Monaco is an independent City-State bordered by France on three sides with the Mediterranean Sea forming the fourth boundary. It is the second smallest sovereign state in the world. It is governed by a constitutional monarchy. Treaties with France provide for its defense. The origins of the territory that is now Monaco dates back a 6th Century BC Greek colony referred to as Monoikos. Over the centuries the land that is today Monaco has been sold, occupied and controlled by wealthy families, royal families as well as the countries of France, Italy and Germany. Throughout its many historical transitions, this tiny sovereign nation has made its mark as a playground to the rich and famous owing to its natural beauty, wide direct access to the sea and its status as a tax haven for the wealthy.
The locale of Monte Carlo allows for the entire geographic diversity of Monaco to be experienced within its borders. Monte Carlo begins at the base of the Maritime Alps and ends in the Mediterranean Sea. The Monte Carlo Quarter includes the world-famous Place du Casino, the casino that in most eyes is Monte Carlo. Although it is true that this world-renowned gambling center recognized from James Bond movies epitomizes the word Monte Carlo, it really is only one of the many experiences that make Monte Carlo a fabled destination.
Monte Carlo is home to Hôtel de Paris, an architectural delight that has been providing guests with luxury accommodations since 1863. Currently operated by SBM, who also own and operate four other hotels within the Monte Carlo quarter, the Hôtel de Paris, is a regular on the Conde Nast Traveler Gold list.
As much as Monte Carlo is thought of by many as a place to soak in the sun with exotic cocktails on the French Riviera and gamble at the world’s most famous casino, Monte Carlo is also home to Master Chefs, who prepare traditional Mediterranean cuisine as well as International Haute Cuisine. The Master Chefs of Monte Carlo are joined by Sommeliers who are curators of wine cellars stocked with gold medal champagnes and wines from throughout the world.
The Hôtel de Paris is home to notable dining and libation experiences including a favorite of Prince Rainier III, Le Louis XV Restaurant, holder of three Michelin Stars and reviewed as one of the top 5 restaurants in the world. Opened in the iconic Hôtel de Paris in 1987, this restaurant features a wine cellar with over 400,000 bottles of the world’s finest wines.
Within the boundaries of the Monte Carlo Quarter are Café de Paris, the Salle Garnier, home to the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Monaco’s only public beach, the new convention center, Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort, as well as more than four dozen hotels offering a variety of accommodations.
Most of the Circuit de Monaco is within the boundaries of the Monte Carlo Quarter, the famous raceway of the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix. Monte Carlo is also the host to Championship Boxing, the European Poker Tour Grand Final, the World Backgammon Championship, the Monaco International Auto Show, fashion shows and other high-profile signature events.
When visiting Monte Carlo on the French Riviera, a variety of sightseeing tours are available from small group day tours to private yacht cruises. When visiting Monte Carlo, a sightseeing tour is in order if only to get an overview of all there is to do in this world-renowned playground. Although small in land size, Monte Carlo is jammed packed with centuries of history, astounding architecture, cultural diversions, museums, gardens, as well as world class shopping including neighborhood specialty boutiques.
Tourist attractions that will amaze include Princess Grace Botanical Gardens, Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Saint Nicholas Cathedral, Oceanographic Museum, Chapelle Sainte Devote, Monte Carlo Harbor and over five dozen other points of interests throughout this small yet expansive section of the legendary country of Monaco.
Tourists enjoying the summer sun in Monaco
(25 Jul 2018) LEAD IN
Holidaymakers are enjoying the summer sun in the tiny independent state of Monaco.
Among the attractions, the daily Changing of the Guard at the Prince's Palace.
STORY-LINE
Known for its casinos, yachts and glamourous lifestyle, Monaco is a glittering jewel on the French Riviera.
Income tax was abolished here in the 1800s, so the tiny country is a honeypot for millionaires.
The famous Monte Carlo Casino has even appeared in three James Bond movies.
