Suginohara Ski Resort
With the longest run of 8.5km in the whole of Japan this Myoko ski resort is a must visit.
Myoko Suginohara 8.5km run
Myoko Suginohara boasts the longest ski run in Japan (roughly 8.5 km) - the snow wasn't that great, and parts of the run were quite icy and hard.
Cruising the Suginohara park Myoko Japan 2019.
The Myoko area of Niigata lies to the south of the prefecture in some serious snow country. On average, Myoko receives a colossal 13-metres of snow each year - more than anywhere else in the region. Off-piste access is unrivalled and, unlike other resorts, tree skiing is allowed, so expect dreamlike runs between snow-laden birches. Myoko is a must for powder seekers but also recommended for the stunning views and long runs. Already popular domestically, the area is becoming increasingly popular with international snow fans who desire a more authentic Japanese ski experience than Niseko in Hokkaido.
The Myoko area is made up of 5 ski resorts that are linked together by shuttle bus. The main ski area is Akakura Onsen which is made up of two resorts side by side; Akakura Kanko and Akakura Onsen. Suginohara ski resort features super long cruisy groomers and good side country, Seki Onsen is renowned for steep and deep tree skiing, Ikenotaira Onsen has good freestyle fun, and family-friendly slopes.
There’s something for everyone across the Myoko Kogen ski resorts although the area is most well known amongst powder hounds for the treed slopes, off-piste riding and long vertical. Some of the Myoko ski resorts also have epic side country and backcountry opportunities. Of course, Myoko Kogen is also famed for the abundant snowfall which results from its proximity to the Sea of Japan.
