Trailhead: Banff Upper Hotsprings parking lot.
This easy trail switchbacks its way up Sulphur Mountain and offers unparalleled views of the Bow Valley. Upon reaching the top, hikers can continue along the 1 km interpretive boardwalk to the Cosmic Ray Station (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Sanson Peak, where Norman Sanson used to live and take meteorological readings. If you like, save your knees and take the gondola down.
Sulphur Mountain is a mountain in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains overlooking the town of Banff, Alberta, Canada.
The mountain was named in 1916 for the hot springs on its lower slopes. George Dawson had referred to this landform as Terrace Mountain on his 1886 map of the area. Sanson's Peak was named in 1948 for Norman Bethune Sanson who diligently attended the observatory recording equipment atop Sulphur Mountain for nearly 30 years.

I stay at Tunnel Mountain Village 1 campground, hike Sulphur Mountain, and get some shots along the Bow River. Hope you enjoy!

Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain in HD, Alberta, Canada
A video showing a hike up Sulphur Mountain, and then riding the Banff Gondola on the way down.
On the way up you'll see a snippet of the trail, a waterfall, and some wildlife. At the top, you'll see amazing 360 panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains, the Town of Banff, the Banff Springs Hotel, and the weather station on top of Sanson's Peak. On the way down is footage of the gondola ride, showing the view once again.
BANFF GONDOLA - Sulphur Mountain Gandola
Banff Gondola is located just 5 minutes from the Town of Banff, on the shoulder of Sulphur Mountain, in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. The 360 degree view from the upper gondola terminal, view-decks and Summit Ridge interpretive boardwalk, is unsurpassed. Safely seated in 4 passenger gondola cabins, visitors are transported in 8 minutes to the summit at an elevation of 2,281m (7,486 ft) above sea level.
8 minute gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain is a unique complex of visitor services including restaurants, gift shop and numerous outdoor observation decks.
You can encounter the local wildlife including Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, Golden mantled ground squirrels, Hoary marmots, Clark's nutcracker and the Canada (Gray) jay.
From the gondola station take the 1 km boardwalk and 367 steps to Sanson's Peak.

Visited in summer but had winter sceneries. With fluffy white clouds which allowed us to intermittently peek into the valley, fresh powdery white snow but without biting cold temperatures and wind, this is heaven on earth.

C'est en gondole que nous sommes montés au sommet du Mont Sulphur (voir vidéo
La journée est radieuse, le ciel est clair, tous les éléments sont réunis pour nous donner l'opportunité de profiter au maximum de tous les panoramas exceptionnels que l'on peut observer du haut de ce sommet.
Une terrasse d'observation nous permet d'avoir une superbe vue panoramique de la ville de Banff, l'hôtel Fairmont Banff Springs et son terrain de golf, la vallée de la rivière Bow ainsi que sur les majestueuses Montagnes Rocheuses.
Une passerelle en bois, d'une longueur de 600 m et ayant 375 marches, permet d'atteindre l'observatoire météorologique du Pic Sanson situé à une altitude de 2337 m.
On retrouve plusieurs belvédères ainsi que des panneaux d'interprétation tout au long de ce parcours qui offre d'ailleurs des points de vue sensationnels sur cette magnifique région.
On retrouve également au sommet une boutique et quelques restaurants.

Sulphur Mountain is (2 451m) a mountain in Banff National Park in Canadian Rocky Mountains overlooking the town of Banff, Alberta, Canada
Hiking Sulphur Mountain East Trail, Banff National Park
One of the few summit hikes in Banff National Park that is open most of the year for hiking. I tackled this trail in early May so there is still some snow in shaded areas and at higher elevation. The east trail starts at the upper hot springs parking lot. The trail constantly gains elevation through a series of switch backs though a forested trail. The end is a beautiful view and a facility with restaurants, information displays, gift shop and viewing area. Follow me as I take you up the trail, show you around the facility and visit the peak.
For members of your group or family who do not want to hike the trail the gondola departs just below the trail head parking lot. Give yourself 3-4 hour head start!.

If you’re anything like me, when you hear “Banff, Alberta” – you automatically think gorgeous crystal-clear turquoise glacier lakes and stunning mountain backdrops. While that’s most definitely true in the warmer seasons, Banff is breathtaking during the frozen winter season, too.

Just finished our tour at the top of Sulfur Mountain in Banff National Park in Canada. This is a video of the ride down from the top on the Gondola. I highly recommend taking the ride to the top as the views of the beautiful mountain ranges and Bow valley from the top cannot be beat.
