Alice Springs - The Biggest Little Town in Australia
A Promotional documentary on Alice Springs. 2012
ALICE SPRINGS NT AUSTRALIA PART II OF II
Alice Springs is a town in the Northern Territory of Australia. Its population of 28,178 (2001 Census) makes it the second-largest settlement in the Territory (the only other towns of significant size are Darwin, the capital, and Katherine). Originally named Stuart, the town was established almost as a frontier settlement for north-south travel by camel trains through the desert of the outback. A telegraph station was placed near a permanent waterhole called Alice Springs (see photograph) after the wife of Sir Charles Todd, Postmaster General of South Australia, after whom the Todd River (which is usually dry) was named. The Ghan railway from Adelaide reached Stuart in 1929, and the town moved away from the waterhole, but locals kept the name. In 1933, after much debate, the town of Stuart was officially renamed Alice Springs. The north-south road between Darwin, Alice Springs and Adelaide is still called the Stuart Highway. WIKIPEDIA«

Alice Springs Info:
Alice Springs is the third-largest town in the Northern Territory of Australia. Popularly known as the Alice or simply Alice, Alice Springs is situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre.
The area is known as Mparntwe to its original inhabitants, the Arrernte, who have lived in the Central Australian desert in and around what is now Alice Springs for tens of thousands of years. The name Alice Springs was given by surveyor William Whitfield Mills after Alice, Lady Todd, wife of the telegraph pioneer Sir Charles Todd.
Alice Springs had an urban population of almost 24,000 at the 2016 Census; it accounts for approximately 10% of the population of the Northern Territory. It is nearly equidistant from Adelaide and Darwin.
The town straddles the usually dry Todd River on the northern side of the MacDonnell Ranges. The surrounding region is known as Central Australia, or the Red Centre, an arid environment consisting of several different deserts. Temperatures in Alice Springs can vary dramatically, with an average maximum in summer of 35.6 °C (96.1 °F) and an average minimum in winter of 5.1 °C (41.2 °F).

AUSTRALIA - Round Tour - Perth - Port Augusta - Alice Springs - Uluru - Olgas - Kalgoorlie – Perth
The footage for this film was recorded in Sep-Oct 2014, and this edit-version is from May 2018.
The 8750 km and other distances reported were my estimates based on Google Maps information. The real length of the journey was 9766 kilometres however, with an average of 250 km per day.
So apparently there was 1016 km more local driving than already taken into account in the estimate.
The total length in time was 39 days, from 20th of September until 28th of October 2014.