Tourism is important for driving the local economy.
In 2013 visitor figures reached an all-time high of nearly 600,000, according to the Monaco Government Tourism Office.
One attraction happens daily. At the Prince's Palace, at the stroke of 11.55am (local), there's the traditional Changing of the Guard.
Monaco has been targeting China, Russia and Brazil in recent years in an effort to bring more tourists to the city state.

Monte Carlo, Monaco on A Beautiful Day
Monte Carlo, Monaco on A Beautiful Day
Monte Carlo officially refers to an administrative area of the Principality of Monaco, specifically the ward of Monte Carlo/Spélugues, where the Monte Carlo Casino is located. Informally the name also refers to a larger district, the Monte Carlo Quarter (corresponding to the former municipality of Monte Carlo), which besides Monte Carlo/Spélugues also includes the wards of La Rousse/Saint Roman, Larvotto/Bas Moulins, and Saint Michel. The permanent population of the ward of Monte Carlo is about 3,500, while that of the quarter is about 15,000. Monaco has four traditional quarters. From west to east they are: Fontvieille (the newest), Monaco-Ville (the oldest), La Condamine, and Monte Carlo.
Monte Carlo (literally Mount Charles) is situated on a prominent escarpment at the base of the Maritime Alps along the French Riviera. Near the quarter's western end is the world-famous Place du Casino, the gambling center which has made Monte Carlo an international byword for the extravagant display and reckless dispersal of wealth. It is also the location of the Hôtel de Paris, the Café de Paris, and the Salle Garnier (the casino theatre which is the home of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo).
The quarter's eastern part includes the community of Larvotto with Monaco's only public beach, as well as its new convention center (the Grimaldi Forum), and the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort. At the quarter's eastern border, one crosses into the French town of Beausoleil (sometimes referred to as Monte-Carlo-Supérieur), and just 8 kilometres (5 mi) to its east is the western border of Italy.

DESCRIPTION:
Schönes Monaco Monte Carlo. A journey through this one of the smallest country is beautiful.
Monaco is the 2nd smallest country in the world and covers just two km². The Vatican is smaller, and also a country, and measures 0.44 km².
Unsurprisingly, Monaco does not have airports though it has heliports, and it costs 170 Euro to get from Nice Airport to this country.
Monaco has a total population upward of 37,800 (2014). The official language of Monaco is French. Monaco is the name of the country.
The city of Monaco has neighborhoods, and Monte-Carlo is one of these. It is the district on the hill, overlooking the main harbour, where you will find the casino and many luxury hotels.
There have been three James Bond films which feature the casino. Never Say Never Again, Goldeneye, and Casino Royale. Roger Moore, a previous James Bond has a house there.
It costs 10 euro to enter when it opens at 2 pm, and you need to be attired correctly, but you can go to Casino Café de Paris for free. I am fascinated by the country of Monaco.
In ancient history, the Rock of Monaco was a shelter for primitive populations.
history of Monaco itself really started in the 13th Century. On 10th June 1215, the Genoan family of the Gibelins laid the first stone of the castle, which is still today the Prince's Palace.
To attract new inhabitants, the initial masters of the Rock offered advantageous conditions to newcomers : territorial concessions, tax exemption.
For 700 years, the history of Monaco has been linked to that of the Grimaldi Dynasty which has celebrated in 1997, the anniversary of its accession to the Principality of Monaco.
The official language is French, although Italian and English are widely spoken. The traditional Monegasque language, le Monegù, is spoken amongst elders and is taught in all local schools.
The currency is Euro. Monegasque coins are used.
Deo Juvante (With God's Help) is the motto of Monaco and its Princes.
Catholicism is the state religion. However, freedom of worship is guaranteed by the Constitution and several religions are represented in Monaco.
The National Holiday is celebrated on 19th November every year. The national telephone code for Monaco is '377' and telecommunications are very efficient.
Monaco prints its own stamps.
