stocking Creek Park waterfall from Living Forest
Only a 5 minute drive from downtown Ladysmith on Vancouver Island, is Stocking Creek Park with this beautiful waterfall. Right beside the Trans Canada Trail, this 32 acre park has a lot of stairs, but it's less than a mile loop from the parking lot to the main falls.
