Sunset View Point Kanyakumari
About Sunset View Point Nature has many colours and some of the most precious are the most deserted ones. You can find one of those sights in Kanyakumari, which is the southernmost tip of India. At the confluence of the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea, the sunset viewpoint at Kanyakumari is like none other. There are waters in sight and you can watch the sun immerse itself in the waters. This sight attracts visitors for the tremendous beauty. There is a lighthouse in view that adds to the beauty of the views accessible from here. The views from this place are really stunning. The sun rises beyond the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, which gives a striking reflection to the complete scenario. One can enjoy some beautiful sights here in peace. The place also offers interesting photo ops because of the play of light, water and structures. On full moon evenings or Chitra Poornima, the sunset and moon rise are visible at the same time. It is the best time to visit this viewpoint.

SUNSET POINT, KANYAKUMARI, TAMIL NADU
Kanyakumari,(formerly known as Cape Comorin) is a city of the Kanyakumari district in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu. It is the southernmost city of peninsular/contiguous India. Kanyakumari has been a city since the Sangam period.and is a popular tourist destination.
The place derives its name from the goddess Devi Kanya Kumari, considered to be the sister of Krishna, a goddess is believed to remove the rigidity from the mind, to whom women pray for marriage. In 1656, the Dutch East India company conquered Portuguese Ceylon from the Portuguese, and the name eventually corrupted to Comorin and was called Cape Comorin during British rule in India. The city was later renamed Kanyakumari by the Government of India and the Government of Madras.
According to a Hindu legend, Kanya Devi, an avatar of Parvati, was to marry Shiva, who failed to show up on his wedding day. Rice and other grains meant for the wedding feast remained uncooked and unused.[4] As the legend goes, the uncooked grains turned into stones as time went by. Some believe that the small stones on the shore today, which look like rice, are indeed grains from the wedding that was never solemnised. Kanya Devi is now considered a virgin goddess who blesses pilgrims and tourists who flock the town. Her temple located in Kanyakumari is a Shakti Peetha or a holy shrine. According to another Hindu legend, Lord Hanuman dropped a piece of earth as he was carrying a mountain with his life-saving herb, Mrita Sanjivani, from the Himalayas to Lanka (Sri Lanka) during the Rama-Ravana war. This chunk of earth is called Marunthuvazh Malai, literally hills where medicine lives. This is said to be the reason for the abundance of unique native medicinal plants in the area. Marunthuvazh Malai is located near Kottaram about 7 km (4 mi) from Kanyakumari town on the Kanyakumari-Nagercoil highway. The sage Agasthya, who was an expert in medicinal herbs, is believed to have lived around this site in ancient days. It is believed to be the reason so many medicinal herbs are found on the hills near Kanyakumari. A nearby village is named Agastheeswaram after the sage. Today, there is a small ashram on the middle of the Maruthuvazh Malai hill, which tourists visit (after a short trek from the base of the hill), both to visit the Ashram and also to take a glimpse of the sea near Kanyakumari a few kilometres away, and the greenery below.
As of the census of India 2001, Kanyakumari had a population of 19,739, comprising 9,884 males and 9,855 females, making the sex ratio (number of females per thousand males) of the town to 997. A total of 2,403 people were under six years of age and the child sex ratio (number of females per thousand males under six years of age) stood at 1,024. The town had an average literacy of 88.62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. There were a total of 4,236 households in the town. As of 2001, Kanyakumari had a total of 5,929 main workers: 11 cultivators, 78 agricultural labourers, 66 in house hold industries and 5,774 other workers. There were a total of 119 marginal workers: 4 marginal cultivators, 3 marginal agricultural labourers, 11 marginal workers in household industries and 101 other marginal workers.

