DETROIT (MY HOMETOWN) AS I REMEMBER HER...
FEATURING:
Trumbull General Hospital-Downtown Detroit-where I was born.
(It was also used to design the Addam's Family house for the old T.V. show)
Carstens Elementary (Kindergarten thru 6th grade)
We were given sugar cubes with the oral polio vaccine on it on the stage of Carstens auditorium. (We also were tested for T.B. at school as well) (No parental permission required in those days!)
Andrew Jackson Jr. High (7th thru 9th grade)
Edwin Denby High School (Driver's training at age 16)
Cass Technical High School (10th thru 12th grade-graduated in 1972)
Monteith Public Library-my neighborhood library and within walking distance for me...even as a little child!
Detroit Historical Museum...loved trips to that museum...especially getting to go downstairs and see the old lamplit recreations of Detroit streets!
Main Library on Woodward Avenue
Detroit Institute of Arts (across Woodward Avenue from the main library)
Ford Rotunda (burned down shortly after our school took our classes there on a field trip)
Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum...I especially loved the real Dutch windmill...moved there from Holland...and loved stepping back in time!
Cruising to Bob-Lo Island on the big boat. Went once with my class as a little kid...later, as a teenager, took the midnight cruise with my church youth group.
Old Fort Wayne on the Riverfront. I believe at one time or another it was held by the French, the British, and the Americans in turn!
Michigan State Fair...went there a few times...my parents loved going there!
The Detroit Zoo...pretty, but I always felt so sad for the animals caged there...
Gratiot Drive-In Theatre...Great fun in the summer...had heaters for Fall/cold weather viewing...!
Belle Isle in the middle of the Detroit River between the U.S. and Canada. Visited the Conservatory...the Dawson Great Lakes Museum, and skated once on the frozen canal on the island. My parents loved taking Sunday rides to Belle Isle!
We would often go to Lakewood Park to watch the freighters passing through the shipping lanes on the Detroit River. Very relaxing...and sometimes the ship captain would blow the big horn for the kids on shore.
Cobo Hall/Arena...went to a couple of Garden shows there...and one car show. And as a teenager, went with my church youth group to hear Dr. Jack Van Impe preach on a Saturday night!
I remember when the Detroit Tigers won the World Series in 1968...Denny McLain was the winning pitcher.
I only went to Metro Beach once...as a teenager...and planned to have a fun time. But my Dad came early to pick me up...and let me know that my brother had been wounded in Viet Nam, and I was needed at home. I never did go back to Metro Beach.
My Dad enjoyed driving us through Indian Village...several beautiful blocks of Victorian homes and perfectly manicured lawns. The homes were lovely to look at and I always wished to live in one someday.
Every now and then, on a crisp Autumn day, we would drive to either Yates or Franklin Cider Mills for some delicious, freshly pressed cider and warm homemade doughnuts. Those two simple foods were an exquisite combination!
We lived on Detroit's East Side...not too far from Grosse Pointe. We loved riding along Lakeshore Drive with the Detroit River/Lake St. Clair on one side of us and beautiful mansion-like homes on the other.
I loved going over to Windsor, Ontario, Canada...and Sudbury...and other nearby Canadian destinations. We could cross the Detroit River by either the Ambassador Bridge or the Tunnel under the river. I hate heights...so we almost always went by way of the tunnel. When we crossed on the bridge, I always kept my eyes closed until we reached the other side.
And finally, the stores our family patronized (not counting grocery stores...):
Woolworths, 7-Mile and Mack shopping center (which contained J.C. Penneys, Lerners, and others), Cunningham Drugs, Eastland Mall, Arlans, Atlantic Mills, E.J. Korvette, Federals, Jupiter, S.S. Kresge, Macomb Mall, Downtown Detroit stores for the rare shopping trip, Montgomery Wards at 7 Mile and Gratiot, Neisners, Spartan, Topps, K-Mart, Sam's and Crowleys.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Edmonton ( (listen); Cree: ᐊᒥᐢᑲᐧᒋᐊᐧᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ; Blackfoot: Omahkoyis) is the capital city of the Canadian province of Alberta. Edmonton is on the North Saskatchewan River and is the centre of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region, which is surrounded by Alberta's central region. The city anchors the north end of what Statistics Canada defines as the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor. The city had a population of 932,546 in 2016, making it Alberta's second-largest city and Canada's fifth-largest municipality. Also in 2016, Edmonton had a metropolitan population of 1,321,426, making it the sixth-largest census metropolitan area (CMA) in Canada. Edmonton is North America's northernmost metropolitan area with a population over one million. A resident of Edmonton is known as an Edmontonian.Edmonton's historic growth has been facilitated through the absorption of five adjacent urban municipalities (Strathcona, North Edmonton, West Edmonton, Beverly and Jasper Place) in addition to a series of annexations through 1982, and the annexation of 8,260 ha (82.6 km2) of land from Leduc County and the city of Beaumont on January 1, 2019. Known as the Gateway to the North, the city is a staging point for large-scale oil sands projects occurring in northern Alberta and large-scale diamond mining operations in the Northwest Territories.Edmonton is a cultural, governmental and educational centre. It hosts a year-round slate of festivals, reflected in the nickname Canada's Festival City. It is home to North America's largest mall, West Edmonton Mall (the world's largest mall from 1981 until 2004), and Fort Edmonton Park, Canada's largest living history museum.
