All of Ireland’s international amateur golfers and practically all of our present day professionals have played in the West of Ireland Championship.
Three times Major Champion Padraig Harrington won his first senior title at the West of Ireland in 1994, while Rory McIlroy was the youngest ever winner of the West in 2005 at the tender age of 15, and made it a double by winning again in 2006.
In 2008 Shane Lowry claimed the coveted title. A year later he became only the third amateur to win a European Tour title when he captured the ‘3’ Irish Open at County Louth Golf Club in Baltray, turning pro shortly after.

Strandhill, Co.SLIGO 2018
Strandhill is situated at the western base of Knocknarea on the Cúil Irra (Coolera) peninsula in Sligo Bay, 5 miles west of Sligo town, and is Atlantic facing. Although the main part of the village lies within the townland of Strandhill, it also extends into the townlands of Killaspugbrone and Carrowbunnaun. The area is well known for surfing.
Strandhill's surrounding areas include the mountain of Knocknarea, Coney Island, Culleenamore beach, and Dorrins Strand. Much of the terrain consists of marram – covered dunes, and the local council has had to undertake various measures throughout the years to combat coastal erosion.

Explanation:
I had two other channels, one is still there but the second is in the process of going if not gone (depends when you watch this).
I tried to keep work and personal vlogs separate but it got too confusing even for me so I've decided to merge everything together.
I've included the date to help with watching them in order.
I'm currently re uploading some older videos to this my main channel.
Apologies for the confusion, unfortunately youtube can't merge channels of views and its too difficult to keep my vlogs separate between work style vlogs, holiday vlogs, weekly vlogs etc.
Apologies also as some vlogs maybe unlisted (sorry, they may be made public in due course, they contain footage of people who I can't show at the moment, children whos' parents prefer their children not be online and I totally respect this view.)

Enniscrone Golf Club, Co. Sligo, Ireland
Enniscrone Golf Club
Situated in County Sligo, on the remote western coast of Ireland, where the quality of golf is matched by the surroundings…sits one of Ireland’s best hidden gems, Enniscrone’s Championship Dunes Course. Dating back to 1918, Enniscrone’s dream was finally realized in 1974…with Eddie Hackett’s design of The Dunes course; which was marvelously renovated in 2001 by Donald Steel. Strong winds from the Killala Bay, coupled with firm, elevated greens…will challenge golfers of all skill levels and demand accuracy with each club in the bag. With the spectacular Ox Mountains lining the background, twelve holes wind through the largest dunes on the coast; adding a sense of remoteness and serenity…until you reach the final four holes bordering the Atlantic Ocean…which make for a truly exhilarating finish on this spectacular Irish links.

A centenarian with all the dignity and maturity of age, this is one of Ireland’s great championship links. The course is one of golf’s great challenges and the level of difficulty varies with the diverse weather conditions experienced. The course was redesigned by the famous golf architect Harry S. Colt in 1927 and continuous improvements have been made over the years to make the County Sligo course, in the words of the great Peter Alliss:
“A tremendous test for the highest quality player and great fun for the modest competitor, Rosses Point stands at the very top of the list of Irish courses”.
The spectacular scenery of mountain, ocean and countryside which surrounds this classic links has been immortalised in the poetry of William Butler Yeats.
The course is currently ranked in the top 10 list of Irish Golf courses and features in the top 50 in Great Britain & Ireland and was honoured to be chosen as the 2011 venue for the SENIOR & JUNIOR INTERPROVINCIALS, the HOME INTERNATIONALS and the CARR MARA TROPHY.
The club is the home of the famous West of Ireland Open amateur championship played every Easter since 1923 and has hosted many other prestigious events including the Home Internationals, the Irish Close and the Irish Professional Matchplay Championship. Previous winners of the West include Joe Carr, Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

#StrandhillMoments - Heritage moments in Strandhill, Co.Sligo
Just in time for Heritage Week, we are delighted to launch the final video in our #StrandhillMoments series. This one celebrates the abundance of in history and heritage here on the Strandhill Coolera peninsula.

Carrowmore Megalithic Site
Carrowmore is the largest group of megaliths in the country and the second largest in Europe, making it a must-see when visiting the Strandhill/Coolera area. For Heritage Week, don’t miss Music at the Megaliths on Sunday 25th August from 10.30am - 4.30pm. More info:
Killaspugbrone
The ruins of this ancient church stand on the extremity of the Coolera peninsula and the name in Irish means “the church of the Bishop Brón”. Killaspugbrone church dates back to the period between 1150 and 1220, but the original structure was reputedly built sometime in the fifth century.
Its former name “Caisle-Irrae” suggests it was most likely enclosed by a circular stone fort or cashel – typical of an early Irish monastic settlement. Follow the Killaspugbrone Looped Walk Trail which will bring you past the Church. More info:
Queen Maeve’s Trail, Knocknarea
This relatively new walking trail takes walkers up the northern slopes of Knocknarea, past Megalithic and Bronze Age remains, and the cairn where it is believed Queen Maeve is buried, on through Coillte forests along a raised boardwalk or ‘bog bridge’ to the summit. Along the route are abandoned and derelict stone cottages, with stories to tell. On a clear day, from the summit you can enjoy wider views stretching as far as Nephin in Mayo and Slieve League sea cliffs in Donegal.
Dolly’s Cottage
Dolly’s Cottage was erected around the year 1800 and has survived without alteration to this day. When the late Dolly Higgins died in 1970, the Strandhill Guild of the Irish Countrywomens’ Association bought her thatched cottage in order to maintain it in its original state. By 19th century standards in the west of Ireland, this was a luxury cottage. It was built of stone (not mud), with a proper chimney and fireplace (not a hole in the roof to let out smoke from a fire in the middle of the floor). It has two rooms and the old pouch bed is still in the chimney corner. The walls, roof, fireplace and loft beams are still the originals. Check out the Warrior Scarecrow Festival taking place for Heritage Week.

Cummeens Strand and Coney Island
Cummeen Strand is the wide sandy tidal plain on your right as you travel from Sligo to Strandhill. Residents who frequent this route from town to the village are blessed to be presented each trip with such a stunning vista: the roadside giving way in an instant to a wide breadth of land and sea and harbour, Coney Island the idyllic object of the scene and the painter’s inspiration of Rosses Point glinting with its seaside charm in the morning sun, or hazy sunset, or at night the orange lights shining over Cummeen Strand giving the appearance of a huge ship parked in Sligo bay.
Cummeen Strand was immortalised by the poet W.B Yeats in his poem Red Hanrahan’s Song about Ireland with the lines:
‘The old brown thorn-trees break in two high above Cummeen Strand
Under a bitter black wind that blows from the left hand.’
The Cummeen tidal strand is divided in two by fourteen stout cut stone pillars.
This part of Cummeen is called Dorrin’s Strand after William Dorrin, the owner of Coney Island in the 1820s. He was drowned by the fast rush of the incoming tide while returning to the Island along the strand in March 1823. Provided the tide is low, the fourteen pillars guide travellers by the safest route the one and a half kilometres to Coney. It is always of the utmost importance a visitor to Coney checks tide times before departure.
