Stanthorpe, Sundown National Park and the Scenic Rim Region like you've never seen before!
This long weekend away lead us and our good friends on an unforgettable adventure into the Scenic Rim region of Queensland and the New South Wales border. This spontaneous camping adventure included the Condamine River track, Queen Mary Falls, Maroon Damn, Stanthorpe Wineries, Sundown National park and the lucrative Undercliffe Falls. Come checkout what we got up to and see some of the wild local animals that we got up close and personal with. You won't be disappointed!
Sundown National Park 4x4 Offroad Trip
We spent the long weekend of 1st , 2nd and 3rd of October exploring Sundown National Park. The park runs along the QLD and NSW border just out of Ballandean.
Once reaching the park entrance it is approximately 8km to Red Rock Gorge Camping area/lookout. The lookout walking track is approximately 400m return. Along the track it is constantly rocky and steep. There is two mine shafts along the way, one which is not able to be accessed and the other which you can view from behind a safety fence.
The next campsite along the way is Reedy Waterhole which is remote camping with no facilities. Our camp for the 3 days was Burrows Waterhole Campsite, this site has long drop toilets and is next to the amazing Burrows Waterhole. The trip from the main gate to Burrows Waterhole is 20km and takes approximately 2 hours (not including Red Rock Gorge) due to it being steep and rocky.
There is stunning views out to distant mountain ranges and the track is lined with animals. Camped at burrows the Grassed site is filled with animals and birdlife, in the early morning and late afternoon Kangaroos and Wallabies line the camp and all throughout the day amazing bird calls are heard. Along with the sound of a running creek it is a very peaceful place. From camp there are plenty of 4wd tracks to keep you busy.

Girraween National Park - An Exploration of Bush walks and the Park
Girraween National Park is located 260 km south-west of Brisbane in Queensland Australia on the border with NSW. It is home to wondrous granite outcrops and mountains, crystal clear waters and beautiful displays of wildflowers beginning near winters end.
It is a great place for hiking or spending a week camping to get away from busy city life. I visit The Junction, Granite Arch, The Pyramids, Castle Rock and The Sphinx.
