Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine - Osaka ᴴᴰ ● 住吉大社 大阪
► Osaka's most famous shrine by far, is Sumiyoshi Taisha (Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine) - founded in 211, and the headquarter of some 2000 Sumiyoshi shrines throughout Japan. It enshrines three gods that have long been worshiped for protecting the nation. The shrine's symbol, the gracefully arched Taiko-bashi bridge, spans the pond in front of the shrine.
It's a great place to visit, and offers a nice, peaceful contrast to the otherwise more noisy neighborhoods of Osaka. - Enjoy!

JAPANESE NEW YEAR! SUMIYOSHI TAISHA - Osaka, Life in Japan, Vlog Ep 26
We went to Sumiyoshi Taisha (shrine) in Osaka for the new year visit to a shrine, as most of the Japanese people do on January 1st. Surrounded by nature and other historical buildings, the atmosphere was amazing. We were also welcomed by a lot of Japanese food stands (street food) to fill our appetite.

I went round Sumiyoshi Taisha shrine on Hattatsu Mairi day.

Located in the outskirts of Osaka city, Sumiyoshi Taisha, also known as Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine is actually one of Japan’s oldest shrines. Founded in the 3rd century, Sumiyoshi Taisha displays a unique style of shrine architecture, called Sumiyoshi-zukuri, that is free of influence from the Asian mainland.
Being the main and most famous of over 2000 other Sumiyoshi shrines across Japan, Sumiyoshi Taisha enshrines the god, or Kami, that protects travelers, fishermen, and sailors at sea and as such often are found close to ports and harbors.
One of Sumiyoshi Taisha’s other famous features is its beautiful Sorihashi Bridge, which creates a unique high arch over a pond and as well as one of Japan’s most visited temples during Hatsumode or the first visit to a shrine on New Year.

Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine Osaka || Vlog || Osaka
Osaka's Sumiyoshi Taisha ( Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine) is one of Japan's oldest shrines. Founded in the 3rd century before the introduction of Buddhism, it displays a unique style of shrine architecture, called Sumiyoshi-zukuri, that is free of influence from the Asian mainland. Only two other shrine architecture styles are also considered purely Japanese: Shinmei-zukuri as seen at the Ise Shrines and Taisha-zukuri as seen at Izumo Taisha.
One of Japan's most renowned shrines, Sumiyoshi Taisha is the head of approximately 2,300 Sumiyoshi shrines throughout Japan. At the beginning of each year, more than 2 million worshippers visit the shrine to pray for health and prosperity in the coming year.
Encompassed by natural beauty, the shrine grounds overflow with spiritual spots offering a profound sense of history, such as the Sorihashi arched bridge (Taikobashi) - an emblem of Sumiyoshi Taisha - sacred trees over 1,000 years old, numerous cultural properties, and the main shrine hall, which is a designated national treasure.

I finally arrived in Osaka around Christmas time, walked around its busy streets at night... I also visited a quiet shrine complex which is one of the biggest and oldest of the city. It is famous in Japan for its unique architecture as it was built prior to the arrival of Buddhism in the country - through the Chinese -, and is one of the oldest spiritual sites in Japan.

Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine is one of the oldest shrines in Japan, located near the Sumiyoshi Taisha station on the Nankai line, southern Osaka Prefecture, Japan. This is also considered as the main and most famous of over two thousand Sumiyoshi shrines found across Japan.
The place is known for its iconic beautiful bridge called Sorihashi Bridge. A famous steeply arched bridge at the entrance towards the shrine. This bridge is also known as Taikobashi.
Sumiyoshi-taisha in Osaka
Sumiyoshi is a place with two beautiful sights just near each other. Turning left out of Sumiyoshi Taisha station will take you to the grand shrine -- the main Sumiyoshi shrine in Japan.
