Driving Downtown - Houston 4K - USA
Driving Downtown - Houston Texas USA - Episode 38.
Starting Point: .
Houston is the most populous city in Texas and the fourth-most populous city in the United States. With a census-estimated 2014 population of 2.2 million, it also is the largest city in the Southern United States.
Houston's economy has a broad industrial base in energy, manufacturing, aeronautics, and transportation. It is also leading in health care sectors and building oilfield equipment; only New York City is home to more Fortune 500 headquarters within its city limits.[11][12] The Port of Houston ranks first in the United States in international waterborne tonnage handled and second in total cargo tonnage handled.[13] Nicknamed the Space City, Houston is a global city, with strengths in business, international trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, sports, technology, education, medicine, and research. The city has a population from various ethnic and religious backgrounds and a large and growing international community. Houston is the most diverse city in Texas and has been described as the most diverse in the United States.[14] It is home to many cultural institutions and exhibits, which attract more than 7 million visitors a year to the Museum District. Houston has an active visual and performing arts scene in the Theater District and offers year-round resident companies in all major performing arts.
Architecture
Houston has the fourth-tallest skyline in North America (after New York City, Chicago, and Toronto) and 12th-tallest in the world, as of 2014.
Economy
Houston is recognized worldwide for its energy industry—particularly for oil and natural gas—as well as for biomedical research and aeronautics. Renewable energy sources—wind and solar—are also growing economic bases in the city.[99][100] The Houston Ship Channel is also a large part of Houston's economic base.
The Houston area is a leading center for building oilfield equipment.[103] Much of its success as a petrochemical complex is due to its busy ship channel, the Port of Houston.[104] In the United States, the port ranks first in international commerce and 10th among the largest ports in the world.[13][105] Unlike most places, high oil and gasoline prices are beneficial for Houston's economy, as many of its residents are employed in the energy industry.[106] Houston is the beginning or end point of numerous oil, gas, and products pipelines.
Tourism and Recreation
The Theater District is a 17-block area in the center of downtown Houston that is home to the Bayou Place entertainment complex, restaurants, movies, plazas, and parks. Bayou Place is a large multilevel building containing full-service restaurants, bars, live music, billiards, and Sundance Cinema. The Bayou Music Center stages live concerts, stage plays, and stand-up comedy. Space Center Houston is the official visitors' center of NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. The Space Center has many interactive exhibits including moon rocks, a shuttle simulator, and presentations about the history of NASA's manned space flight program. Other tourist attractions include the Galleria (Texas's largest shopping mall, located in the Uptown District), Old Market Square, the Downtown Aquarium, and Sam Houston Race Park.
Sports
Houston has sports teams for every major professional league except the National Hockey League. The Houston Astros are a Major League Baseball expansion team formed in 1962. The Houston Rockets are a National Basketball Association franchise based in the city since 1971. The Houston Texans are a National Football League expansion team formed in 2002. The Houston Dynamo is a Major League Soccer franchise that has been based in Houston since 2006.
Healthcare
Houston is the seat of the internationally renowned Texas Medical Center, which contains the world's largest concentration of research and healthcare institutions.[196] All 49 member institutions of the Texas Medical Center are non-profit organizations. They provide patient and preventive care, research, education, and local, national, and international community well-being.

How to Survive a Plague
David France discusses his telling of the history of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the U.S., a riveting, powerful telling of the story of the grassroots movement of activists, many of them in a life-or-death struggle, who seized upon scientific research to help develop the drugs that turned HIV from a mostly fatal infection to a manageable disease. Ignored by public officials, religious leaders, and the nation at large, and confronted with shame and hatred, this small group of men and women chose to fight for their right to live by educating themselves and demanding to become full partners in the race for effective treatments. Around the globe, 16 million people are alive today thanks to their efforts. Speaker Biography: David France is author of How to Survive a Plague and creator of the 2012 Academy Award-nominated film of the same title.

