Adventure Cat - San Francisco Sailing Catamaran Sunset Video (2017)
FULL BLOG POST:
San Francisco sailing under the iconic Golden Gate Bridge at sunset is a bucket list experience! Meeting up with the crew a little while before sunset allowed us time to get comfy and acquainted with the catamaran and crew before sailing out of the docks directly next to Pier 39 and the famous (or infamous) sea lions that have a spot all their own.
Setting sail we headed straight toward Alcatraz and passed by the popular daytime attraction and the shuttle boat that must be used to get there. Sunset was coming quickly so the captain headed toward the Golden Gate Bridge and away we went!
Almost to the bridge we noticed another boat that was there for the same reason...sunset at the Golden Gate Bridge! Seeing the bridge from a whole new vantage point was incredible! We had perfect weather with a golden sun and a bright blue sky, oh and not to mention the reddish orange bridge!
Turning back toward Pier 39 everyone was all smiles and having a great time. The sun sunk into the water and pulled back into the docks to disembark the ship.

Celebrity Solstice Cruise: Auckland to Sydney
November 2019: Celebrity Solstice Cruise from Auckland to Sydney. Photo scenes from Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, Akaroa, Dunedin, The New Zealand Sounds (Dusky, Doubtful, and Milford), Hobart and Sydney.
Some cruise notes I made during the cruise:
Auckland: Lovely evening tonight in downtown Auckland harbour. Nice time of day to start a cruise.
Tauranga: Great weather for a walkabout. Went for a stroll around the base of Mt Maunganui.
Wellington: The day started out cold, wet and windy, typical Wellington. Took a 4WD tour over to the edge of Cook Strait on the seal coast, and walked along rugged wild shores.
Akaroa: Nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano, Akaroa is rich with beautiful bays teaming with wildlife. Took an exhilarating jet-boat ride around the picturesque harbour. Thank goodness I took warm clothes. Only 14c (57f) plus chill factor, a bit cold.
Dunedin: Known as Edinburgh of New Zealand, Dunedin is the country’s city of the south, wearing its Scottish heritage with pride. Took a 4WD trip from the city over to the Otago Peninsula. Really hard to describe the rugged peaceful wilderness this place offers.
Dusky Sound: Up early to catch the roaring forties Antarctic air, as we started sailing through Dusky Sound. What a fantastic experience and breath-taking views. Steep cliffs that have been carved over centuries by dozens of waterfalls, surround the largest of the many fjords along the New Zealand coast. Dusky Sound is a wildlife paradise, with seals, dolphins and many different species of sea birds.
Doubtful Sound: Another roaring forties Antarctic gale blowing me off my feet (and a little rain) but another exciting scenic sail through such a peaceful destination. A dual layered marine ecosystem is formed by cold mountain freshwater flowing down from the cliffs into the sea saltwater. This creates a playground for seals and penguins.
Milford Sound: Only one in three trips make it into Milford Sound as the weather often turns stormy, but today we were lucky. Majestic Milford Sound is a narrow, very deep channel, with some cliffs towering over a mile high, which makes the massive Celebrity Solstice ship look tiny in comparison.
The Zealand Sounds, Dusky, Doubtful and Milford, are simply majestic and awe inspiring. There’s something eerily special with dark rolling grey clouds and intermittent periods of rain. The bird and sea life apparently love that type of weather. It’s their natural playground.
Celebrity Solstice at Sea: Two sea days until we reach Hobart, Tasmania. The sun is shining, temperature rising, blue skies and t-shirts again. Can’t be too bad! Took a tour of the ship and visited many internal working areas, including the bridge and engine control room. Heading across the Tasman, caught a nice sunrise about 5am.
Hobart Coastal Wilderness: Arrived in Hobart, Tasmania. We’re here for two days, so took a speed boat tour on the first day around the Hobart coast line. A very picturesque place.
Hobart City: The capital of Australia’s island state of Tasmania, sits on the River Derwent harbour. Fashionable Salamanca Place has old sandstone warehouses, galleries and cafes. Nearby is Battery Point, a historic district with narrow lanes and colonial-era cottages. Hobart’s population is around 220,000 and is built on hilly roads, with many quaint suburbs boasting fantastic views of the harbour. I took the hop-on hop-off bus on the second day for a quick tour around the city. A bit difficult to take photos out of a moving bumpy bus window, so the odd image looks a little blurrier than normal.
Sydney, Australia: The final day of the cruise, travelling from Hobart to Sydney, arriving at first light. The sky was darker than normal due to the pollution effects of smoke from the major bushfires in NSW, Australia. Arriving into Sydney harbour is quite spectacular when you see the city skyline, opera house and harbour bridge all together.
AKIKO: time away from the rush of the world
With slick, strong exterior lines this beautiful superyacht is made to explore. AKIKO offers a sumptuous adventure platform to the Australian experiential charter market. Built by Alloy Yachts, AKIKO was first launched in 2007 and went on to pick up five major honours at the 2008 World Superyacht Awards.
The 111ft /34m Custom expedition yacht features sophisticated exterior design and engineering by Gregory Marshall. Previously named VvS1 (after a grade of diamonds), she was proudly introduced to the Australian charter market following an extensive refit in New Zealand in 2016-2017. Spacious living areas lead to full height windows dare the passing views to vie for your attention with the impeccably decorated interior. AKIKO is versatile enough to enter small bays, anchor behind coral atolls or for game fishing over submarine reefs.
The warm colours of Australia accent an interior which is at once strikingly-modern, and invitingly-luxurious. A generous owner’s suite stretches full beam across the main deck, and four guest cabins complete the accommodation, with room for 10 live-aboard guests housed in vibrant, individual spaces.
With an onboard private chef preparing a menu designed around your palate, and five additional crew to cater to your every need, AKIKO delivers an opportunity to revel in spending time with the ones you love most. Onboard tenders, jet skis, kayaks, stand up paddleboards, an onboard dive master and scuba gear will all add to the experience – but AKIKO’s true gift is time away from the rush of the world to enjoy a journey of discovery with friends and family.
Her large beam of 7.8m offers expansive space unusual to a 35m superyacht. The superyacht AKIKO is also an ideal fishing experience vessel, for adventures in the Kimberley, Western Australia and further afield in the South Pacific. While wrestling in that great catch, you can make use of the spacious cockpit on the aft deck, which also has fridge/freezers and live bait tanks.
Supeyacht AKIKO is based in Perth, Western Australia, and travels around the West Coast of Australia. She also visits Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Fiji, and the Australian Great Barrier Reef for the ultimate luxpeditions.

