Irish Adventures: Climbing Sugar Loaf Mountain
This 501 m (1,644 ft) mountain is often simply known as the Sugar Loaf (Irish: Ó Cualann). It is located in the east of County Wicklow, in Ireland, south of Bray and Dublin and to the north of the Glen of the Downs Nature Reserve. It is also known as the Big Sugar Loaf.
We spent the afternoon climbing this into the clouds and saw a lot of sheep and mud on the way.

Microadventures Ireland | Episode #1 | Sleeping on the Sugar Loaf
First part of the Microadventures Ireland Series following Irish Outdoor Blogger Derek Cullen as he ventures in search of the best places in Ireland for a weekend or midweek micro adventure.
In episode one, I took the DART train from Dublin City Centre to Bray before hiking to the foot of the Great Sugar Loaf in Wicklow. I left town at 3pm and arrive at the summit just before sunrise at 7pm. It cost $8.40 including the train ticket, food and accommodation.’
Note on the best way to get to the Sugar Loaf from Dublin without a vehicle. Ideally, you should either take the train to Bray before jumping on the 145 bus from Bray Main Street to Kilmacanouge and walking from there. Alternatively, the 145 bus travels from Dublin to Kilmacanogue but you will need to change buses in Bray to reach the correct junction.
Dangers - Walking the country road can be dangerous. Make sure you know the protocol and safest way to walk on a country road as this is dangerous for both yourself and drivers.
Note on Camping - Ensure you know have warm gear wild camping in Ireland or even just hiking Ireland and are prepared for every weather conditions. Education is everything when camping or hiking in the wild but even some basic knowledge is worth seeking.
Leave now trace - Please take everything back with you when enjoying outdoors Ireland and if possible, make an effort to pick up the litter left by others.

Today we were visited Great Sugar Loaf.
The Great Sugar Loaf (Irish: Ó Cualann or Beannach Mhór), also known as the Big Sugar Loaf and often as simply the Sugar Loaf, is a hill in east County Wicklow in Ireland.
The mountain is located between Delgany and Kilmacanogue, and just to the north of the Glen of the Downs Nature Reserve. The smaller Little Sugar Loaf lies across the N11 road, to the east.
Though only 501 metres (1,644 ft) high, the Great Sugar Loaf's isolation from other hills, steep slopes and volcanic appearance makes it appear much taller than it is. Due to its height relative to the surrounding landscape, the hill qualifies as a Marilyn.
The Great Sugar Loaf is composed of Cambrian quartzite, in contrast to the rounded mountains to the west, which are made of Devonian granite. Popularly mistaken for a volcano, it is in fact an erosion-resistant metamorphosed sedimentary deposit from the deep sea.
