Devon 2015 - Part 23: Stone Lane Gardens / Chagford
Devon 2015 - Part 17: Budleigh Salterton Bicton Park

The Ballad of Mary Whyddon - trailer
Here's a trailer for our Dartmoor Tale set in 17th century Chagford. The real life tragedy on which we based the film is so poignant that over the centuries it has passed from history into legend.
The music is composed by Elizabeth-Jane Baldry
- fairyharp.com
The entire film was shot in just seven days by a team of volunteers, including talented industry professionals who generously donated their time. Lively evenings were spent sharing food, wine and laughter in the historic Church Rooms in which we filmed our interior scenes. One of our set designers even encountered a ghost on the ancient, granite spiral staircase - not once, but twice. Thus real life and cinematic life blended into one magical adventure.

Just Outside Chagford, Dartmoor
May 2013, just outside of Chagford in Dartmoor, climbing Butterdon Down.
A more cheerful legend concerns the rock-capped hills close by my own small village [Chagford]. One of these hills [this hill] rises steeply above the village Commons, a green swath of land where wild mares come down from the moor to give birth in the spring, rabbits congregate at dawn, and neighbors walk their dogs at dusk. The hill was said to be bare of stone until King Arthur stood up on it and challenged the Devil to a hurling match. The Devil stood on a second hill, and quoits were hurled back and forth. King Arthur won and the Devil, enraged, turned those great quoits into stone. The stone tors crown the hills today, watching over the houses below.

Devon 2015 - -Part 25: Dartmoor Postbridge & Widecombe-in-the-Moor
Green Veins & Lanes - An Oral History of Devon Hedges Part 1
A fascinating oral history of how Devon Hedges were looked after and used in times past. As Sue Wheeler, Devon Hedge Group, says Hedge management has changed hugely over the last 70 years or so, and it's really good that we have been able to capture memories of those times, when there were many more people on the land and farming was less mechanised than today.

Initially below the slopes of Hunter's Tor, with Castle Drogo perched high above, then through the woods to Fingle Bridge. You can then return on the other side of the river. A lovely gentle walk, with just a few steps in some places, about 2 hours, depending on how long you stop at the pub at Fingle Bridge ! Or do the reverse route starting and ending at Fingle Bridge, with a stop for lunch or cream tea at Mill End Hotel, just by Dogmarsh Bridge.

Teign Valley Walk 2013
A walk from the Mill End Hotel at Dogmarsh Bridge, Chagford along Two Moors Way beside the River Teign as far as the Teign Valley, then joining the Dartmoor Way to Fingle Bridge where we walk up the Teign Valley by way of the Hunter's Path rejoining the Two Moors Way to visit Drewsteignton.
From here its along the road to the entrance to Castle Drogo and re-joining the Hunter's Path to decendt via the Two Moors Way and back to Mill End Hotel.
I would say about seven miles in all. Refreshments at Drewesteignton although the Drewe Arms had closed down at the time of our visit, however the Post Office services hot drinks and sandwiches.
Castle Drogo offers the usual over priced National Trust fayre and public toilets.
Mill End Cottage serves meals and cream teas, also quite expensive but better value than the National Trust.