Lea was a finalist in a screenwriting competition in the early days of the Sundance Film Festival. Mesa Spirit RV Resort Review - Thousand Trails (Encore) (76)
What a pleasant surprise! This campground truly is a resort. Complete with three pools, five spas, two gyms, a billiard room, two poker rooms, a theater room, and much more.
Some of the pros: free campground wide wifi with a very quick connection, many amenities and activities, location, nearby shops and services, friendly staff, clean bathrooms and common areas.
On the downside Mena had trouble finding a shower with hot water. It may have been a busy time when she went to the bath house. We also would have enjoyed a picnic table at the site. You also need a 50 amp male to 30 amp female adapter for shore power. These things took nothing away from the experience though. We really loved this resort.
Unfortunately we were only here for two days but we will definitely be back to take advantage of the amenities and activities.
Why we love the Thousand Trails Zone Pass ($565 USD) with the Trails Collection ($199 USD) upgrade:
Not only can we access the approximately 80 Thousand Trails campgrounds at no extra cost, but we also have access to 107 Encore properties. Only 18 of the Encore properties are premium properties and cost an additional $20/night.
It fits our current lifestyle because we are trying to see as much of the U.S. and Canada as possible this winter. Maybe next year we will try something different but for now, it works well. We estimate that we are paying about $5/night based on the above membership. If you like you can check out the link below to get an additional rebate.
Get out and camp with $100 off a Thousand Trails Camping Pass. You will get $100 off and we will receive a $25 referral fee. All our reviews are 100% honest opinions. Start exploring by clicking this link!

★ About Bernie:
Bernie Sanders is a Democratic candidate for President of the United States. He is serving his second term in the U.S. Senate after winning re-election in 2012 with 71 percent of the vote. Sanders previously served as mayor of Vermont’s largest city for eight years before defeating an incumbent Republican to be the sole congressperson for the state in the U.S. House of Representatives. He lives in Burlington, Vermont with his wife Jane and has four children and seven grandchildren.
Bernard “Bernie” Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York, to immigrant parents and grew up in a small, rent-controlled apartment. His father came to the United States from Poland at the age of 17 without much money or a formal education. While attending the University of Chicago, a 20-year-old Sanders led students in a multi-week sit-in to oppose segregation in off-campus housing owned by the university as a Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) officer. In August of 1963, Sanders took an overnight bus as an organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee to hear Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech firsthand at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
After graduation, Bernie moved to Vermont where he worked as a carpenter and documentary filmmaker. In 1981, he was elected as mayor of Burlington as an Independent by a mere 10 votes, shocking the city’s political establishment by defeating a six-term, local machine mayor. In 1983, Bernie was re-elected by a 21 point margin with a record amount of voter turnout. Under his administration, the city made major strides in affordable housing, progressive taxation, environmental protection, child care, women’s rights, youth programs and the arts. In 1990, Sanders was elected to the House of Representatives as the first Independent in 40 years and joined the Democratic caucus. He was re-elected for eight terms, during which he voted against the deregulation of Wall Street, the Patriot Act, and the invasion of Iraq.
In 2006, Sanders defeated the richest man in Vermont to win a seat in the U.S. Senate as an Independent. Known as a “practical and successful legislator,” Sanders served as chairman of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs where he authored and passed the most significant veteran health care reform bill in recent history. While in the Senate, Sanders has fought tirelessly for working class Americans against the influence of big money in politics. In 2010, he gave an eight-and-a-half hour filibuster-like speech on the Senate floor in opposition to extending Bush-era tax breaks for the wealthy. In 2015, the Democratic leadership tapped Bernie to serve as the caucus’ ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee.
Known for his consistency on the issues, Senator Sanders has supported the working class, women, communities of color, and the LGBT community throughout his career. He is an advocate for the environment, unions, and immigrants. He voted against Keystone XL, opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, wants to expand the Voting Rights Act, and pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

The Infiltrators: How Undocumented Activists Snuck Into Immigration Jail to Fight Deportations
- An immigrant rights activist has been detained in Florida just weeks after he appeared in an acclaimed film at the Sundance Film Festival about activists infiltrating and exposing for-profit immigrant detention jails. Claudio Rojas was apprehended on Wednesday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement after an annual check-in and is now being held at Krome Detention Center, where he faces immediate deportation. His lawyer says his arrest is linked to the film featuring his activism. It’s called “The Infiltrators.” The gripping hybrid documentary/dramatic feature was a smash success at Sundance and will play at the Miami Film Festival Tuesday. But Claudio Rojas will not be there to see it. “The Infiltrators” is based on the incredible true story of undocumented immigrants who purposely got themselves arrested by federal authorities in order to infiltrate the Broward Transitional Center in Florida and organize the detainees within its walls. Democracy Now! spoke with the film’s co-director, Alex Rivera, and two activists featured in the film, Viridiana Martinez and Mohammad Abdollahi, at the Sundance Film Festival.

