Free speech? Teacher stomps US flag in class exercise, fired by Illinois school board - TomoNews
MARTINSVILLE, ILLINOIS — Martinsville Junior-Senior High School English teacher Jordan Parmenter was fired by the Martinsville School Board on Tuesday in a 6-0 vote.
The board's decision comes following a May 15 incident during which the teacher allegedly used a small United States flag during a lesson on free speech in his classroom.
One of his students reportedly pointed out that the way Parmenter was holding the flag was disrespectful, and the teacher then allegedly dropped the flag on the ground and stomped on it explaining to the class that freedom of speech extends to the desecration of the U.S. flag.
Parents and faculty at the school however, found the free-speech demonstration offensive and Parmenter was placed on leave before the June 29 decision to terminate his employment.
The teacher said he plans to speak to his union representative regarding the board's decision, but had no further comment.
What do you think? Did the school board go too far by firing this teacher? Did the school board cross a free speech line here? Or are they also expressing their freedoms by freely voting to terminate him?

NYPD officers 'beat' homeless man'
A surveillance video obtained and released by a local news website appears to show a homeless man being beaten up by a group of men wearing New York Police Department (NYPD) uniforms.
The man, identified as Ehud Halevi, was allegedly resisting arrest for sleeping in a synagogue outreach centre on October 8.
Local news reports said that the man had obtained permission to stay the night in the centre, and had been sleeping in the space for a month. But the video shows the shirtless and shoeless man being beaten by two officers. He was allegedly also pepper sprayed before being arrested.
On Monday New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind called the alleged beating unconscionable and called for the officers in the video to be suspended.
The NYPD has yet to comment on the incident.

NYO-USA Low Brass Sectional
2019 NYO-USA Faculty Member James Markey, Bass Trombone of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, leads a low brass sectional with NYO-USA musicians.
This summer’s NYO-USA comprises 119 members—ages 16–19 and hailing from 33 US states—who have been recognized by Carnegie Hall as some of the finest players in the country following a comprehensive national audition process. In preparation for its performance activities in the New York area and abroad, NYO-USA will once again work with an impressive list of principal players from many of the nation’s top professional orchestras during its training residency.
Following a return to the Tanglewood Music Festival in Lenox, Massachusetts, Sir Antonio Pappano and NYO-USA take center stage at Carnegie Hall for the orchestra’s annual concert in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The program will include Strauss’s Eine Alpensinfonie and Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été featuring renowned mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard. The orchestra then departs to Europe for debut performances as part of the Young Euro Classic series at Konzerthaus Berlin with mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly, as well as the Edinburgh International Festival and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and a return to the BBC Proms and Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato.

American Flag being thrown away in New York City
During the time I stayed on the streets of New York City last year I was doing a lot of walking around meeting and talking with the Homeless all around the city.
One day I was walking around Manhattan while passing The Fire Fighter Dan DeFranco Building at 204 E 23rd Street, New York, NY I saw something I thought was interesting.
There was a HUGE dumpster on the street and people bringing a LOT of good stuff out of the building and throwing it all in the dumpster.
I thought it was odd because right next door was a Salvation Army store and instead of donating the stuff to the Salvation Army or another charity all that stuff was going straight in the dumpster.
Something else I saw was an American Flag thrown in the dumpster.
There were guys there pulling out stuff from the dumpster and one of them grabbed the flag.
I helped the guy fold the flag properly.
After folding the flag I decided to make a short video about what I saw .
As I was making the video a guy came out of the building and started asking me what I was doing.
I told him, just making a little video.
He quickly said he knew what I was doing it it was an accident that the flag went into the dumpster.
After insisting he would dispose of the flag, he took it and handed it back to the guy who pulled it out of the dumpster and the guy left with it.
I forgot that I had this video after finding it this evening and decided to post it seeing that it is Memorial Day

