Peak Head Walk - Stoney Hill, Albany WA || Sunday Sesh
A very enjoyable walk trail along the Peak Head Track in Albany, Western Australia in the midst of the amazingly picturesque south-west Australian winter.
Surrounded by stunning scenery and fresh air I couldn't pass up the opportunity to practice using a steadicam for the first time. It's safe to say I am quite pleased with the results.

Lugged the case some 500m to the top of Isthmus Hill for some great views. Great morning for flying with light winds approx' 10km/hr.
Nice slow meandering flight at 360' above take off point and stretched out to 1000' before losing video signal as I turned the quad' to face me.

Four sweet lines on one of the most beautiful boulders I've ever laid eyes on! Only one line left to go - psyched.
Rad to watch Ryan push past a mental block to get the tick on the right arete!

Climbing Storm in a Teacup with Zed Colback
A pair of larrikins, Zed Colback and myself, go climb Storm in a Teacup gr21 at sunrise.
This climb is on peak head near Albany, a massive granite dome over the ocean. One of my favourite places for a multi-pitch climb over seacliffs.

Antenna Test, Middleton Beach Albany WA
I finally upgraded the antennas for the Controller, so I headed to the nearest beach for a quick test.
I used a Walkera 5.8ghz LHCP clover leaf for the test running off (the CGO4) camera attached to the landing gear. I will replace this with FatShark LHCP Spiro’ when I make up a mounting bracket for the longer antenna.
iBcrazy 3 turn Helical LHCP 7.5DB mounted on the ST10+ controller. This worked great and I had no video drop out at all during the flight, it has a nice 120 degree beam.
Where I had problems was with the Telemetry data… it was worse than stock! Scratching my head, I soon found out that the Telemetry works off the 2.4ghz and everything made sense.
I had replaced BOTH of the 2.4ghz antenna’s on the ST10 but only had 1 good one with SMA pin and no adaptors for the others I had… so I put on a cheap and crappy one that you’d find on a cheap modem or $1 delivered on eBay… I also tried a 2.4 cloverleaf that was just as bad.
When I swapped the 2.4ghz antenna’s around on the controller for the test flight on the beach, I soon found out which one controls the quad. I only got a few hundred meters before it did a return to home from signal loss! I never lost signal using the better 2.4ghz antenna…
Now I just have to hurry up and wait for the adapters and other 2.4ghz antennas I ordered in to try on a more secluded long stretch of beach for the next test.
About 1500’ or 457m was the best video range performance I got stock, approximately 800+m (on Google Maps) with the upgrade - no signal loss :)

Sifters 1997 Fun
This is the fun part; Randy Stone and I wash the pocket contents. Randy worked the pegmatite with me from 1996-1998. We sifted through tons of buckets of pocket material extracted. Some of the best was saved for tourmaline sand to try and sell to fund raise and the rest was dumped over in the trailer park. For years until they dumped dirt over it the spread out piles still yielded gem pieces that were not washed off well enough to find.Visit our Website at
Amphitheatre Training Days | The Gap, Albany
Footage I've been accumulating during 'training sessions' over the past few weeks out at the Amphitheatre. A good variety of climbing styles and grades on pristine granite with easy access make the Amphitheatre a great place to do a circuit and keep in shape.
Thanks to Connor, Jess, Renzo and Kym for the psych, pads and spots!
