The Icefields Parkway in Alberta
Connecting Banff and Jasper National Parks, the Icefields Parkway is one of the world's most spectacular drives. Named for the massive glaciers that sit atop the imposing Rocky Mountains, it's a popular road-trip destination in the summer. Besides the spectacular views, stop in at the Columbia Icefields to enjoy a 4×4 ride onto a glacier itself. The bright coloured mineral water of Peyto and Moraine Lake amaze visitors every summer. Watch out for wildlife, go slow, and soak it all in.

Alberta 93 | Cycling the Icefields Parkway
In June 2017, a group of friends set out to cycle the 230km from Lake Louise to Jasper along Highway 93. With bikes weighing upwards of 35kg, the 1,800m in elevation needed to summit would require every ounce of resolve the group had.

Icefields Highway Alberta Canada
The Icefields Parkway (French: Promenade des Glaciers), also known as Highway 93 north, is a scenic road in Alberta, Canada. It parallels the Continental Divide, traversing the rugged landscape of the Canadian Rockies, travelling through Banff National Park and Jasper National Park. It links Lake Louise with Jasper to the north. At its southern end, the Icefields Parkway terminates at the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1). Highway 1 west goes to Yoho National Park in British Columbia and Highway 1 east to Lake Louise and the Town of Banff. A second parkway, the Bow Valley Parkway also links Lake Louise and the Town of Banff. Known as Highway 1A, this road parallels Highway 1 and, at the midpoint, passes the Castle Mountain junction where Highway 93 south, or the Banff-Windermere Highway, branches southwest into Kootenay National Park in British Columbia.
The Icefields Parkway, 230 km (140 mi) long, was completed in 1940. It is named for features such as the Columbia Icefield, visible from the parkway.

Motorcycling the Icefields Parkway, Alberta
For Lizzi, XX......Riding the Icefields Parkway of the Banff and Jasper National Parks in Alberta. Considered by many to be one of the most scenic ride in the world - I'll not argue with that.. Icefields Parkway Summer Trek - Canadian Rockies
The Icefields Parkway, in the Rocky Mountains of Canada, connects the towns of Banff and Jasper. The route is considered to be the most beautiful drive in the world by many. Stunning glacier capped mountains with steep cliff faces, and crystal clear turquoise lakes, line the route. Most hiking trails are well established and can be quite crowded, but there are wilderness routes that can be navigated by the more adventuresome outdoor enthusiast, far away from the summer flood of tourists. Peace and tranquility within such a magnificent display of natural beauty is truly rewarding.

Sunny Day along the Icefields Parkway - Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
I had returned to the Canadian Rockies after a number of years for an extended exploration of its national parks. Although I ended up with snow and overcast skies almost every day, I did have one sunny day, which was the day that I had planned to cover Jasper National Park's portion of the Icefields Parkway, heading south from the village of Jasper to Sunwapta Pass in Banff National Park.
The Icefields Parkway is 140 miles long and follows Highway 93 as it connects the village of Jasper in Jasper National Park to Lake Louise in Banff National Park to the south. It's one of the most scenic drives I've ever come across, whether sunny or snowy. Although the sunshine really brings out the color.
I made the most of the only sunny day of my visit. And now I have good reason to return to the Canadian Rockies at least once more.
These photos are in geographic order heading from north to south.
The Photos (in order)
C14A0742 - View from the bridge that crosses the Athabasca River just south of Jasper Village
C14A0768 - Athabasca Falls
C14A0797 - The Athabasca River downstream from the falls
C14A0801 - The lakes and rivers along the Icefields Parkway are fed with glacial meltwater that carries finely ground rock, called glacial flour; it is the glacial flour that gives the water this turquoise color
C14A0806 - One more view of the Athabasca River and its turquoise color
C14A0824 - Sunwapta Falls
C14A0847 - As we climb towards Sunwapta Pass, the Sunwapta River makes its way across this broad gravel plain; in the background is Endless Chain Ridge, a long mountain ridge that got its shape from Ice Age glaciers
C14A0888 - Athabasca Glacier is the last major stop heading south before reaching Banff National Park; it flows down from the Columbia Icefield for more than 3 1/2 miles, although it is receding several feet every year; when I first visited it in 1996 visitors were allowed to hike up the glacier for some distance; but as it recedes and loses volume it has developed a number of hidden crevasses, posing a danger to visitors, so this is as close as most visitors will get today
Chasing Waterfalls in Jasper National Park. Athabasca, Sunwapta, and Tangle Creek Falls
In the middle of August my friend Corey and myself took a one week holiday exploring the Rockies. We spent one day driving the Icefields Parkway chasing waterfalls. This video showcases 3 beautiful waterfalls, Ahthabasca, Sunwapta, and Tangle Creek Falls. Some of the footage in this video was taken by my friend Corey with his GoPro.
I welcome any comments you may have. If you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up. This is my 12th video. If you would like to see my other videos, Subscribe to my channel. New videos weekly. Next week I will be taking you to Big Hill Springs Provincial Park, located 42 kilometers Northwest of Calgary. CHEERS
