A Day at Sun Peaks
This highlights a fun ski day at Sun Peaks Resort, the 2nd largest resort in Canada with some of the best snow in Canada!
Find your line, in Sun Peaks
The best days are about finding good, clean lines. This is true whether you’re a snowboarder, an artist, or a writer. And if it’s new terrain, you need good guides—people who both inspire you and can give you local knowledge.
We were lucky enough to visit Sun Peaks, deep in the powder paradise of British Columbia, with all-star athletes Zuzy Rocka and Kieran Nikula. From dawn patrol up Sunburst chair to Top of the World, lapping tree runs and bombing groomers, we found some otherworldly flow and smoothness. And from the top of Burfield Chair and the terrain around Crystal Chair, we took in the insane views of Shuswap Lake and Copper Island.
But beyond the riding itself, we learned about Zuzy and Kieran’s relationship to this place. How it helps ground Zuzy’s art. How it keeps holding Kieran’s imagination as a skier even after 20 years. What we found is that Sun Peaks is where people come (and end up staying) for next-level lines. We didn’t want to leave.

The ski area comprises three mountains: Tod Mountain, Sundance Mountain, and Mt. Morrisey. Prior to July 1993, Sun Peaks was known simply as Tod Mountain, named after the highest ski mountain at the resort. The first chair lift, the Burfield chair, as well as the Burfield lodge, opened in 1961. In 1968, the lift was damaged by fire and was forced to close for repairs until December 1970. In 1992, Tod Mountain was purchased by Nippon Cable of Tokyo. Also since 1992, Ecosign Mountain Resort Planners Ltd. has acted as prime consultant and project planners for the transformation of the Tod Mountain Ski Area into Sun Peaks Village.
Explore TV Australia Visits Sun Peaks
Explore TV from Australia visited Sun Peaks earlier in the season as part of their show on winter holidays in Canada. Presenters Trevor and Chrissy took part in several amazing Sun Peaks experiences, including learning to ski with Olympic Champion Nancy Greene, taking a ride in a groomer, and snowshoeing in the alpine. We've put together the Sun Peaks segments of the episode so you can have a look at their trip.