The legal tide has changed in the U.S. as the Supreme Court legalizes same sex marriage. But for many Asian Americans L-G-B-T-Q’s (Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual and Queer), it’s still a struggle to find acceptance within their own communities. Louie Psihoyos: Racing Extinction | Talks at Google
Louie Psihoyos is Executive Director of the Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS), and the Academy Award®-winning director of The Cove and Racing Extinction. He is also the visionary force behind the unprecedented large-scale projections on the United Nations Headquarters, the Empire State Building, and St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican. Previously a National Geographic filmmaker for 17 years, Louie uses the power of imagery to convey complex ideas with the ambitious goal of changing the world.
Louie's most recent film, Racing Extinction, takes on the current mass extinction of species of our own making. Scientists predict we could lose up to half of all species by the end of the century due to habitat destruction, pollution, over-consumption and climate change. Racing Extinction follows a team of individuals that uncover this unseen extinction, but more importantly, come together with an innovative and inspiring approach to garner the world's attention and create solutions. The film is more than just a movie – it's a movement to call on everyone to #StartWith1Thing to curb this mass extinction and collectively overhaul how we impact the planet.
From sustainable energy and transport, to diet, using art as activism, and perceiving boundaries like catnip, Louie's vision is ambitious and disruptive. To date his projects have reached several billion people across the globe, and there is much more underway.

The Free Market Economy, Disaster Capitalism and Blackwater: Naomi Klein & Jeremy Scahill (2008)
Naomi Klein (born May 8, 1970) is a Canadian author and social activist known for her political analyses and criticism of corporate globalization. She is best known for No Logo, a book that went on to become an international bestseller. Her books:
Klein's third book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, was published on September 4, 2007, becoming an international and New York Times bestseller translated into 28 languages. The book argues that the free market policies of Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman and the Chicago School of Economics have risen to prominence in countries such as Chile, under Pinochet, Poland, Russia, under Yeltsin, and the United States (for example, the privatization of the New Orleans Public Schools after Hurricane Katrina). The book also argues that policy initiatives (for instance, the privatization of Iraq's economy under the Coalition Provisional Authority) were rushed through while the citizens of these countries were in shock from disasters, upheavals, or invasion.
Central to the book's thesis is the contention that those who wish to implement unpopular free market policies now routinely do so by taking advantage of certain features of the aftermath of major disasters, be they economic, political, military or natural in nature. The suggestion is that when a society experiences a major 'shock' there is a widespread desire for a rapid and decisive response to correct the situation; this desire for bold and immediate action provides an opportunity for unscrupulous actors to implement policies which go far beyond a legitimate response to disaster. The book suggests that when the rush to act means the specifics of a response will go unscrutinized, that is the moment when unpopular and unrelated policies will intentionally be rushed into effect. The book appears to claim that these shocks are in some cases intentionally encouraged or even manufactured.
Klein identifies the shock doctrine, elaborating on Joseph Schumpeter, as the latest in capitalism's phases of creative destruction.
The Shock Doctrine was adapted into a short film of the same name, released onto YouTube. The film was directed by Jonás Cuarón, produced and co-written by his father Alfonso Cuarón. The video has been viewed over one million times.
The publication of The Shock Doctrine increased Klein's prominence, with the New Yorker judging her the most visible and influential figure on the American left—what Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky were thirty years ago. On February 24, 2009, the book was awarded the inaugural Warwick Prize for Writing from the University of Warwick in England. The prize carried a cash award of £50,000.
Jeremy Scahill (born October 18, 1974) is the National Security Correspondent for The Nation magazine and author of the international bestseller Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army, which won the George Polk Book Award. His newest book is Dirty Wars: The World Is a Battlefield, published by Nation Books on April 23, 2013. On January 8, 2013, the documentary film of the same name was released.
Scahill is a Fellow at The Nation Institute. He is also a producer and writer of the film Dirty Wars, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Scahill learned the journalism trade and got his start as a journalist on the independently syndicated daily news show Democracy Now!. He lives in Brooklyn, NY.
Scahill's first book, New York Times bestseller Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army,[42] thoroughly revised and updated to include the Nisour Square massacre, was released in paperback edition in 2008.[43][44] Blackwater depicts the rise of the controversial military contracting firm Blackwater, now called Academi.[45]
Scahill exposed the presence of Blackwater mercenaries in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and his reporting sparked a Congressional inquiry and an internal Department of Homeland Security investigation.[46]
Scahill's book published by Nation Books,[47] Dirty Wars: The World Is a Battlefield, released on April 23, 2013.[48]
The book was later made into a 2013 American documentary directed by Richard Rowley based on a screenplay written by Scahill and David Riker. Scahill both produces and narrates the film. Dirty Wars premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival on January 18, 2013. It was released in four theaters on June 7, 2013.
