Yoshimune Tokugawa (1684-1751), the 8th Shogun of the Edo Shogunate planted the first cherry blossom trees.
There are currently approx. 640 cherry blossom trees. Enjoy an approx.
1 km row of cherry blossom trees along the both sides of the Sumida River together with the view of the Tokyo Skytree.

Okawabata River City 21, Tsukuda, Tokyo 「大川端リバーシティ21」
During the Bubble period (from late '80s to early '90) this tsukuda area was developed and thereby became a fashionable and expensive town. A lot of high-rise buildings you see here were built. If you sit along the Sumida River and look up at those buildings, you may feel you were in a foreign country, not in Japan.
Incidentally, the beautiful bridge you see first is the Chuo Ohashi. Its shape is also very modern.

Cherry blossoms in full bloom in Tokyo park
(3 Apr 2017) Hundreds of people joined together to celebrate the start of spring under Tokyo's cherry blossom trees on Monday, as the Japanese capital reached peak bloom.
At Ueno Park, students, families and businessmen alike took time out from their work day to feast and celebrate together, following an age-old Japanese tradition.
The park boasts 800 cherry blossom trees with more than 50 varieties, attracting millions of visitors each year.
Among the most popular cherry blossoms, known as sakura in Japanese, are the pastel pink somei yoshino, and the willowing shidare.
Japan's Meteorological Agency marked Tokyo's full bloom on Sunday, but the optimal viewing period lasts little more than a week before the petals start to fall away.
For many in Japan, the hanami flower viewing season is also a reminder of new beginnings - a new school year and a new fiscal year.
University sophomore Takafumi Nakano says he marks the start of each school year by celebrating with his classmates.
For some, the short-lived petals offer a different memory.
Tan Shi, who studies Japanese painting, says cherry blossoms remind her of the fierce competition and years of studying that were required before she was eventually admitted into art school.
Cherry blossoms across Japan are expected to reach full bloom in the coming weeks.

【4K】Tokyo Sumida river straight walk for treadmill
Not a vlog, no intrusive faces or talking, pure Japan only.
After long time I filmed straight walk without looking around specially for treadmill as some people asked. Walk is going from Kayabacho to Asakusa mostly along Sumida river. In one place I had to pass through city to cross smaller river.
Same time I tested Audiotechnica mic I bought recently. It has better stereo separation but it also catches sounds behind including my breath. There is also low pass filter that can hide breath sounds better but I need to test how sound changes in general.

This video starts around the same area as the Metropolitan Shioiri Park part one video posted before. This was taken at night just outside of Metropolitan Shioiri Park walking towards Skytree.
This is about a fifteen minute walk from Ushida (Tobu Skytree Line) or Keisei Sekiya stations.
Sumida River Disco with a Mirror Ball Car
From November 23 to 25, spectators were able to gaze at a large ‘mirror ball car’ at the art and music event ‘Sumida River Disco with a Mirror Ball Car’, which took place at the Sumida River Terrace. Designed by Tatsu Nishino, the ‘mirror ball car’, an actual car decorated with hundreds of small mirror fragments, turned into a dazzling artwork suspended by a crane. The rotating and light-reflecting piece of art was first displayed in 2013, but this year was the first time being exhibited above Sumida River.
