St Mawes (Cornish: Lannvowsedh) is a small town opposite Falmouth, on the Roseland Peninsula on the south coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It lies on the east bank of the Carrick Roads, a large waterway created after the Ice Age from an ancient valley which flooded as the melt waters caused the sea level to rise dramatically. The immense natural harbour created is often claimed to be the third largest in the world. It was once a busy fishing port, but the trade declined during the 20th century and it now serves as a popular tourist location, with many properties in the town functioning as holiday accommodation.[citation needed] The town is in the civil parish of St Just in Roseland.
A year-round ferry provides a service to Falmouth, which is less than a mile away by boat, but due to its proximity to the Fal estuary it is some 30 miles (48 km) away by road. The Place Ferry links the South West Coast Path and operates from Good Friday to the end of October.

We have a look round Henry VIII's artillery fort at St Mawes. It formed part of the King's Device programme to protect against invasion from France and defended the mouth of the River Fal. This henrician castle dates from 1542 and has a clover leaf design.

Visited st mawes in Cornwall on one of the hottest summers on record. Must have been about 30'C. Utterly lovely place to visit, probably bore most teenagers but nice place to get a sandwich and coffee and the beach / sea were spotless.

On a flying visit to Cornwall I got a chance to fly my Drone at Portscatho, St Mawes, Trewithian Farm and St Anthony Head. The weather could have been a little better for drone flying, but the results are not too bad and I had the chance to pay my respects to an old friend and visit a few more others.

St Mawes
The picturesque south facing harbour village of St Mawes, on the eastern side of the Fal Estuary, has long been one of Cornwall’s most desirable and exclusive destinations. At the southern end of the unspoilt countryside of the Roseland Peninsula, it is nevertheless readily accessible to the port of Falmouth and the Cathedral city of Truro.
St. Mawes is centred around its small stone harbour and has its own beaches, sailing club, castle and a handful of good pubs and restaurants, including of course, Olga Polizzi’s Hotel Tresanton, which continues to lure the rich and famous. It offers a superbly varied and accessible sailing area, with a full programme of village regattas, club races and various national championships.
