A Walk Around Baltic Railway Station, St. Petersburg, Russia
St. Petersburg-Baltiysky is a railway station in St. Petersburg, one of the busiest railway stations in Russia by volume of suburban traffic.
The station was modelled by architect Alexander Krakau after Gare de l'Est in Paris. Construction started in 1854. The station was opened on 21 July 1857 as the Peterhof railway station.
The station retains a glass roof over the terminal platforms and is flanked by two-storey wings. The left one used to be reserved for members of the Russian royalty who went to their palaces in Strelna, Peterhof, Oranienbaum. A glass panel on the façade still features the original clock, designed by Pavel Bure, a celebrated watchmaker to the tsar and the ice-hockey players' ancestor.
In 1872, after the railway line was extended to Reval (Tallinn), the Peterhof railway station was renamed to its present form. In 1931–32, the station was reconstructed. A nearby vestibule of the Baltiyskaya Metro Station was opened in 1955. Since 1933, the station has been used to handle suburban communications only.

Strelna train station. Trains used to be the main means of public transportation connecting St. Petersburg with its suburbs. Now, with 1000's of marchrutkas (mini-buses) and ever-expanding underground Metro train system, barely anyone is using these trains anymore.

At least 10 dead in Russian blast, second bomb defused
An explosion in Russia's second-largest city on Monday killed at least 10 people.
CNN reported that 11 people are dead, while other news outlets say 10 have died.
A second bomb was reported to have been defused following the first blast.
Russian state media reported that one person was behind the attack, although authorities initially believed there to be two suspects.
There have been no arrests in the manhunt so far.
At least 39 are hurt, with several in critical condition, after a blast that took place at around 2:30 p.m. local time, according to Russian state media and confirmed by Russian governor's spokesman. Some of the victims are children, although it's not clear if they are among the dead.
A member of the Investigative Committee said the blast is an act of terrorism, and Interfax said two people are being sought, one for planting the explosive device on the train, and one for second device that was defused.
Russia's health minister, Veronika Skvortsova, said seven people were killed at the scene. Another died in an ambulance heading for a hospital and two others died at the hospital.
The blast took place near the Sennaya Ploshchad metro station, on board a metro train between the Sennaya Ploshchad and Tekhnologichesky Institute stations, two metro stations that are located in the center of the city. The train was traveling through a tunnel when the explosion occurred.
A member of Russia's National Antiterroism Committee said an unidentified explosive device caused the blast.
A second device was found at the Revolutionary Square metro station but was deactivated, Russia's Anti-terrorism Committee said in statement. That device had been rigged with shrapnel and contained more than two lbs. of explosives, according to the Associated Press.
A video shows the damaged side of a metro car, shouting and people responding to the incident.
All metro stations have been closed and the people evacuated, Tass reported.
A second video purports to show a part of the station after the attack, with people walking around in a smoke-filled hall.
There were earlier reports of two explosions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had been in St. Petersburg earlier Monday but is in a nearby city of Strelna. He was supposed to meet with the president of Belarus later in the day.
Russia's Prime Minister Dimtry Medvedev called the incident a terrorist attack and said, All those who were injured in the terrorist attack in St Petersburg metro will receive all the medical help they need. All instructions have been issued to the health and emergencies ministries. My most heartfelt commiserations go out to the friends and relatives of the victims of the explosion. This is our common pain.
The U.S. embassy in Russia said in a statement: Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families as authorities work to aid those affected and determine the cause of this incident.
President Donald Trump said the deadly bomb blast was absolutely a terrible thing.
In response to the apparent terror attack, France announced it was boosting its security efforts on public transporation in the Paris metropolitan area.
Russia is no stranger to terrorism. Andrey Karlov, the Russian ambassador to Turkey, was shot and killed in an art gallery in Ankara, Turkey, on Dec. 19, 2016. The gunman shouted, Do not forget Aleppo! after the assassination, which was caught on photos and video and quickly spread through the internet worldwide, before being shot and killed himself.
The public transportation system has been targeted by terrorists before.
Most recently, two suicide blasts in two days killed more then 30 and injured more than 62 in Volgograd in December 2013. The same city was targeted in October 2013, when a female suicide bombed killed six people aboard a bus.

Malaysia condemned the explosion in Russia, which rocked the metro system in the country's second city, Saint Petersburg, which left at least 10 people dead.
Datuk Seri Mohd Najb Tun Razak described it as a heinous act, which claimed innocent lives.
The Prime Minister, who is on a six-day visit to India, tweeted from New Delhi - extending his condolences to the families of those affected.
In the blast, 50 others were injured.
Authorities are not ruling out the incident as an act of terror, which occurred at the technological institute metro station’s platform at 2.40 pm local time.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was holding a meeting near Saint Petersburg, in his official Strelna presidential palace when the incident took place, said, he was considering all possible motives for the blast, including terrorism.
Initial probes revealed that the blast may have been caused by a bomb filled with shrapnel that was left in a briefcase, in one of the train's carriages.
Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee, says it has found, and deactivated a bomb at another metro station, in St. Petersburg revolutionary square, hours after the incident.
Authorities have now closed all metro stations in the city.