Kanyakumari, (formerly known as Cape Comorin) is a city of the Kanyakumari district in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu. It is the southernmost city of peninsular/contiguous India. Kanyakumari has been a city since the Sangam period.[1][2] and is a popular tourist destination.[3]
Devi Kanya Kumari is goddess Parvati in the form of an adolescent girl child. Devi is also known as Shree Baala Bhadra or Shree Baala. She is popularly known as sakthi (Durga or Parvati) Devi. The Bhagavathy Temple is located in Cape Kanya Kumari in Tamil Nadu, at the southern tip of main land India, there by located on the confluence of the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean. She is also known by several other names, including Kanya Devi and Devi Kumari. She is also worshiped as Shree Bhadrakali by devotees. Sage Parashurama is said to have performed the consecration of the temple. The goddess is believed to be the one who removes the rigidity of our mind; devotees usually feel the tears in their eyes or even inside their mind when they pray to the goddess in devotion and contemplation.[1] Kanyakumari Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peetam. It is believed that the spine area of Sati’s corpse fell here creating the presence of kundalini sakthi in the region.
As directed by his Guru Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda, came here to seek Devi's blessing in December 1892. It is in this location he decided to embark on the missionary work to a higher level of action rather than being passive like the usual Sanyasis. Swami Brahmananda (1863–1922) and Swami Nirmalananda (1863–1938), another two disciples of Sri Ramakrishna Parama Hamsa, also worshiped Devi Kanyakumari. In fact, Swami Nirmalananda brought several small girls from many parts of Kerala to worship goddess here in 1935-36 period. Seven girls later on became the members of the first batch of Nuns of the Sarada Ashrama, a Hindu nunnery started later in 1948 in Ottapalam, Palakkad, Kerala by Swami Vishadananda

If you have never been to Kanyakumari, you might be wondering as to what is so special about the sunrise and the sunset at this place. Well, Kanyakumari is one of those rare places from where you can view both sunrise and sunset in their entirety. This is because of the strategic location of the town and the confluence of the three water bodies namely the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. The meeting point of the three seas/oceans, also referred to as the Triveni Sangam, makes the water bluish-green in colour. When the sun rays fall on the bluish green water, the entire landscape illuminates, paving the way for a breath-taking view.
Although the views of the sunrise and the sunset are rather too beautiful throughout the year, there are specific times when you can get the best views. Ideally, you should visit Kanyakumari from November to January when the weather is extremely pleasant and the sky is clear. If watching the sunrise/sunset is your priority, it is better to avoid the rainy seasons when the view can get a little unclear due to clouds and precipitation.

Sunset and Coastline of Vivekananda Rock Memorial (Kanyakumari, India) (1080p HD)
Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a monument and it is a popular tourist attraction in Vavathurai. (Kanyakumari, India) The memorial stands on one of two rocks located about 500 meters east off mainland of Vavathurai, India's southernmost tip.
This place is famous for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets. It offers a spectacular view of the mainland and the ocean. This place is the most southern point of India and we can experience the winds and the waves. It is located in the midst of the ocean just 400 meters from Kanyakumari. This Vivekananda Rock Memorial is 663.6 km from the city of Bangalore.
Vivekananda Rock has two major parts, one is Vivekananda Dhyana Mandapam and another one is Sripada Para. A statue of Swami Vivekananda in a standing posture has also been installed in the Assembly hall with its vision directed towards the 'Sripadam'.
The memorial was built in 1970 by the Vivekananda Rock Memorial Committee to honor the visit of Swami Vivekananda here in December of 1892 for deep meditation and enlightenment.
Swami Vivekananda came to Kanyakumari in 1892 and swam in the ocean up to the 'Sripada' rock, and spent the whole night there for meditation. He came down to Kanyakumari on 24 December of 1892 before his departure for Chicago to participate in the World Religious Conference in 1893. He sat on meditation on this rock for two days.
Vivekananda Rock Memorial opens from Wednesday to Monday (Tuesday is a holiday) from 7:00 to 11:00 in the morning and from 2:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. Boat facilities are available to reach Vivekananda Rock and the same boat goes to Thiruvalluvar Statue as well.
This video can be useful for the Indian or foreigner tourists for knowing natural site of India.
You can watch out beautiful sunset easily in this video at coastline of Vivekananda Rock Memorial. You can experience sound of the winds and the waves as it is place of merger of three seas - Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.
This video is created by Subodh Taneja using Samsung Galaxy Note II at Vivekananda Rock Memorial (Kanyakumari) on monsoon season (September) of 2013.
