水前寺成趣園・ 熊本 Suizenji-Park Kumamoto JAPAN
Suizenji Jōju-en is a Japanese garden located within Suizen-ji Park 水前寺公園 in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. The main tsukiyama is a representation of Mount Fuji. Lord Hosokawa Tadatoshi began construction of the garden in 1636 as a tea retreat. The park was named after a no-longer-extant Buddhist temple called Suizen-ji, and now hosts Izumi Shrine, where members of the Hosokawa family are enshrined, and a Nōgaku-dō, a Noh theater. Lord Hosokawa selected this site because of its spring-fed pond, which clean water was excellent for tea. The thatched Kokin-Denju-no-Ma teahouse was originally in Kyoto's Imperial Palace, but was moved here in 1912, and the garden has been declared by the national government a historic site of scenic beauty.
The garden reproduces the 53 post stations of the Tokaido, the important road, which connected Edo with Kyoto during the Edo Period, in miniature form.

Suizen-ji Jojuen Garden represents the 53 stations along the Tokaido Road traveled during the Edo period from Kyoto to Tokyo (then Edo). Tadotoshi, the third lord of Hosokawa began its construction in 1636 and it took around 60 years to complete.
Although very scenic and serene, my particular highlight was watching a gardener meticulously prune every single itsy-bitsy pine needle by hand. Particularly, since I come from the pruning school of loping off branches!

Lake Ezu stretches from the center of Kumamoto City in a southeast direction for 2.5km and has a perimeter of 6km, and the area is admired as a natural park with underground water. The lake is divided into upper and lower parts where you can enjoy activities such as nature walks, cycling and boating.

Visited Kumamoto castle which was closed to the public because of the damage caused by the 2016 earthquake, also went to the Suizenji garden which was beautiful and saw a hungry heron on my way there... :) The last seconds are from the entrance hall of my
amazing guesthouse in Kumamoto, where Ghibli films lullabies were always playing...

Die Erstellung des Gartens geht auf das Jahr 1636 zurück. Die damals herrschenden Hosokawa Fürsten liessen ihn über die Dauer von 80 Jahren erstellen.
