Kobe's Nada district is one of Japan's best sake, or rice wine, producing regions. It has long been famous for its sake due to the availability of high quality rice, suitable water and favorable weather conditions for sake production in the area. Being close to Kobe Port and Osaka, physical distribution has also been facilitated since old times.
Many sake breweries operate in the Nada district, which spreads over approximately three kilometers east-west. Some have a store and/or exhibition room open to the public, and allow guests to taste their sake. Some of them also contains a museum, where the process of sake brewing is displayed.

Japan Trip: Cherry Blossoms at Daigoji Temple in Kyoto, Kyoto09 Moopon
Daigoji (醍醐寺), located in Kyoto, Japan, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Famous for its five storied pagoda, cherry blossoms in the spring, and of course, its traditional Japanese garden, Daigoji Temple is not only an important temple in the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism, but a designated Special Place of Scenic Beauty and is part of the “Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto.” The large temple is located in the mountainside southeast of central Kyoto. Due to the vastness of the temple, its grounds encompass the entire mountainside. At the base of the mountain, visitors will find the main temple grounds. Other temple buildings are located near the summit of the mountain and can be approached via a hiking trial. Visitors will first see the Sanboin after they enter the main temple grounds. The Sanboin is the former residence of the head priest. The original construction took place in 1115. The building was reconstructed and expanded in 1598. It remains an important symbol of the extravagant Momoyama architecture. In addition, there is a beautiful traditional Japanese garden. The Sanboin garden was designed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi who held famous cherry blossom parties here at Daigoji Temple. The garden’s designs match the red maple trees which is a favorite for visitors.
Daigoji Temple has many events throughout the year. Among the most famous is the Godairikison ninno’e, also known as “Godairiki-san.” It is held on February 23rd every year. At the festival monks are empowered by Godai Myo’o (5 great powers) pray for peace, health and happiness of the country and its people. Having a long history, the origin goes back to 907, during Emperor Daigo’s time.

Life in Japan - Searching for Fireflies
Summer is just around the corner, the greenery is fully grown and it is warm and humid - that's what fireflies like :) These insects can give a spectacular show after sunset, so we wanted to see them. Last Saturday we went to search for fireflies around Sumiyoshi River. Well, we didn't see any spectacular lights exhibit but it wasn't a wasted time either!
Have you ever seen fireflies?

[MATSURI] Wajima Taisai Day 1 - Okutsuhime Jinja Taisai
***Special Educational Series about the Wajima Taisai (Wajima Grand Kiriko Festivals) of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan*** by Walter Tsushima
The Wajima Taisai is one of the largest summer festivals in Ishikawa Prefecture and takes place in the Noto Peninsula region of the prefecture. The portable shrines, or mikoshi, are accompanied by 5-10 meter tall festival lanterns called, Kiriko that are carried through the town streets as the locals perform traditional kiriko festival music, or Kiriko matsuri-bayashi. At the festival climax, a special bonfire, or Taimatsu are lit by the sea and blessed Shinto strips of white paper, or Gohei, are scrambled after by the brave. The Kiriko of Wajima are especially distinctive because of their magnificent lacquered coatings and decorative designs.

Ashiya River in Ashiya, Hyogo Ken
This Ashiya River in Ashiya. t's a very beautiful and exclusive area. This is a river flowing to the ocean. This is accessible from the JR Ashiya Station. You will have to walk to the west I believe. When you exit the main entrance of the department store it's in turn left and keep straight. You will run into it.
