Scooter trip from Las Galeras to Las Terrenas
The scooter ride back from Las Galeras to Las Terrenas was a lot nicer in regards to weather. We had Sunshine the whole day. One thing we wanted to warn everybody thinking of taking this journey, watch out for the potholes after you get out of Las Galeras. They are very big and deep and in many cases they come up on you so quickly you can't move the scooter in time. One of the things we did that was really cool on the way home was stop at the Treehouse hotels. Right before you enter into Samana take the Zip Line Road to the right and drive all the way to the end. This video shows what it looks like. It's about a ten-minute hike into the rope swing, treehouse hotel and swimming pool area. It's really cool to see and we highly suggest that you make time on your way home to check this place out. If asked if we would do the drive from Las Galeras to Las Terrenas again? We probably would but not for a while. We feel like we got lucky in a few instances in regards to not hitting the potholes. We also had two people on the scooter plus a huge backpack so that was making it tougher as well. If you're experienced Riders it's not a bad drive at all. Hope you enjoy the video

Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo All-inclusive Resort - Walk from hotel lobby to beach
This is a walking tour from the main lobby to the beach at the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo All-inclusive Resort located in Las Terrenas, Samaná Province on the Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic. Our walk starts close to the hotel main lobby area which is also the main entrance and parking area. As we started walking on the path leading to the beach the view should immediately get a sense of how beautifully this resorts gardens are kept (palm trees and banana palms are abundant everywhere).
The buildings viewed on the way to the beach are mainly the Gold bracelet guests hotel suites (villas 2, 3 and 4) conveniently located close to the restaurants, bars and the beach. Next we view the travel agents building, where charter holiday guests can meet their tour operators or visit the office an read messages regarding departure times of buses and airplanes etc. Next we find ourselves standing in front of the road to Villas 1 and 2, where after we turn towards the main lobby building again and get a view of the lobby bar called the Daiquiri Bar a lovely place to sit at all hours of the day to have a coffee, drink or cocktail. This area is also where the main breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet restaurant called Las Dalias is located. We then start to approach the main swimming pool and the games area for Pétanque and Shuffle Board. After viewing the pool on the right we get a glimpse of the Las Olas Beach Buffet Restaurant (they call it a snack bar, but it is allot more than that!). After passing the Pétanque and Shuffleboard area we find ourselves in front of the resorts Jacuzzi, which we go and have a look at also. After viewing the Jacuzzi we pass the small shop cart (that sells sun tan cream, beach ball, beach tennis equipment etc.) have another proper look at the pool before moving over to the children´s playing area where the two table tennis (ping pong tables are located). We then pass the beach towel building which also houses very clean male and female lavatories before passing though the pool table and Foosball table area. As we get closer to the beach viewers will notice how much shade is provided by the surrounding trees, very practical to move your sunbed under if the sun should get too hot. Finally before arriving on the beach we pass (and do a round) of the beach bar where the personal are always friendly and ready to serve! Welcome to the Caribbean.

Dominican Republic One of the Movie Industries Most Sought Places
The DR has long been a favorite place for Hollywood’s movie industry. Along with places like British Columbia Canada, the DR ranks as one of the top countries for setting up stage and filming the scenes. My wife’s brother has been involved in the Canadian movie industry for over 30 years now and has worked on such popular shows as X-Files, Arrow and a long list of others. He explained to me why both locations are so popular. Seems it has a lot to do with price and diversity. For example in BC Canada and especially when the US Dollar is so strong it makes sense to film in other locations. In the DR simulating tropical scenes the likes of the South Pacific is rather easy. That’s why large sections of the film Rambo were done here. While on a recent excursion along a secluded section of beach we were stopped from proceeding only because Vin Diesel happened to be filming some action scenes from his latest movie. It’s not the first time this has happened. Enjoy the link provided and see if you were aware that these box office super hits were largely filmed in the DR. For now here is the link to ET Canada's short video clip I’m off to pick up our visitors. Until next time, Barry in DR.

Monte Cristi Mountain Goat Trail To The Top - WOW - What A View
There is a small cliff outcrop in Monte Cristi that offers some terrific ocean views. Of course the team needed to check it out for themselves during their roadtrip through the North West Dominican Republic. All I can say..... be happy that we used a stabilizer on the camera. Watch the front end of the 4 Wheel Land Cruiser in comparison to the land and you will get a sense of just how washed out this little 'mountain-goat-trail' of a road was.
But the views over the Monte Cristi coastline were pretty nice and worth the trip up.
If you have not already participated in one of our free DYD Discovery Tours of the north coast of the Dominican Republic...... WHY? Heck, worst case you get to explore another beautiful part of the world and best case you will fall in love with this little rural village of Cabrera, overlooking the ocean, that has become home to so many other expats. Click to sign up for YOUR own Discovery Tour.
