Mawsmai Caves are a major crowd puller that leaves tourists spellbound. These limestone caves have the distinction of being the only caves in Meghalaya that are lit enough to enable tourists to enjoy the natural formations in awe.
Though the caves are long, only a distance of 150 meters is open for tourists, while the other section is closed. The stalactites and stalagmites caves have innumerable forms, shapes and sizes inside leaving one to imagine as many life forms as possible. This magnificent natural wonder is the handiwork of years of natural abrasion and underground water.

Exploring Cave Temple of Siddhar Beta (Karnataka)
While going to Siddhar beta after Urdigere we found a huge Shiva statue and Hanuman statue on the left side of the road. Both the statues were made of single stones and were under construction. On the right side of the road there was a beautiful lake which I later checked to be Iraksandra tank. We halted there for about half an hour and took our breakfast under the shade of hanuman statue. Thereafter we started our journey for Siddhar beta again.
Ipsita (my daughter) was so curious about the trip that she made us get up at 5 o’clock in the morning. We left home (Bangalore) at 6.30 in the morning and reached Siddhar beta (100 kms) at 11 o’clock having multiple halts on the way. We first saw a medium size temple of lord Siddheshwar swamy at the foot of the hill. From there after 200 meters of distance we found an arch were the trekking began. Climbing up Siddhar beta was not risky but quite tiring as the steps and slopes continue for more than two kilometers.
Finally we reached the cave temple on the top, where the priest poured five mugs of cold water on each our heads for 10 rupees. The caves actually extend from there behind that temple upto one kilometer. We hired a guide to explore some caves. The caves were fully dark and required us to literally crawl at many places. The name of the hill is siddhar beta (saints’ hill) because the saints used the caves for meditation in the past. The journey was tiring but quite adventurous and memorable.
While coming back from Siddhar beta (3 kms) we saw a board named “Bendone Tank” where a lot of visitors were getting in. We went inside the garden. There were lots of medicinal plants and Rasi Vana (different plants for 12 different Rasis) etc. The tank inside was fully of muddy water. We could not visit all the points inside Bendone tank as we were very tired after doing a terrible trekking at Siddhar beta.
Yana Cave, Karnataka, India
Lord Shiva granted Bhasmasura the power of reducing anybody to ashes -- on whose head he could lay his hand. Armed with this blessing, Bhasmasura became uncontrollable. He dreamt of eloping with Shiva's beautiful wife, Uma, and tried to burn down Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva then came down to earth and hid himself in a cave at Yana. In order to save Shiva-Parvati from the evil design of the demon, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of a young, beautiful female dancer, Mohini, and challenged Bhasmasura to compete with her in a dance performance. During this performance, Mohini made the demon put his hand on his own head and reduce himself to ashes. Even today a white ash-like powder is scattered all around Yana, and the faithful believe that it is the remains of Bhasmasura.

A Round in Kamalashile Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple of Kundapura Tq. This famous temple of Karnataka is situated on the bank Kubja river near Siddapur of Kundapura taluk. The Kubja river joins Panchagangavali river near Kundapura where other 4 rivers also join said Panchagangavali. This Kubja river, once in a year, overflows and enters inside the temple. It is believed that Kubja enters temple for the purpose of enabling Devi Brahmi Durgaparameshwari to take a bath in the water of the river. This temple became very popular once Sri Sachidananda Chatra took charge of the temple as Managing trustee several years' back, who is responsible for all those development works being carried out since several years under his able leadership. Mr. Chatra is the owner of M/S Sri Durgamba Motors which is a famous passenger transport company of India having more 600 buses of it's group. Several other Gods like Lord Ishwara/Shiva, Ganapathi, Anjaneya, etc are being worshiped here along with main Godess. Sri Durgaparameshwari temples are held in several places, but It is told that Brahmi Durgaparameshwari is not at all held any where in India other than in Kamalashile.