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the major men's professional basketball league in North America, and is widely considered to be the premier men's professional basketball league in the world. It has 30 teams (29 in the United States and 1 in Canada), and is an active member of USA Basketball (USAB),[2] which is recognized by FIBA (also known as the International Basketball Federation) as the national governing body for basketball in the United States. The NBA is one of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. NBA players are the world's best paid athletes by average annual salary per player.[3][4]
The league was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946, as the Basketball Association of America (BAA).[1][5] The league adopted the name National Basketball Association on August 3, 1949, after merging with its rival National Basketball League (NBL). The league's several international as well as individual team offices are directed out of its head offices located in the Olympic Tower at 645 Fifth Avenue in New York City. NBA Entertainment and NBA TV studios are directed out of offices located in Secaucus, New Jersey.
The NBA originated in 1946 with 11 teams, and through a sequence of team expansions, reductions, and relocations currently consists of 30 teams. The United States is home to 29 teams and one is located in Canada.
The current league organization divides thirty teams into two conferences of three divisions with five teams each. The current divisional alignment was introduced in the 2004–05 season. Reflecting the population distribution of the United States and Canada as a whole, most teams are in the eastern half of the country: thirteen teams are in the Eastern Time Zone, nine in the Central, three in the Mountain, and five in the Pacific.
The Boston Celtics have won the most championships with 17 NBA Finals wins. The second most successful franchise is the Los Angeles Lakers, who have 16 overall championships (11 in Los Angeles, 5 in Minneapolis). Following the Lakers, are the Chicago Bulls with six championships, all won over an 8-year span during the 1990s. The San Antonio Spurs have five championships, all since 1999, and the Golden State Warriors also have five championships overall (2 in Philadelphia, 3 in Oakland).

Chicago 4K - Night Drive - Driving Downtown
Thursday night drive around downtown Chicago. Video starts along the Chicago River along Wacker Drive, continues to State Street, then to the Magnificent Mile Michigan Avenue, passes under the popular Chicago Loop subway network, and completes along the Theater District. Enjoy!
Chicago is the 2nd most visited city in the US, with 58 million domestic and international visitors in 2018, behind New York City's approximate 65 million visitors. Chicago is the third most populous city in the United States. With an estimated population of 2,705,994 (2018), it is the most populous city in the Midwest. Chicago is the principal city of the Chicago metropolitan area, often referred to as Chicagoland, and the county seat of Cook County, the second most populous county in the United States. The metropolitan area, at nearly 10 million people, is the third-largest in the United States.
Located on the shores of freshwater Lake Michigan, Chicago was incorporated as a city in 1837 near a portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed and grew rapidly in the mid-19th century. After the Chicago Fire of 1871, which left more than 100,000 homeless, the city made a concerted effort to rebuild. The construction boom accelerated population growth throughout the following decades, and by 1900 Chicago was the fifth largest city in the world. Chicago made noted contributions to urban planning and zoning standards, including new construction styles (including the Chicago School of architecture), the development of the City Beautiful Movement, and the steel-framed skyscraper.
Chicago is an international hub for finance, culture, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications, and transportation. It is the site of the creation of the first standardized futures contracts at the Chicago Board of Trade, which today is the largest and most diverse derivatives market globally, generating 20% of all volume in commodities and financial futures. O'Hare International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, and the region also has the largest number of U.S. highways and greatest amount of railroad freight. In 2012, Chicago was listed as an alpha global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, and it ranked seventh in the entire world in the 2017 Global Cities Index. The Chicago area has one of the highest gross domestic products (GDP) in the world, generating $680 billion in 2017. In addition, the city has one of the world's most diversified and balanced economies, not being dependent on any one industry, with no single industry employing more than 14% of the workforce.
The city ranked first place in the 2018 Time Out City Life Index, a global quality of life survey of 15,000 people in 32 cities. The city is also home to several fortune 500 companies, the most notable being, Allstate, Boeing, Exelon, McDonald's, Quaker Oats, and United Airlines Holdings. Landmarks in the city include Millennium Park, Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mile, the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum Campus, the Willis (Sears) Tower, Grant Park (Chicago), the Museum of Science and Industry, and Lincoln Park Zoo. Chicago's culture includes the visual arts, literature, film, theater, comedy (especially improvisational comedy), food, and music, particularly jazz, blues, soul, hip-hop, gospel, and electronic dance music including house music. Of the area's many colleges and universities, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago are classified as highest research doctoral universities. Chicago has professional sports teams in each of the major professional leagues, including two Major League Baseball teams.

Japan Day @ Central Park 2014 - Cobu
No copyright intended! Transformative nature unless otherwise!
COBU, based in New York City, was created as a Live Rhythm Performing Arts Group in 2000. Yako Miyamoto, the founder of Cobu, is a veteran member of the Off-Broadway musical STOMP. COBU combines elements of the Japanese traditional Taiko drumming with NY style street dancing. COBU's motto is 'Dance like Drumming, Drum like Dancing,' inspired by the combined sounds of New York and traditional Japanese culture. Their signature sound is created organically through acoustic instruments rather than digital transcription. This juxtaposition of traditional modernity makes COBU a particularly unique and original performing arts group. In 2001, COBU became a recognized beacon of entertainment in the United States, Asia and Europe. COBU has been featured in major venues including Madison Square Garden in NYC. Hollywood movie director, Mr. Duane Adler, developed a 3D film based on Yako Miyamoto called [ Make Your Move / COBU 3D ] which was released in the USA on April 18th, 2014.
