CLAM DIGGING IN SALEM MASSACHUSETTS-VAN TRAVEL!
Salem Clam digging is a North American term for a common way to harvest clams (edible infaunal bivalve mollusks) from below the surface of the tidal sand flats or mud flats where they live. It is done both recreationally (for enjoyment or as a source of food) and commercially (as a source of income). Commercial digging in the U.S. and Canada is colloquially referred to as clamming, and is done by a clammer.[1]
Amateur clam digging is often done using a straight long-handled spading fork, or a spading shovel.
Commercial clamming for quahog clams, and the larger surf clams (soup clams) is primarily done offshore, via mechanical dredging. To harvest cultivated clam beds, aquaculturalists often use a much smaller version (hand pulled) from the offshore dredge. Another form of commercial clamming is done from a flat-decked boat using a clamrake with a telescopic handle. The head of these rakes have long tines attached to a basket-like cage in which the clams are collected.

Saving Oceans with Rob Moir.mp4
Rob Moir tells of saving ocean realms by the lighthouse at Winter Island Salem MA. Discover how you can act to save dolphins suffering from green toxic slime due to too much fertilizers on the land. Meet the Ocean River Institute.
oceanriver.org
A former school teacher and member of Massachusetts Marine Educators (massmarineeducators.org logo on shirt), Rob was Curator of Natural History at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem MA in the 1980s. In 2007 he founded the Ocean River Institute and joined the Mass Ocean Coalition (massoceanaction.org) led by the Ocean Conservancy, Conservation Law Fdtn and Mass Audubon. His work was with the public to engage, educate and broaden a constituency supportive of area-based management for MA state waters, while the other organizations worked with politicians on Beacon Hill. This culminated in a State House event. The New England Aquarium inflated their right whale in front of the State House and Carver (MA) High School students volunteered to help. Students taught about oceans on a table nearby while tending the whale. The high point was when Cameron Diaz stopped by and signed onto the student's ocean campaign clipboard.
In 2010, ORI joined with other organizations and groups across the nation to promote a National Ocean Policy which President Obama enacted by executive order summer of 2010.

Heart of Oak / A Life on the Ocean Wave / Britannia, the Pride of the Ocean / Rule, Britannia!
(Performed by HM Royal Marines)
♦ Heart of Oak is the official march of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. It is also the official march of several Commonwealth navies including the Royal Canadian Navy (Marine royale canadienne) and the Royal New Zealand Navy. (It was also the official march of the Royal Australian Navy, but has now been replaced by the new march, Royal Australian Navy)
The oak in the song's title refers to the wood from which British warships were traditionally made in the age of sail. The phrase hearts of oak appears in English translations of the Aeneid.
♦ A Life on the Ocean Wave is a poem-turned-song by Epes Sargent published in 1838 and set to music by Henry Russell.
One day Sargent sir and Russell were walking on The Battery in New York City watching the ships enter the harbour. This scene inspired Sargent to write a poem, which Russell then put to music. The song soon became popular in both the United Kingdom and the United States.
At an 1851 celebration in Salem, Massachusetts, the Boston Cadet Band gave the new clipper ship Witch of the Wave a lively sendoff by striking up A Life on the Ocean Wave as the USS R. B. Forbes towed the new clipper out to set sail for Boston.
In 1882, the Deputy Adjutant General Royal Marines requested that the Bandmaster of each Royal Marine Division (Portsmouth, Plymouth, Chatham) submit an arrangement for a new regimental march for the corps, if possible based on a naval song. Kappey, the Bandmaster of the Chatham Division, submitted an arrangement of A Life on the Ocean Wave, with an eight bar trio from The Sea by Sigismund Neukomm, which was authorised for use as the regimental quick march of the Corps of Royal Marines in 1882.
In the United States, it is the official march of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
The tune, played by the Band of the Royal Marines, is played over the opening credits of the 1992 BBC television film An Ungentlemanly Act, about the first days of the invasion of the Falkland Islands by the Argentine Republic in 1982.
♦ Britannia, the Pride of the Ocean, the British version of the American anthem Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean, was first published in 1852, nine years after the American version was first published.
There is no evidence it predated the American version.
♦ Rule, Britannia! is a British patriotic song, originating from the poem Rule, Britannia by James Thomson and set to music by Thomas Arne in 1740. It is strongly associated with the Royal Navy, but also used by the British Army.
Long Wharf - Boston MA Dji phantom 3 professional drone
Long Wharf is adjacent to the New England Aquarium, and is served by the Aquarium station on MBTA's Blue Line subway. MBTA boat services link the wharf to the Boston Navy Yard in Charlestown, Logan International Airport, Hull, and Quincy. Other passenger ferry services operate to the islands of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area, and to the cities of Salem and Provincetown. Cruise boats operate various cruises around the harbour. The wharf itself is occupied by a hotel, several restaurants and shops. At the seaward end, there is a large plaza with extensive views of the harbor. Now much shortened by land reclamation at its landward end, today it serves as the principal terminus for cruise boats and harbor ferries operating on Boston Harbor.
