See full blog post -
In this video, I take you along on a day trip with my beagle and I as we explore Strathcona Provincial Park. The oldest BC park established in 1911.
You'll see footage of our drive there and through the park and of our hikes to three gorgeous waterfalls. I also show you clips of three RV campgrounds and some scenic pullouts. The video ends with a still photo slideshow from the day.

Lupin Falls trail | Strathcona provincial park | Vancouver Island
Lupin Falls trail is located approximately 70 Km from Campbell River. Both of which are on Vancouver Island. It's nestles along side of Buttle lake. The walk to Lupin Falls trail is as picturesque as the falls themselves. A quick 5 minute walk gets you to the scenic view of the waterfalls which is approximately 100 ft high. Once you cross the highway to the trail head you have to two options. The right trail is pretty with streams and a hill to climb, but the left is shorter and it's faster, but not nearly as picturesque.

Myra falls Vancouver island | Strathcona Provincial Park
Myra Falls Vancouver Island, is located in Strathcona Provicial Park,
Hi again and welcome to another video on photographing waterfalls on Vancouver Island. Watch as I hike and photograph Lower Myra Falls in Strathcona Provincial Park. Myra Falls is what I consider, one of the best falls on the Island, it is one of my favorites. It has several cascading waterfalls, a great spot to go swimming, and if you're the adventures type with a little work, you can climb down the hill to the lake to take pictures. I recommend visiting Myra Falls if you are in the Strathcona Park area.

Vancouver Island - Strathcona Provincial Park On a Spring Day
Two days on Vancouver Island only scratches the surface of what can be experienced.

Landslide Lake - Strathcona Provincial Park - Vancouver Island
Hi internet friends,
This video is in Strathcona Provincial Park, Vancouver Island.
We hiked Elk River Trail, which is 22km round trip and we did that in a day on May 27th, 2018.
Elk River Trail brought us to Landslide Lake nestled at the base of Mt Colonel Foster, the 4th highest peak on Vancouver Island. An earthquake in 1946 caused a slide which created the stunning backdrop in this video. This side of the mountain is also one of the tallest continuous mountain faces in the world (surpasses El Capitan in Yosemite!). Pretty spectacular and very special, if you ask us ????

Camping in Strathcona Provincial Park: Buttle Lake Campground
For show notes click on the link above
Over the last week we took 4 days to go camping in Strathcona Provincial Park. It is a great way to escape from it all because there is no cell service or electricity, so it is super rustic.
It was a beautiful four hour drive from Victoria to get to the park. You will be super roughing it at Buttle Lake campground, this is not glamping. There are pit toilets and water pumps to pump your own water. Roughing it was totally worth it, because steps from our campsite we had the most incredible, breathtaking views, 365 degree views.
We took in a lot of small hikes from the campground including Elk River Lookout Point (unfortunately we didn't see any elk during our entire trip), the Wild Ginger Trail, Lady Falls and Lupin Falls.
I highly recommend the paddle boarding from Strathcona Lodge. The scenery is gorgeous and the rates are incredibly reasonable.
Our last day there, the smoke from the forest fires on the mainland rolled in. Four days later, they are still with us here on the island. I think I´ve hear it said that we are experiencing the worst forest fires in B.C. that we have had in the last 60 years. So you can see the smoke in this vlog.
I think we will make Strathcona a yearly tradition for our family, but I am sure next year Tiame will remember to bring the poles for her tent! ;)
Thanks for watching. Let me know the best kept secrets in your area. I would love to know for when we come to visit.
Namaste, Melissa

Hiking Paradise Meadows to Cruickshank Canyon - Strathcona Park BC
Music: Weed by Chillwalker
Hiking gorgeous Paradise Meadows in the Forbidden Plateau region of Strathcona Provincial Park, British Columbia - Early morning -2 C. Afternoon 24 C. Sunny all day.
Strathcona Provincial Park, designated in 1911, is the oldest provincial park in British Columbia. Located almost in the centre of Vancouver Island, Strathcona park is a rugged mountain wilderness comprising more than 250,000 hectares.
Mountain peaks – some perpetually mantled with snow – dominate the park. Lakes and alpine tarns dot a landscape laced with rivers, creeks and streams. Summer in Strathcona is usually pleasantly warm, while winters are fairly mild except for the higher levels, where heavy snowfalls are the norm.
From November through March, snowfalls can be expected on the mountain slopes and alpine plateaus. Snow remains all year on the mountain peaks and may linger into July even at moderate elevations. Summer evenings, as elsewhere in the coastal regions of B.C., can be cool and rain can be expected at any time of the year.

Hey guys on this episode I’ll be taking you through the hike from Raven Lodge to Forbidden Plateau on Vancouver Island, Canada.
The hike begins at the top of Mount Washington, when you see the ski hill you’ll continue past it further up the mountain to Raven Lodge. The lodge itself is off to the right of the start of the hike but this is the starting point. Here we see the map, the raven lodge is in the top right, forbidden plateau is so far away it isn’t even on this map. For the first night we are sleeping at McKenzie Lake not to be confused with Helen Mackenzie lake which isn’t that far from the start.

lower myra falls strathcona provincial park | Vancouver Island
Lower Myra falls Strathcona Provincial Park - A week before it snowed in Campbell River BC we had a cold snap, minus 10 Celsius yes! that is cold for Vancouver Island. The snow came and came, not that light fluffy stuff no, heavy and wet. So we packed our camera gear, put the truck in 4 wheel drive and headed out to one of my favorite spots Myra Falls.
We had fun, as you can see in the video so much fun in the snow at Myra Falls, it was such a captivating time but after 3 hours we were wet to the bones.
