Tettegouche State Park - MN - December 2019
We revisited Tettegouche State Park to see a different cart in Site. Originally we were going to hike and stay on the SHT near Oberg Mountain but the temperature and daylight were dropping fast. Oberg Mountain is near Lutsen and the trail is well groomed. For Skiing or snowshoeing if you prefer.
Most trails surrounding the SHT will be groomed, but as you hike further in you will find that the SHT itself is not well traveled. We decided to be safe and not push our luck with negative temperatures and just hike into a cart in site.
The Cart In Sites started off on a snowmobile trail for a little bit and then were just deep snow. Luckily we had snow shoes. Our favorite site from earlier in the year has been destroyed by the waves and the wind blowing ice and snow over the trees. So much destruction we barely recognized it. We were warned not to stay there as the wind can pick up at anytime and spray water from the lake over the site.
Overall the trip was a success, despite the bone chilling cold. We were hoping to have a warm weekend, seems like we picked the only cold weekend of December for this trip sadly.
After sleeping outside every month for three years I decided I am going take a little break. I will still make videos of my adventures scouting new parks and camping. Just may not go out in the cold as much. Need to play it safe, I want to keep all ten fingers and ten toes.
As always, thanks for watching.

Grand Marais, MN - Day One
This is video from March 22nd, 2016. Spring Break spent in Grand Marais, MN.
Day 1 out of 4
We left around 6:45am to go to Grand Marais. We stopped in Duluth and got lattes at the Duluth Coffee Co. Then we went to the Great Harvest Bakery and hung out in the corner booth. Then we continued on the road. We went to Stony Point Road and saw huge waves that crashed into the shore of rocks. An old man stopped us and decided to teach us how to shoot good pictures of the waves. Oh and we also stopped at a big train track bridge that was above a big river, as it lightly snowed. Then we went to Gooseberry Falls and explored the Upper and Lower Falls. We also (literally) ran to Split Rock Lighthouse very briefly, but it was spectacular. The lake was endless and huge. We arrived in Grand Marais late-ish, just in time for some Sven and Olie's Pizza.

TyAnn L.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Countless Adventures Await You at Leech Lake Rec Area!!
Our family just returned from a 9 day stay at Leech Lake Receeation Area, and wish we could have stayed 9 more!! The Campground is located in north central Minnesota (Federal Dam) about 30 minutes southeast of Bemidji or a 3 & 1/2 hour drive from Minnneapolis/St. Paul, MN area, and is run by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Volunteers. The park is located in the Leech Lake Reservation and Chippewa National Forest.
The park has 77 sites available that you can make reservations online at:
**Note: We reserved our spot 6 months in advance as they book up super fast in the short Minnesota summer months.
There are 73 sites with electric hook ups (5 are full hook ups) or if you want to tent in a private setting, they have 4 primitive walk to sites. Each site has a large picnic table and fire ring with adjustable grill.
When you check in they give you a code that allows you access to the comfort building (flush toilets, showers, and laundry facilities) We took advantage of the boat mooring area (just a few steps down from the campground) that includes a plug in area to recharge our boat batteries, and we really appreciated the fish cleaning station building!! (Super clean!!!)**See pics of the awesome fish we caught-Note all Walleye in the 20-26 inch slot size must be released.
We spent the majority of the time enjoying Leech Lake, but we also spent time hiking the trails (Check out the 400 year old Cedar Tree!!), we played horseshoes, and shuffle board (a new game to us!!), and relaxing by the campfire. **NOTE Only certified & approved firewood can be used in the park. There is a general store just outside the park that sells it for $20.00 a wheelbarrow full.
We would give this campground 6 stars if we could, and know you would too!! Enjoy the pics!!
