Stockport is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, 7 miles (11 km) south-east of Manchester city centre, where the River Goyt and Tame merge to create the River Mersey. The town of Stockport is the largest settlement in the metropolitan borough of the same name.
Historically, most of the town of Stockport was in Cheshire, but the area to the north of the Mersey was in Lancashire. Stockport in the 16th century was a small town entirely on the south bank of the Mersey, and known for the cultivation of hemp and manufacture of rope. In the 18th century the town had one of the first mechanised silk factories in the British Isles. However, Stockport's predominant industries of the 19th century were the cotton and allied industries. Stockport was also at the centre of the country's hatting industry, which by 1884 was exporting more than six million hats a year; the last hat works in Stockport closed in 1997.
Dominating the western approaches to the town is the Stockport Viaduct. Built in 1840, the viaduct's 27 brick arches carry the mainline railways from Manchester to Birmingham and London over the River Mersey. This structure featured as the background in many paintings by L. S. Lowry.
The Manchester orbital M60 motorway and A6 road to London cross at Stockport. Stockport railway station is a mainline station on the Manchester spur of the West Coast Main Line. Stockport is connected with Central London by Virgin Trains with services departing every twenty minutes and also has inter-city services to Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and other major cities. Stockport Tiviot Dale station also served the town centre between 1865 and 1967, lying on routes from Liverpool, Derby and Sheffield. The station site now lies under the M60 motorway.Stockport bus station, which serves as a terminus for many services across the borough, is one of the largest and busiest bus stations in Greater Manchester.

STOCKPORT AIR RAID SHELTER
The abandoned Stockport Air Raid Shelters are a system of almost 1 mile of underground air-raid shelters dug under Stockport, six miles south of Manchester, during World War II to protect local inhabitants during air raids.
Four sets of underground air raid shelter tunnels for civilian use were dug into the red sandstone rock below the town centre. Preparation started in September 1938 and the first set of shelters was opened on 28 October 1939; Stockport was not bombed until 11 October 1940. The smallest of the tunnel shelters could accommodate 2,000 people and the largest 3,850. It was subsequently expanded to take up to 6,500 people.[1]
The largest of the Stockport Air Raid Shelters have been open to the public since 1996 as part of the town's museum service.[1] thanks for the subscribe
Moving trolleybuses at the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester
In December 2018, the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester spent a day moving vehicles to improve displays and position buses in the workshop to receive attention. Two of the most rare and interesting moves were those of our trolleybuses, Manchester and 1250 which have not ventured outdoors for many years.
The moves inside the Museum were performed pushing by hand: the transfer from upper hall to lower hall used our AEC ‘Matador’ tow lorry, itself a Museum exhibit and almost eighty years old.
The moves were steady and careful, bearing in mind both the age of the vehicles and the need for personal safety, so this may not be a spectacular video; but it does capture a very unusual vehicle movement and the first time a trolleybus has been seen on the streets of Manchester for many years.

Stockport Air Raid Shelters
Experience life as it was during a 'black out' in wartime Britain
Opened in 1939, the shelters were the largest purpose-built civilian air raid shelters in the country . Originally designed to provide shelter for up to 3,850 people, they were extended to accommodate as many as 6,500.
This labyrinth of tunnels under part of the town centre provided shelter, and a way of life for families from in and around Stockport through the dark days of the Blitz.
In 1996 Stockport Council re-opened the shelters as a visitor attraction, and the unique award-winning museum is one of Stockport’s best loved attractions.
Carved into the natural sandstone cliffs, the intriguing network of underground tunnels offers visitors an unparalleled insight into life in wartime Britain in the 1940s.
Visitors have the opportunity of learning about the experiences of local people during the war from the displays in the tunnels and from the state-of -the-art audio-guides and to find mementos of the 1940's in our shop. The Stockport Air Raid Shelters are a system of almost 1 mile of underground air-raid shelters dug under Stockport, six miles south of Manchester, during World War II to protect local inhabitants during air raids.

Beautiful sounding PD3 here on shuttles from the Transport Museum - Victoria Station & back on the Christmas Cracker event. This PD3 would've been new sometime in 1968/69. I wasn't providing the commentary in this vid but it was still helpful all the same! :)
