Stony Point Penguin Colony - Betty's Bay - South Africa
Stony Point Nature Reserve is home to one of the largest successful breeding colonies of African Penguin in the world. Stony Point offers the public the chance to see these wonderful flightless birds up close, via the boardwalk through the colony, which allows the public to observe the penguins go about their daily activities in their natural habitat, without disturbing or disrupting them. Also present in the colony are cormorant, which breed on the outer rocks. There are also Gulls, which forage in the colony, while the Rock Hyrax, more commonly known as the Dassie, can be seen on the surrounding rocks.

Jackass/African Penguin Colony at Stoney Point, Betty's bay
Jackass Penguins or African Penguins are a species of flightless bird found only on the southern African coast. Colonies of African Penguins are located on several offshore islands and nests can be found in only three spots of South Africa's mainland. One of these areas is Stony Point at Betty's Bay in the Overberg. It is therefore vital that colonies of Jackass Penguins are protected.

Penguin Waddlers Hermanus to Stony Point.
The penguin waddlers started day 3 in high spirits..ready for the 24 kilometers to Arabella-close to Kleinmond. The not too flat road took its toll on the leg muscles, but some of them still had energy to spare... Tomorrow they're off to the Stony Point penguin colony at Betties Bay- The penguin waddlers must surely look forward to meet family and friends...!!
