Places to see in ( Elba Island - Italy ) Campo nell'Elba
Campo nell'Elba is a comune on the island of Elba, in the Province of Livorno in the Italian region of Tuscany, located about 140 kilometres southwest of Florence and about 90 kilometres south of Livorno.
Campo nell'Elba is an Italian town of 4 845 inhabitants in the province of Livorno and the Island of Elba. It is a scattered municipality because the municipality is made up of several inhabited centers, today municipal districts : the capital is Marina di Campo . In the municipal territory are also included the island of Pianosa , the islet of the Scola and, since 1927, the Scoglio d'Africa . In the westernmost part of the municipality extends the Costa del Sole , which contains some of the most famous and beautiful places on the island.
During the Middle Ages, under the Republic of Pisa , with the Comune de Campo were indicated the two hill towns of San Piero in Campo and Sant'Ilario in Campo . The present inhabited area of Marina di Campo arose in the course of the following centuries near the plain (in Latin campus ), formerly called, due to its peculiarity as a wetland, Maremma dell'Elba . The village, called Port'i Campo , developed around the Torre di Marina di Campo , certified since 1596 , and the small church of San Gaetano da Thiene . Nearby is the ancientchurch of San Mamiliano , probably a protoromanico and documented from the fourteenth century , which preserves some bony relics of the saint.

Andrea Francolini exhibit at Hotel Ilio on the Island of Elba
Against the tides is the title chosen by Milanese photographer Andrea Francolini, who has been living in Australia since 2000, for his exhibit dedicated to the marine industry. The emblem of the exhibit, which can be seen at the Boutque Hotel Ilio on the Island of Elba from June 1st to October 15th 2008, is, not coincidentally, the Opera House and Nomadess yacht. Francolini, born in the early 70s, studied in the United States and Switzerland. After starting out his career in the graphic design sector, he went on to work all over the world. He now specializes in yachting photography and his images are published throughout Europe, North America, Australia and the South Pacific Islands. He has covered a number of important sailing events worldwide, including the Route du Rhum, the Whitbread Race Around the World, the Volvo Ocean Race, the Louis Vuitton Cup, among others. Francolini photographs the sea, aquatic events, sports, portraits, resorts and travel images. His work fits perfectly with the spirit of the Boutique Hotel Ilio.

Places to see in ( Vasto - Italy )
On Abruzzo's southern coast, the hilltop town of Vasto has an atmospheric medieval quarter and superb sea views. Much of the centro storico (historic centre) dates from the 15th century, a period in which the city was known as 'the Athens of the Abruzzi'; it's also distinguished as the birthplace of the poet Gabriele Rossetti. Two kilometres downhill is the blowzy resort of Vasto Marina, a strip of hotels, restaurants and campgrounds fronting a long sandy beach. About 5km north of town along the coast is the beautiful Spiaggia di Punta Penna and the Riserva Naturale di Punta Aderci.
In summer the action is on the beach at Vasto Marina. In the old town, interest revolves around the small historic centre, with its landmark Castello Caldoresco, located on Piazza Rossetti, and the low-key Romanesque Cattedrale di San Giuseppe. The Renaissance Palazzo d'Avalos hosts four museums, including the Museo Archeologico. The first thing you will appreciate on arriving in Vasto are the beautiful panoramic views over the Adriatic sea, over the lovely golden beaches and towards the Punta della Penne harbour and lighthouse.
Above the sea, on a hillside, Vasto has a charming medieval old centre whose centre is the marvellous Piazza Rossetti with the impressive Caldoresco Castle. The original parts of the castle date back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The Palazzo d'Avalos is another key sight. You can visit the palace as it is now home to the Museo Civico Archaeologica. Be sure to also visit its pretty Neapolitan-style garden. Not far away is the Cattedrale di San Giuseppe which has a simple Romanesque facade. The rest is newer as it was rebuilt following destruction during a Turkish raid in the 16th century.
Wandering through the narrow alleyways is a pleasure (and offers some relief from the hot sun) and reveals many churches and mansions and also various Roman excavations. After exploring the old centre head for the beach. It is about a 15 to 20 minutes walk downhill from the ancient centre of Vasto and is a welcome spot to cool off in the gorgeous turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea.
On the coast the Vasto Marina is a popular holiday destination and has lots of hotels and camp sites along the edge of the beach. This is a nice spot to enjoy lunch or to have the almost obligatory afternoon ice-cream. Whilst thronging with people in July and August the marina and beaches are fairly deserted outside of the main season.
Further along the coast is the promontory of the 'Punta d'Erca also known as the Punta Aderci, a beautiful, unspoilt area of rocky coastline popular with divers. The area is a protected nature reserve. You can see the wonderful 'trabocchi' here. These are traditional fishing platforms used for fish and prawn fishing along the coast. Outside of the main season you can enjoy the coastline and trabocchi and barely see another person.
The old part of the town (centro storico) features a number of buildings and churches dating from the 12th-18th centuries, including:
Vasto Cathedral (Cattedrale di San Giuseppe)
Church of Santa Maria Maggiore (it), the largest and oldest (mentioned in a document as early as 1195) church in the town, with a quite tall bell tower. Damaged by the Turks in 1566, and by a fire in 1645, it received a thorough restructuring in 1735 in which it got the current shape. It hosts one of alleged Jesus' crown of thorns (Sacra Spina).
Castello Caldoresco
D'Avalos Palace (Palazzo D'Avalos) and the Musei Civici
Below the hill on which the town is located, the beach resort town of Marina di Vasto offers a large sandy beach and several hotels and other facilities.

Tenuta delle Ripalte - Elba Island
There is a special place on the Elba Island where time has stopped and where visitors can relax and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings, and avoid the noisy tourism that unfortunately is typical of holiday resorts today. This quiet corner of the island remains practically untouched by man: an island within the island.
The splendid landscape of this area is very difficult to describe. The deep reds of the earth contrasts with the green of the pine trees creating an ever changing prospective that must be seen to be believed. The estate is surrounded by 12km of coastline. The sea is a shade of light, diaphanous blue that is almost unreal. Its cliffs are home to one of the largest colonies of herring gulls in Italy.
