粵劇:新光戲院近貌點滴與紅伶劇照 (片段) Hong Kong Sunbeam Theatre

Cantonese opera about Donald Trump performed in Hong Kong
(12 Apr 2019) LEADIN
An opera has opened in Hong Kong about Donald Trump - and his fictional twin brother who lives in China.
Other world leaders such as Kim Jong-un and various Chinese politicians are also depicted in the show.
STORYLINE:
With the blond wig and red tie, the star of this opera may look familiar.
The Chinese actor and singer has the lead role in Trump on Show a four-day comedic Cantonese opera reimagining the current US President's personal life and his fictional twin brother who lives in China.
The three-hour opera opens with America's first family moving into the White House, where Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump discovers an old suitcase. Inside she finds an English version of The Little Red Book, the book of quotations by Mao Zedong, founding Chairman of modern Communist China which details his ideas on class struggle.
In the show, Donald Trump goes to China and meets historical Chinese politicians like Mao Zedong and Zhou En-lai, the first premier of modern Communist China. Trump also receives a visit from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in US.
Li Kui-Ming, a 64-year-old Feng-Shui master-turned Cantonese opera playwright, explains that his 34th Cantonese opera piece does not aim to focus on serious international politics.
He says the show simply uses current political characters to grab the audience's attention.
It could definitely draw people's attention if the play is about popular political figures due to their popularity and influence. I hope this opera will get my ideas across to the audience, he says.
The playwright hopes that one day, Trump on Show could even be performance before the leaders it features in Washington and North Korea.
The opera is being performed at the Sunbeam Theatre, which is one of the long-established traditional Cantonese opera venues in Hong Kong, created in 1972. It can host more that 1000 people in the audience.
Loong Koon-tin, a Cantonese opera actor with more than 40 years stage experience, plays Donald Trump.
He explains what it is like getting into character: I will portray Trump's special characteristics, for sure, I will wear a red tie and suit, with blond hair wig and golden eyebrows. It will be a colourful performance. Apart from the appearance, I would also imitate the way he talks as well as his body language.
Roger Chan, another Cantonese actor, plays current North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
We did a lot of research about Kim Jong-un. We try to get to know him through daily news reports. I hope I can take on his character. We hope to get the best result through this effort, he says.
Justin Lee, came to Hong Kong from Shanghai for the show, and says he hopes that this opera will provide ideas improving US-China relations:
This Cantonese opera is very special. It's about Donald Trump but is presented as the Cantonese opera version of Donald Trump. Everyone in the world knows Donald Trump. With the recent tense relationship between China and America due to the trade war, I want to watch this show and see how the playwright depicts Donald Trump, and hope the show will bring on new ideas to improve US-China relationship.
Chan Chi-kai, a loyal fan of playwright Li Kui-ming is impressed by his latest offering:
I think the theme is very fresh, original and unimaginable because it must be difficult to use traditional Cantonese opera elements and performing methods to perform and interpret the role of these modern world-leading characters, he says.

Trump debutta all'opera cantonese, in scena a Hong Kong
Roma, 12 apr.

HONG KONG DRIVING TOUR (ULTRA HD 4K) - NORTH POINT JAVA ROAD

Come and watch our Hong Kong Driving Tour video, where we take you around North Point, Java Road. Our video is filmed in UHD 4K, crystal clear quality, as if you are actually here.
'North Point (Chinese: 北角; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Pak-kak) is a mixed-use urban area in the Eastern District of Hong Kong. It is in the northeastern part of Hong Kong Island, between Causeway Bay and Quarry Bay, and projects toward Kowloon Bay.North Point is bounded by Hing Fat Street (興發街) to the west and by Mansion Street (民新街) to the east, by Victoria Harbour to the north and Braemar Hill to the south.[2] The Fortress Hill area forms the westernmost part of North Point, while the Tsat Tsz Mui area is located in its easternmost part. Parts of North Point have been inhabited since before the British arrived in the mid-19th century. The Metropole Hotel was built in 1899 and was used until 1906.[3] In 1919, the Hongkong Electric Company started operation of the territory's second power station at North Point.[4] In the 1920s, Ming Yuen Amusement Park became a popular entertainment venues on the Island. During the 1930s, the beaches of North Point became one of the most popular places for holding swimming gala in Hong Kong. In 1938, the North Point Refugee Camp was built to accommodate the influx of refugees from the Mainland. The camp comprised 26 huts. Access to the camp was via Kam Hong Road and Marble Road. During World War II, the camp was renamed the North Point Camp, and used as a prisoner camp for captured Canadian soldiers during the Japanese occupation.[5]
During the Chinese Civil disruption, a large number of the rich and middle class from Shanghai fled to Hong Kong to escape the turmoil, many of them settled in North Point. In 1950, North Point became known as Little Shanghai, since in the minds of many, it has already become the replacement for the surrendered Shanghai in China.[1] The first wave of emigrants introduced Shanghai-style restaurants, beauty parlours and barbershops. They also learned Cantonese and intermarried with people of other dialect groups. During the 1950s, North Point was the premiere place of residence for these emigrants, leading to a massive population boom; by the end of 1960, North Point was listed as the most densely populated place on earth by the Guinness Book of Records.[6] The first school in Hong Kong to use Mandarin as the main medium of instruction, Kiangsu and Chekiang Primary School, was founded in 1953 in North Point by these early Shanghainese immigrants. Shanghai at the time was heavily associated with leftist movements; leftist-supported businesses in North Point, such as the Sunbeam Theatre which showcases Chinese Opera, are a legacy of their influence.
The second group that moved to North Point were the Fujianese, who were mostly displaced by political events in Southeast Asia. Small Indonesian specialist grocery shops selling coffee, coconuts, and bumbu are some of the remaining traces of their identity. The area became known as Little Fujian.[1]And Chun Yeung Street which is one iconic place that you can easily find variety of traditional Fujianese food from the grocery shops, such as misua, tokwa, tikoy, lumpia & green bean cake.North Point is served by the Island Line and the Tseung Kwan O Line of the MTR rapid transit railway system. North Point Station is the terminus of the Tseung Kwan O Line. There is one highway, Island Eastern Corridor, serving North Point; it runs along the waterfront of the area. North Point is also served by Hong Kong Tramways, of which it is one of the seven terminal points. Kowloon Motor Bus, New World First Bus and Citybus have routes through North Point. Hongkong and Yaumati Ferry services connect North Point Ferry Pier to various places in Hong Kong, including Hung Hom, Kowloon City, and Kwun Tong. During the annual Tin Hau Festival, special ferries operate from North Point Ferry Pier to Joss House Bay. North Point is also served by public light buses.'
