Mongolia - Land of the Blue Sky
The most exciting part of Kodamasia Adventure started : using train to reach St Petersburg from Beijing. But before reaching Russia, there is a country that MUST be visited on the way: MONGOLIA.
Going to Mongolia was one of my dream. This country seems very unique: it was the biggest empire of the History of humanity, it’s 3 times bigger than France and 20 times less populated, it’s -40° in winter and +30° in summer, there are more horses than humans, there is the lowest density of population on Earth, and a natural diversity pretty uncommon on Earth, and half of the population living a nomadic life in the nature. For all of these reasons, travelling to Mongolia is something unique.
It took us around 48 hours to reach Oulan Bator (Ulaanbaatar), the Mongolian capital, from Beijing. To go from Beijing to Mongolia, we took a bus during 12hours from Beijing to the Mongolian border, then we used a “passer” (a guy that takes you in his car) to cross the border between China and Mongolia, and we took a Mongolian night train during 16 hours to cross whole country. This train ride was the most beautiful we ever had: crossing infinite green lands, the semi gobi desert, seeing so many animals and nomadic houses…
We stayed a few days in the capital city before going for a tour in the countryside. Ulaanbaatar is a big city, where half of the country population is living. Very contrasted between the developed city center, and the almost slums surrounding the city. You eat very good food there (nightmare for vegetarians), people are nice, there air is clean, and nightlife is awesome. We were staying at Sunpath Hostel, which organised us our tours in the countryside. This hostel is from far the best in UB, due to the kindness and professionalism of the staff. Top 3 hostels in my whole trip so far.
But you don’t go to Mongolia to experience UB. The main point of going to Mongolia is to explore the nature which is unique in the world.
Most of the hostels are also tour organizers. I opted for a week tour in the Orkhon Valley, green land of horses and nomadic people. During this tour, we slept every night in gers (traditional Mongolian “tents”), with nomadic families and real nomadic conditions. Our guide, Doggy, was cooking for us Mongolian food every night. Every day we were driving hundreds of kilometres on very bumpy roads to reach other places. We did horse ridind in paradisiac landscapes, camel riding in the semi Gobi Desert, saw some waterfalls, wild horses, and so many animals everywhere. This experience was the best I could have and I recommend it to everyone. 1 week is not long, I would have done more if I knew in advance how time would fly during this experience…
I had very high expectations before to go to Mongolia, and I’ve not been disappointed a minute. This country is UNIQUE, and the experience there is the best I could have. I recommend it to everyone who wants to live an amazing experience in a completely different place than what he already knows. Everything has been perfect and now I’m sure of one thing: I’ll be back to Mongolia soon!

Opening:
After nearly a year of backpacking around Asia, we found ourselves rolling into Ulan Bator, the capital city of Mongolia, a country synonymous with Genghis Khan (known as Chinggis Khan in Mongolia) , wide open spaces, and Nomadic life. Of the 3 million people that call Mongolia home, nearly half live in UB, making it the cultural, financial and industrial center of Mongolia, so it’s no surprise that this city is the first stop for most foreign visitors. In our case, we entered the country from China after a 48 hour marathon of bus and train travel that started from Beijing, so as soon as we arrived, the ONLY thing we could think about was to getting to the nearest hostel to sleep. So we did. For 2 days.
Leaving UB:
Once we got our strength up we did some research and found that our hostel was offering a tour of the gobi desert as well as other parts of central Mongolia; a journey that would take 16 days; we’d decided to go with 6 other travelers that we’d met a couple of days beforehand, but with only one day to prepare and zero winter clothes, we desperately needed to gear up...
Market:
“Naran Tuul zach (зах or Khar Zakh)” is a sprawling flea market where you can find wall clocks, linoleum flooring and just about anything else. The market has gained a bad reputation among locals and foreigners alike for being a pickpocket’s haven, so with such a rough exterior and shady nickname like “black market”, we figured we’d be able to bargain our way into some amazing deal, but we soon discovered that this wasn’t the case...
Lunch:
Because Mongolian culture is based on livestock farming, the traditional diet consists of meat, flour and dairy with mutton being the meat of choice. Mongolian winters are extremely harsh so a lot of animal fat is consumed during winter and more dairy products during the summer.
Closing:
What… a… day. It was a long journey, but the scenery was stunning and the Mongolian countryside made quite the first impression on us. But this was only just the beginning and we couldn’t wait to see what the next 15 days would bring...

Mongolia In The Winter
Did you know that during the Winter, Mongolia still has the scenic view? Even the average temperature was -30 to -40. I thought, If you're adventurous it's not a big problem tho?
It was my journey in January 2018 until March 2018, overlanding from China to Mongolia and some activities I did during that time such as Visiting Reindeer Family, the last tribe in Mongolia who almost disappeared, Hiking the mountain, visiting historical places, etc.
If you had any question, feel free to ask me.
Thank you.
7-Day Gobi Desert Trip - Mongolia 2017
A few months ago we took a 7-day trip around the Gobi Desert with Sunpath Mongolia. We rode in a classic Soviet 4WD van, the UAZ-452. Each day we drove through this amazing scenic land and stopped at a new site. Each night we stayed with a nomadic family in a ger (yurt). It was an amazing experience and we highly recommend Sunpath if you’re looking for a tour in Mongolia.

Day 1: White Stupa - an amazing set of cliff structures with beautiful sedimentary formation.
Day 2: Muhar Shivert Gap - a gorge that’s river and waterfall freezes in the winter and makes for a fun, but slippery walk through.
Day 3: Khongor Dunes - these amazing dunes can measure anywhere from 100 to 300 meters high and make for a challenging hike with gorgeous views from the top.
Day 4: Flaming Cliffs - these red/orange sandstone cliffs are beautiful, especially just before sunset. Also this is the first place where dinosaur eggs were discovered.
Day 5: Ongi Monastery ruins - Buddhist monastery that suffered great persecution and destruction under communist rule.
Day 6: Erdene Zuu Monastery - thought to be the oldest Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. Also suffered great persecution and destruction under communist rule.
Day 7: A long, but scenic drive back to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s capital.

DJI Mavic Pro takes to the skies in Mongolia!
An epic two weeks, thanks to Sunpath Mongolia.Vast endless grasslands. Gorgeous lakes. Dancing sand-dunes. One beautiful sunset after another.
Scorching dry desert. Valleys, steppes, waterfalls and volcanoes. Joyous sea-gulls, wild horses, lazy yaks, sheep, camels and reindeer. Hard-bitten nomads. And a sky full of stars.
Three thousand km, two insane weeks and one helluva' ride later, I can say it's been an adventure of a lifetime!