NEW ZEALAND: SUNSET over beautiful LAKE WAKATIPU (South Island)
SUBSCRIBE!! - Here's a sunset over the magnificent lake Wakatipu, filmed from Queenstown after a day of snowing. The song is 'I am sailing' by Rod Stewart, one of my favorites. New Zealand is a country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean consisting of 2 main islands, both marked by volcanoes and glaciation. Capital Wellington, on the North Island, is home to Te Papa Tongarewa, the expansive national museum. Wellington’s dramatic Mt. Victoria, along with the South Island’s Fiordland and Southern Lakes, stood in for mythical Middle Earth in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films.

Big waves in the Gulf of Mexico after a couple of days of thunderstorms. June 5th, 2012
This video was taken about 150 miles from St. Petersburg, after our 3 thunderstorm. We were successful avoiding storms that we encountered earlier in the crossing, simply by sailing around them. Mother nature only lets you cheat like that for a limited time. Early one morning, just after sunrise we noticed a thunderstorm forming to the south and behind us. We thought we could outrun it like the other storms. Not this time. We were running with full sail at full speed when a gust hit. Sunny Ray rose up on top of the sea and started surfing at a scary speed. I was thinking capsize. We tried to round up to drop the main, but the apparent wind speed increased dramatically as we turned and the wind took control. Our mast was shaking and wiggling like a noodle. The noise was intense. We tried to drop the main but the wind was pulling on it so hard it wouldn't drop. Quick thinking Marty used our reefing system to pull the sail down to 1/3 it's normal size and we could get control of the boat again. Everyone sighed in relief and we sailed at top speed out of the stormy area. It was time for coffee.
Cheers, Dan

Walk at Sunset we go over the Bridge over Black Sea
Beautiful România and relax time with my childrens.
Warm climate, miles of sand beaches, ancient monuments, vineyards and modern resorts invite travelers to seriously consider Romania's Black Sea Coast as their summer vacation destination.
Beaches, stretching from Mamaia, are dotted with fine resorts and hotels, and countless sports and entertainment facilities.
Romania's main sea resorts are centred on 45 miles of fine sand beaches and include Mamaia, Eforie, Neptun, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Mangalia.
The Black Sea coast has long been known for cures of arthritic, rheumatic, internal and nervous disorders. Eforie Nord and Mangalia Spas specialize in mud baths (the mud is taken from the area's salty lake waters) as well as in world famous Gerovital and Aslavital original rejuvenation treatments.
Vacationers at Romania's Black Sea Coast can also join organized trips from the seaside to a number of locations in the country, including the Danube Delta, the painted monasteries of Bucovina, to the nation's capital city, Bucharest, or to nearby Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey.
