Japanese Iris Festival and Bridal Boat - Suigo Itako Ayame Matsuri and Yomeiribune 水郷潮来あやめまつり
Suigo Itako Ayame Matsuri is an Iris Festival from late May to late June to celebrate the blooming of iris flowers (ayame). On Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the festival they have yomeiribune - bridal boat - which is a traditional wooden sappa boat used for fishing and transportation.
The yomeiribune recreates traditional weddings of the area where the bride and her parents are transported down the canal to meet the groom on the river bank before being taken off in a rickshaw by a singing rickshaw puller. The brides are actual brides not actors.

This historic flower festival has been held annually since 1952.
Approx. one million iris plants of 500 varieties are grown in the site,
and the best time to visit is around June 10. During the festival you
can enjoy many events seen only in Itako, for example, “The Marital Sending”that is an rowboat a real bride is boarding, and “Ayame Dance” which is an original dance show. Every year lots of local people and visitors from far come and enjoy the atmosphere of riverside area as well as the beautiful flowers.

The 66th Suigo Itako Iris (Ayame) Festival has been held in Itako city, Ibaraki Japan. I watched Iris in full bloom and joined a cruise on a hand-row boat. I had a luxurious time feeling early summer breeze.

Iris Festival at Mōtsū-ji
Mōtsū-ji (temple) is a newly designated UNESCO World Heritage site as of June 2011.
30,000 irises in 100 varieties are in peak bloom for the temple's iris festival from late June to early July.
The 800-year-old temple gardens were designed to represent the idealized Buddhist Pure Land.

The two characters you'll be introduced to in this short movie are an Itako and an Oni.
A little bit of context:
Itako are what can be considered in Western cultures as blind spirit mediums. Two very distinct characteristics of the Itako are the facts that they all female and all of them are blind. After a period of intense, excoriating, and (in all honesty) inhumane training they gain the ability to speak with the Spirit World. Itako were much more prevalent and relevant in more ancient times but as of today there remains only 2-3 living practitioners.
Oni can be considered demons, ogres, orcs, and anything akin to that in Western Cultures. Oni are largely mythological creatures featured in several folktales and legends. They're typically portrayed as large, fat, humanlike creatures with red, blue, or orange skin and spiral-like horns atop their heads. They're known for being short tempered, violent, immoral, and not very bright. In ancient times the Oni were treated as real and dangerous beings, but of course in modern times they've been dismissed as pure fantasy and have been pushed into the realm of commercialized caricature.
There has never been a recorded instance of an Itako and an Oni ever meeting.

動画はあやめまつり期間中のメインイベント「嫁入り舟」。幸せいっぱいの花嫁さん（一般から応募）が、あやめ園から舟に乗って花婿さんの元へと向かう。

ハナショウブ、水郷彩る 潮来あやめ園
あやめまつり開催中の潮来市の水郷潮来あやめ園は８日、天候にも恵まれ、大勢の観光客でにぎわった。
ハナショウブが見ごろ間近となり、現在５部咲きで、既に紫や白、黄などの花が咲き競う一角も見られる。
観光客はカメラを構えたり、花を楽しみながら食事する姿も。
思い思いに、水辺のしっとりとした風情を味わっていた。
あやめまつりは23日まで。
市観光商工課は「これから会期いっぱいは花が楽しめそう」としている。
